In this episode, I speak with Dr. Aman Desai, a Third Culture Kid with roots in Dubai, India, England & Canada about the ways in which is formative experiences defined his career path and approach to life. We discuss the following:
a. The impact of boarding school on development
b. The struggle with belonging when you have multiple homes
c. When to embrace culture to fit in a new environment
d. The one change that's needed in healthcare
e. Practicing medicine in the West vs developing countries
Aman was born in Dubai but moved to Canada soon after, where he spent the majority of his formative years. As a teenager, Aman went to 2 boarding schools - first after relocating with his family to India, and later continued on independently to another boarding school in England. His exposure to a diverse curriculum and culture, as well as the stark contrast in healthcare between these two countries led to his interest in medicine. Upon graduation, Aman chose to move back to India to gain hands-on experience and deepen his knowledge about healthcare in developing countries.
After a couple years in practice, Aman returned to England to pursue his Masters at the London Business School before moving on to a career in Healthcare and Life Science Strategy Consulting in New York City. In a full circle moment, Aman recently moved back to Canada and is now taking the leap into healthcare entrepreneurship.
