US equity markets advanced, staging an impressive intra-session turnaround – Dow +199-points or +0.62%, recovering from an earlier decline of almost 350-points. Boeing Co gained +3.3%. The broader S&P500 +0.52%, settling well off session lows that saw the index down as much as -0.92%. Financials (up +1.57%), Industrials (+1.56%) and Materials 1.41%) all gained over >1% to lead the primary sector gains. Communication Services and Information Technology (-0.07%) were the only sectors to close in the red. The Nasdaq +0.12% . The small capitalisation Russell 2000 index +2.29%. Value stocks (up 1.2%) again outperformed growth stocks (down -0.10%) A number of traders have partly attributed the choppy trade this week to quarter-end rebalancing and a rotation in and out of sectors that are expected to perform better when the economy stages a more pronounced recovery from the COVID-19 pandemic.
