Onissa S. Mitchell-Fisher is a Family Nurse Practitioner certified by the American Association of Nurse Practitioners and licensed by the state of Texas to provide family-centered healthcare to patients of all ages. She has a unique combination of strong nursing skills and believes that a person’s health is not just physical, but also spiritual and should not be limited to their ability to pay or their lack thereof. Onissa believes in addressing the mental, emotional, and spiritual aspects of each person to reverse physical illness bringing healing to the mind, body, and spirit. Her scope of practice encompasses diagnosis and management of common and complex health care issues, disease prevention, and health promotion across the lifespan.
Onissa is a wife, mother, author, mentor, and entrepreneur. She is the CEO/Founder of Onyx Oasis Services, PLLC, Heaven’s Peace Diagnostics and Healing Hearts CPR. Onissa is a strong advocate for her patients and has a special place in her heart for those living with special needs. She has participated in multiple fundraising and community educational activities to ensure parents have access to beneficial resources. Onissa has provided support and guidance to parents in her community assisting with navigation of the healthcare system ensuring each parent could obtain necessary durable medical equipment and available nursing/caregiver services. She has also assisted parents in obtaining and completing necessary legal documents for those transitioning into the guardianship role.
Onissa is an active member of the American Association of Nurse Practitioners and Texas Nurse Practitioners. She has also participated in community service as a member of Black Nurses Rock. Onissa has been awarded the 2022 Phenomenal Woman Award from Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, Inc., 2019 Difference Maker Award from Dominique Cares (Non-profit) and 2018 Advanced Practice Nurse of the Year Award (Black Nurses Rock). She is also a Community Educator for the Alzheimer’s Association, an Ambassador for the American Heart Association, as well as a former Ambassador for the American Sexual Health Association. She has served as a preceptor to high school students who are interested in choosing health care as a career after graduation, graduate nursing students, and Nurse Practitioner students. Her philosophy is and will always be to treat people as you want to be treated and find beauty in everything. Onissa’s positive attitude and confidence in the spirit of people has allowed her to be a light in the darkness of her patients and to those who has the privilege of knowing her.
