The Savior calls us to be witnesses of his love.
Jesus calls us to faith so that he may bless us with eternal life. He also calls us so that we may be a blessing to others as we proclaim the good news of eternal life for all.
Prayer of the Day
Almighty God, you sent your Son to proclaim your kingdom and to teach with authority. Anoint us with the power of your Spirit that we, too, may bring good news to the afflicted, bind up the brokenhearted, and proclaim liberty to the captive; through Jesus Christ, your Son, our Lord, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and forever.
Sermon Text
2 Corinthians 5:14-21
The Savior calls us to believe and follow.
Soon after his baptism, Jesus began to call people to follow him, to learn from him the way of truth, and so to gain eternal life. Jesus still calls us today in mighty and mysterious ways, so that we may gain all the blessings he has to give.
Prayer of the Day
Almighty God, you gave your one and only Son to be the light of the world. Grant that your people, illumined by your Word and sacraments, may shine with the radiance of Christ’s glory, that he may be known, worshiped, and believed to the ends of the earth; through Jesus Christ our Lord, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and forever.
Amen.

John 1:43-51
God continued to shower his grace on our congregation through its fifth pastor, Elton Huebner. He brought the congregation through the difficult time of the illness and eventual death of its pastor and continued to proclaim hope and peace and joy in Jesus! Another faithful shepherd to draw the people’s attention to the faithfulness of our God and his grace!!!

GOD"S GRACE AT GRACE
God’s Grace has been abundant during the 170 years of the existence of Grace Lutheran Church in downtown Milwaukee. He has watched over the life of this congregation and blessed it with his undeserved love! He has seen us through building projects, capital campaigns, declines in membership and growth. He’s seen us through the leadership of 12 (and counting) pastors, 4 staff ministers, and countless councilmen and elders. He’s blessed families and individuals and our church family as a whole. Thank God for the blessing that Grace Church is and rejoice that here, and in so many places like it, God’s name is glorified and the good news of salvation through Jesus is proclaimed! God is good!! Join us in celebrating “God’s Grace at Grace!”
Pastor William Sauer was Grace’s 4th Pastor. He served the congregation faithfully and kept up the tradition of long ministries at Grace. He served for 23 years and 5 months, taking the congregation through the Great Depression and World War II. William sauer was a steady hand at the wheel and a godly leader for our church. He’s yet another example of God’s Grace at Grace.

God blessed our congregation in 1906 with Pastor Carl Gausewitz. He was a well respected servant of God – serving as the President of the Minnesota Synod prior to coming to Grace and serving as the President of the Synodical Conference. He authored the first showed a loved for education by serving on a team and eventually single handedly writing a catechism book that was the standard for instruction for many decades. Carl Gausewitz was a gifted man and gift to our church and church body! He most certainly is an example of God’s Grace at Grace.

Following the founder must have been a tall task, but theological great, Theodor Jaekel was up to the job. He pastored our congregation for 37 years and 11 month. (He had the longest ministry at Grace until Pastor Huebners’ length of ministry here surpassed him in 2020.) A great man of God and a respected leader for our congregation, Theodor was as his name (and his wife Theodora’s name too) suggests, a gift from God. Enjoy listening to more of God’s Grace at Grace.

The beginning of God’s Grace at Grace in downtown Milwaukee can be traced back to the life and ministry of Pastor Johannes Muehlhaeuser. The founding pastor of our church and one of three pastors that started the church body that is now known as the Wisconsin Evangelical Lutheran Synod (WELS). Pastor Muehlhaeuser wrote the first WELS constitution and served as the church body’s first president. What a gift to so many who call Grace or our beloved WELS their home! Tune in to learn more about Pastor Johannes Muehlhaeuser and God’s Grace at Grace.

The Savior calls us to believe that his baptism impacts our baptisms.
At his baptism in the Jordan River, Jesus gained from his Father the approval and authorization to begin his ministry of bringing salvation to the world. As Jesus achieved that goal, he blesses our baptism and uses it to connect us to his life, death, and resurrection for the forgiveness of sins.
Prayer of the Day
Father in heaven, at the baptism of Jesus in the River Jordan you proclaimed him your beloved Son and anointed him with the Holy Spirit. Keep us who are baptized into Christ faithful in our calling as your children and make us heirs with him of everlasting life; through your Son, Jesus Christ our Lord, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and forever. Amen.
Sermon Text
Isaiah 49:1-6
Jesus Shared Our Humanity.
The Gospel accounts of the life of Jesus Christ offer precious little about his early years. The focus is on his ministry, message, death, and resurrection, and rightly so. That is the heart of God’s saving love for us. What God does reveal to us about his youth is an account that fits the Christmas season of the church year, the marvelous truth of his perfect life in our place as our brother.
Prayer of the Day
Almighty God, you have filled us with the new light of the Word who became flesh and lived among us. Let the light of our faith shine in all that we do; through your Son, Jesus Christ our Lord, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and forever. Amen.
