  • Sermon: The Truly Fulfilling Gift | Luke 2:22-40

Our Eyes Have Seen Your Salvation
There are two great miracles in Christmas: the one is that God took on human flesh to rescue us from Satan and sin; the second is that he shows himself to us so that we may know we have life with God forever.

Hear our prayers, Lord Jesus Christ, and come with the good news of your mighty deliverance. Drive the darkness from our hearts and fill us with your light; for you live and reign with the Father and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and forever.
    Amen.

  • Civil Government Chapter 15

The discussion on  the book “Cvil Government”  concludes - (you made it – congrats on reading to the end!!) with one final discussion on Chapter 15.   Church exists within the confines of the state, but it is not the role or responsibility of the church to control the state.  The church does not tell its members how to vote, or politicians how to lead.  Yet those citizens who are politicians and those citizens who are church members do have the responsibility to be active in the affairs of the state.  Yet they can come to their own conclusions about how best to accomplish the goal of establishing and maintaining a fair and functioning government.   The church can’t change hearts nor do we want to see it try.  Only the gospel can create faith and only faith can drive a desire to stand up for God’s truth.

We are glad to offer you this last episode in the series and would love to have you check out some past episodes or tune in to hear our next episodes of Most Certainly True Podcast.

    CIVIL GOVERNMENT

As Christians living in this world, we are citizens of two kingdoms. The first is the spiritual kingdom that we are a part of by the grace of God and the work of Jesus! The second kingdom of which we are citizens is an earthly kingdom that is ruled over by civil governments. God gives us civil governments to keep us safe and to be a blessing to all people. Governments take care of their citizens and provide safety, comfort and assistance to their people. In this podcast series, we will be looking at what God says to us about how to glorify him as citizens of earthly kingdoms.  Check out our discussion of the book “Civil Government” from the People’s Bible Teachings Series from Northwestern Publishing House. • Sermon: Advent Is a Season of Give and Take | Isaiah 61:1-3, 10-11

The Savior Is Coming: Rejoice and Confess Him
John the Baptizer clearly identified Jesus as the Savior God promised to send. Still today he encourages us look to Jesus as the only Savior who takes away our sin and guilt and solves the troubles and tragedies of life.

    Prayer of the Day
Hear our prayers, Lord Jesus Christ, and come with the good news of your mighty deliverance. Drive the darkness from our hearts and fill us with your light; for you live and reign with the Father and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and forever.

  • Civil Government Chapter 14

Church and State must have a relationship.  They cannot be totally separate.  We’ll follow the outline of the book and discuss the problems that develop when the State oversteps its role into matters of church.  This chapter discusses some current issues pertaining to government in education like Parental School Choice, Prayer in Schools, financial aid.  Get a little smattering of a Civics lesson in the form of a discussion on the First Amendment and you’ve got chapter 14 and this episode of our podcast.

  • Sermon: Not Me - Him! | Mark 1:1-8

The Savior Is Coming: Be Prepared to Receive Him
God sent John the Baptizer to prepare the people of Israel for the Savior’s coming, and his words still encourage us to be prepared. Whether we celebrate Jesus’ first coming at Christmas, his coming to us in Word and sacrament, or his final coming at the end of time, our preparation is the same: we turn away from sin and look to Jesus as Savior.

Stir up our hearts, O Lord, to prepare the way for your only Son. By his coming give us strength in our conflicts and shed light on our path through the darkness of this world; through your Son, Jesus Christ our Lord, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and forever.
    Amen.

  • Sermon: The Savior is Coming: Believe and Be Saved

The Savior Is Coming: Believe and Be Saved
With the First Sunday in Advent a new church year begins. We join our voices to those who praised Jesus on Palm Sunday: Hosanna! Save us Lord. Our annual review of Jesus’ ministry, passion, and resurrection repeats the good news that God forgives our sins in Christ.

O God, you have called your servants to ventures of faith of which we cannot see the ending, by paths as yet untrodden, through perils unknown. Give us faith to go out with good courage, not knowing where we go, but only that your hand is leading us and your love supporting us; through Jesus Christ, our Lord.
    Amen.

  • Civil Government Chapter 12

Throughout the ages, state and church have struggled to find their way.  Abuses on both sides have made things difficult and increased the struggle for either to do the jobs that God has intended.  In this discussion, Pastors Huebner and Hackmann consider how this struggle is something that has been experienced outside of Lutheranism as well.   John Clavin and his pursuit of a church lead utopia highlights another way that a loss of the doctrine of Justification as taught in Holy Scripture and then a subsequent loss and false understanding of original sin and the theology of the cross as well as confusing and crossing the roles of church and state have a grave impact on citizens and members of the church.   Press play and sit back and enjoy another chapter of Civil government and another episode of Most Certainly True.
