Needs a PDF to show missing info from book
I know very little about this subject, so I enjoyed learning about the history. BUT there are constant references to tables and examples that are in the printed version but invisible to the listener of the audio version. This begs for a PDF that shows the visuals referred to in the book that aren't available on the audio..

An absolutely wonderful book, so touching and heartbreaking
An absolutely wonderful book, so touching and heartbreaking...I have read this several times throughout my life and each time it melts my heart. Ms. Burnford has a true gift for storytelling and it always suprised me that this story was never turned into a movie like her more popular story The Incredible Journey; to me this is a far better book. I list this as one of my all time favorite books because of its heart and understanding of the relationships between dogs and humans.
    History
    Excellent! Still reading
Wonderful book, especially for dog lovers.
It was great to follow some of the events of WWII through the life of a wee dog and the people by whom he was rescued, and others who he revived by being part of their lives.
    Heartwarming
The book was shipped quickly. I don't see why this book is called a
childrens book. It is a story that will appeal to animal lovers of any age.
A touching story of a true friendship
This will tug at your heartstrings. Have a kleenex ready at the end. But the trust & love of this little dog in WWII will remain w/you a long time.

    Format: Unabridged
Length: 7 hrs and 20 mins
    Language: English
    Release date: 05-09-14
    Publisher: Evolved Publishing LLC
Ratings: 5 of 5 out of 14 votes
    Genres: Kids, Ages 8-10
    Publisher's Summary:
Can Noah Zarc keep peace across the solar system...even if it means starting a war?
As battles rage across the solar system, Noah Zarc must work to unite a rag-tag bunch of miners, farmers, and scientists who would rather just live in peace than fight a war which could set humanity back to the dark ages...if not destroy them altogether.
With only a time-traveling ship full of animals and a General from the history books (who is more comfortable riding a horse than in a spaceship) the Zarc family has to stand against the full might of a highly trained army of attack-drones, and a fleet of battleships armed with enough firepower to take out an entire planet.
Will the truth about what really happened 1,000 years in the past be enough to stop total war? Or will Noah and his friends need to find another way to bring down a ruthless dictator who will do anything to keep himself in power...even if it means destroying the very people he rules?
Evolved Publishing presents the third book in the multiple award-winning Noah Zarc series of science fiction time travel adventures - an out-of-this-world, action-packed thrill ride.
    Critic Reviews:
"Pease's strength as a storyteller lies in his ability to connect multiple time periods imaginatively, as well as Noah's excited, fast-paced narration." (Publishers Weekly)

    Great conclusion - fantastic performance!
I have thoroughly enjoyed the complete series. Each book has it's own uniqueness and yet flows nicely together as a whole. This conclusion to the series ties everything up nicely. But as most books do, there is room for future books to be written.
I don't want to give anything away, but the narrator's performance at the end made me well up with tears. I've never had that happen to me before with an audiobook. And there are certain scenes that would have been confusing had the narrator not taken great care in making the quick point of view switches so smooth and clear.
All in all, kudos to the author for a great series and kudos to the narrator for bringing it all to life!

    Title: The Abominables

Length: 5 hrs and 19 mins
    Language: English
    Release date: 03-25-14
    Publisher: Recorded Books
    Genres: Kids, Ages 8-10
    Publisher's Summary:
Renowned literary great Eva Ibbotson delivers a final novel in her classic, much-loved style. A previously unpublished work from this favorite author, The Abominables follows a family of yetis who are forced, by tourism, to leave their home in the Himalayas and make their way across Europe to a possible new home. Siblings Con and Ellen shepherd the yetis along their eventful journey, with the help of Perry, a good-natured truck driver. Through a mountain rescue in the Alps and a bullfight in Spain, the yetis at last find their way to an ancestral estate in England-only to come upon a club of voracious hunters who have set their sights on the most exotic prey of all: The Abominable Snowmen. Briskly funny and full of incident, The Abominables is vintage Ibbotson. With unforgettable characters and thoughtful messages about the environment and advocacy, it's a generous last gift to her many devoted fans.

An author who will be missed
How I love Eva Ibbotson's books! All the characters come to life as you turn the pages. I couldn't put this book down.
    Fell in love with it---classic
I really don't think there is any way to read this book and not fall completely in love with it. From the very first page my children and I were already laughing and loving the girl who becomes a surrogate yeti mum.
This story is so creative. The reasoning the author gives behind why we can't ever track down a yeti is hilarious. For the children, the favourite character here was Hubert the Yak. I can't say as I blame them any, but personally, I loved Ambrose. These are the type of characters that warm your heart and excite the minds of little ones. The world that Eva Ibbotson has described is our own planet, but somehow she makes it all seem very magical.
I loved the way this story included glimpses of history, various places across Europe and taught children values at the same time. Honestly, I finished the book before the kids and I read it together, just so I could see what happened next.
If you have been looking for a perfect chapter book for a relatively new reader, this would be a wonderful choice. The illustrations are great, but the story stole my heart.
Furry and Fun, With Real Heart
When a family of yetis, raised by an English girl, is nearly discovered by tourists in the Himalayas, they must move to safety all the way in England. But the journey through Europe isn't the only adventure in store for these yetis, who find that a hunting club is very interested in their arrival.
Eva Ibbotson passed away in 2010, but this novel is being published posthumously by her estate. The Abominables is the first book of hers that I've ever read. And I didn't just read this novel, I became totally attached to the characters.
Ultimately, that's what this book is all about - a whole slew of deliciously quirky characters. Some of my favorites:
    * Hubert - A yak obsessed with finding his mother
    * Uncle Otto - A yeti who only really cares about reading, but has read nothing but the Bible for 100 years
    * Clarence - A young yeti who hit his head while out exploring and hasn't been quite right since then
    * Lucy - The sister yeti who loves to eat, but also sleep walks
and the star of the show-
    * Ambrose the Abominable - The youngest yeti. Ambrose is the sensitive type who loves humans and is very curious.
Yes, this novel is all about fabulous characters. But here's the sneaky thing... The Abominables has a great plot, too.

This is another great mind-bender. The wild time jump details are fabulously thought out and cause some unexpected results. (Michelle Isenhoff - Children's Author)
    Members Reviews:
The series just got even better
Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?
Yes, because the story just got a lot more interesting! The first book was kind of the warm up. You know, introducing the characters, the setting, the relationships between everyone, as well as having a good story for the reader (listener).
But this part 2 is really where things get good!
What did you like best about this story?
The messing around with time travel. Not too confusing, but just enough to make you think. The clever way the characters return to a certain planet is very well done, not to mention how they keep hopping around to different countries in the past to try to accomplish their goals.
Have you listened to any of David Radtkes other performances before? How does this one compare?
I listened to book 1, and the narrator continues to do an excellent job. Still hard to imagine it's only one guy doing all the voices.
    Even better than the first!
What the author did with time travel was very creative. I'll never look at time travel the same way again. It's not confusing, just very very well done. And how he was able to take a book written in the first person and give you views that weren't from the main character's perspective was very crafty.
The author laid very nice ground work in book one, but this book is where the series really shines. A great story with great characters.
Two thumbs up and five stars all around.
    Very creative!
It's fun how the author plays around with time travel and yet still stays within the "time travel rules" he created in the first book.
I love how there is a lot of international travel, too.

Not a good story book for children
Iâve always loved different renditions of this story, but had never read the original. I bought for my kids for Christmas. This was a difficult book to read out loud for kids. The language and writing are definitely not of this age. I donât reccomend if youâre buying for children, but a nice book for a collection or something.
A story of love and want.
I love O'Henrys writing. If only I could tell a story so succinctly! The emotion of each character is laid out very simply yet clearly. That's what this story is about, emotion.
    Heartwarming
We all know the story. 2 people in love without a penny doing a selfless act for each other at Christmas time. It's a must along with the Christmas Carol by Dickens.
A good reminder what is really important
A good quick story. Sometimes we forget about what is really important in this life. This is a good reminder of that.
    Beautiful short read
You can read this in about 15 minutes. It's a beautiful story of sacrificial love. it's a free ebook! It's an excellent read.

And her life in the mountains of West Virginia seems like a fairy tale; her parents sing and dance with her, Cousin Nancy dotes on her, and she is about to get a new baby brother. But when the baby dies soon after he's born, taking Summer's mama with him, Summer's fairy-tale life turns grim. Things get even worse when her father marries a woman who brings poisons and magical mirrors into Summer's world. Stepmama puts up a pretty face, but Summer suspects she's up to no good - and is afraid she's powerless to stop her.
This Snow White tale filled with magic and intrigue during the early 20th century in Appalachia will be hard to forget.
    Members Reviews:
    Snow White in Appalachia
We begin with a description of an old photograph showing a little girl named Snow in Summer on the day of her mother's funeral. Her father is oblivious to the existence of his seven-year-old daughter, devoured by his grief. Only Cousin Nancy is aware of Summer and her needs. She holds the little girl by the hand, offering comfort.
Jane Yolen's retelling of the Snow White story is eerie and immediate. The Appalachian setting adds both simplicity and strangeness as we watch the child's life changed, first by her mother's death and her father's withdrawal and later by the menacing incursion of the woman who marries her father.
Snow in Summer is almost a horror story when it comes to the wicked stepmother. Although the child named Summer suffers when her father ignores her, at least she has Cousin Nancy, who continues to care for her, stopping by the house each day to get her ready for school and cook her meals.
Most of the chapters in Yolen's story are told by Snow in Summer herself, but some are memories recounted by Cousin Nancy and even Stepmama. When Snow (as Stepmama names her) watches her father snared in a graveyard by the woman from up the mountain, there is clearly dark magic involved. Early in the book--in Stepmama's first memory chapter--we learn that the woman was trained by a great conjurer. We also find out that Stepmama can increase her personal magic by taking someone else's years. She has plans for Snow, as well as for Snow's father and his property. But she claims she won't make Snow and her father suffer--too much. As she tells herself, "After all, I'm not a wicked woman."
The creepy little details are actually more striking than the things Stepmama tells us in her chapters. The way she has one green eye and one blue eye. The way she must have Snow's permission to enter the house, like a vampire. The terrible spell she casts on Snow's father. The glass bottles of potions.
"'They could make you very sick, Snow,' she cautioned, clinking a long red fingernail against the glass of the darkest bottle. Something almost seemed to stir in the depths, something with hands and feet and closed eyes. Something like a dead baby."
That's even before Stepmama takes Snow to the church with the snake handlers. And before Snow learns that there are worse things than snakes.
This well-crafted story gradually builds in dread. (Though the seven dwarfs--well, six plus a brother off at college--provide a bit of comic relief.) The intense, atmospheric storytelling breathes new life into a story we all think we know.
