    Amazing
While the scenery is captivating the real heart of the story is the people that we meet. In one way or another I was able to identify with every character that we met; however, I felt most connected to Josh. I was able to empathize with his sadness, loneliness, anger, and sheer determination. Still, there is no way that I will ever be able to fully appreciate his situation. I can't imagine living in a cabin that does not have running water, having to hunt for my supper and almost being killed by a bear, or constantly feeling as though my thoughts and feelings are second, at best, because it is more important to appease my sibling.

    Parental guilt
This book was disappointing to me. The mistakes of the parents are not resolved as time goes by although there
were opportunities to rectify the situations between the two sons. The father tries to allay his guilt by favoring one son
over the other in subtle ways but the boys know what is going on. The mother just leaves the family to pursue her own happiness.
    Reading Out of the Wilderness
High quality throughout. I would recommend Deb Vanasse's Out of the Wilderness to young men and women and to anyone interested in Alaska. Nature is a powerful presence in this story. The reading is swift and the observations persuasive and satisfying.
    I expected more
I expected more. The story lacked any real depth, and although parts of it were interesting, I kept waiting to be drawn in. That never really happened - and then it ended.
    my brothers keeper
Quite an interesting read.A fathers guilt about the mistakes he made when his eldest son was growing up didn't make him much wiser with his second son.I thought the story ended prematurely there seemed to be more to explore ,left me feeling dissatisfied

Pibbin can't help wondering: Is he too small to be brave?
    Members Reviews:
A most delightful story for children of all ages.
What did you love best about Pibbin the Small?
What did you like about this audiobook?
I really enjoyed the way that the narrator had a different voice for each character and this brought each little animal to life in the story.
What other book might you compare Pibbin the Small to and why?
How has the book increased your interest in the subject matter?
Even though I thoroughly enjoyed this book, I am not going to be doing a study of frogs. However, I will be reading all the other Pibbin books in the series even though I am several decades past the age of a young child.
What does Jon Repp bring to the story that you wouldnt experience if you just read the book?
Does the author present information in a way that is interesting and insightful, and if so, how does he achieve this?
Gloria Repp does an excellent job in presenting a story, be it for a child or an adult. I personally am not all that fond of frogs, but I found the story quite interesting, delightful, and even could see why some people do like frogs. Gloria skillfully develops the character of each little frog or other animal and one almost forgets she is reading about animals and not people. Gloria gives the little animals the same traits that are to be found in caring, loving, and helpful people. Pibbin was small and afraid to make the long journey to get help for the injured turtle but he was willing to make the trip because he wanted to help his friend. The story was made even better with the addition of the colorful drawings that were scattered throughout the book. I highly recommend this audiobook for any family has has young children. I had a print copy and followed along and for me it made the story even better. No illustrations in an audio book.
If you were to make a film of this book, what would the tag line be?
What did you find wrong about the narrator's performance?
There was absolutely nothing wrong with the narrator's performance. Jon Repp did an excellent job in reading the book with a different voice for each character. I can see a child's eyes lighting up and a smile on his/her face when listening to this book being read by Jon.
    Any additional comments?
I checked out the questions last night and then spent time writing my answers in Word so that I could check my spelling and grammar. Tonight when I went to post my answers, the questions had been changed. I am not going to do over so I am putting original question and my answer in each box.
Do you have any additional comments?
In my opinion, the question should be asking what the listener liked about the narrator's performance instead of asking what was wrong. Very negative way to approach a review.
Will PIbbin find the courage to help Sheera?
If you could sum up Pibbin the Small in three words, what would they be?
    Never too small!
Who was your favorite character and why?
Pibbin is definitely the strongest character in this story and my favorite.

    The rock jockeys
Great book. During the summer my 10 year old son and I started listening to this book, which is about an hour long. We got to out destination in about a half hour. We then spent the next half hour in the parking lot listening the end of the book. We loved it. Great suspense, tied in with good historical fiction. Get rid of the tv's in your car and expose your kids to audiobooks. They'll become better readers and students in the process. I also recommend danger on midnight river, skydive, and captive.

    Ok
I thought it was kind of interesting that a story about a male person from Ohio was narrated buy a woman from England. Did not lend to realism. The story was OK I wouldve liked to of seen it in the hands of a different writer. There was some good message however. Sound editing was a bit under par, with Personalator. Thank you for allowing me to state this review

At least thats how it feels to Billy March. Hes been grounded for 63% of the past month. The thing is, every time Billy almost gets his parents trust back, his mind wanders off, and he causes another disaster! Like the time he and his best friend Keenan decided to play droid war in a parking lot and ended up launching a shopping cart into a car
Now Mom and Dad are threatening to send Billy to a psychologist. They may even make him take brain drugs! But deep down, Billy really worries that Dad wishes he had a different son. Hell never be as perfect as his two sisters. Maybe he doesnt belong in this family at all.
But maybe, just maybe, talking to a shrink wont be as terrible as Billy thinks. Even if the doctors last name sounds eerily like the word grave

    Hit a triple!
Our 10 year old son loves reading and brought his new book on the trip to visit grandparents on the other side of the country. He finished the book in just over 24 hours, then handed it off to grandma, and then his mother who all read it before the week long trip was over. Fun read.
    Great book!
Loved this book! I read it with my 8-year old son and we both enjoyed the Billy character with his wild imagination and relatable childhood experiences. I have gifted this book to a couple 3rd Grade boys and all the parents feedback was the same.
This is book is the best of its kind, by leaps and bounds.
By far the best book of its kind. My son has read it a few times in a row. I can't wait to read more of Guerra's work! Awesome character development and a really great story. We laughed. We cried. We loved every single page. The only thing missing is a sequel.
Good book I recommend you read it.I think it is a five star book.
I enjoyed reading it because it is funny. My favorite character is Billy the kid and Keenan. My favorite part is when Billy the kid stuffed a jelly doughnut right above the check and said George Washington is bleeding.
I liked it but too short
    From Lauren, age 10:
It was funny and I liked the cartoon nature of the pictures. Billy gets in trouble a lot. I had a hard time putting the book down. I just wished it was longer.

    Release date: 12-02-13
    Publisher: Naxos AudioBooks
    Genres: Kids, Ages 8-10
    Publisher's Summary:
This is a story from the Famous People in History collection.
Here are the stories of nine people whose energy, imagination, courage, and determination changed the world. From Christopher Columbus who set off into unknown seas in a small ship in the 15th century, to a young girl, Anne Frank, caught in the turmoil of the 20th, who wrote a remarkable diary while in hiding in Amsterdam during the Second World War. Their personalities and their achievements make them heroes and heroines for our time also. This program features short biographies of Christopher Columbus, Elizabeth I, William Shakespeare, Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, Lord Nelson, Charles Darwin, Florence Nightingale, Abraham Lincoln, and Anne Frank.
    Editorial Reviews:
This selection from Nicolas Soames Famous People in History collection concisely but comprehensively outlines the most important events, adventures, and discoveries in the life of Charles Darwin, the British naturalist remembered today as the father of modern evolutionary theory. Soames reviews Darwins life and work, employing crisp, stark descriptions of the great mans travels and deductive processes, explaining how he formulated his most remarkable and well-known theories as well as reflecting on his enduring scientific legacy.
Voice actor Trevor Nichols employs precise enunciation and pacing in his performance of this educational biography, while simultaneously injecting this historical overview with a sense of excitement and adventure.

    Kids need heroes...
I entertain my minivan-bound children with books on tape/CD. The best are the Harry Potter series. There are many other good ones. And this is a good non-fiction title for children.
Kids need heroes, and this tape provides my 5 and 7 year old boys with some impressive ones. The heroes come from the worlds of politics, science, literature, religion... This tape is one of my 7 year old son's favorites. It has a very positive message for him. He gets ideas of what he could be.
Volume 2 (the one I have) tells the stories of some historical figures, emphasizing all the positive and heroic qualities of each: Alexander the Great, Joan of Arc, Leonardo Da Vinci, Isaac Newton, Ludwig van Beethoven, Louis Pasteur, Marie Curie, Mahatma Gandhi, and George Washington.
As an adult accustomed to having his heroes routinely discredited, I find these idealized portraits naive, but kind of refreshing. If you have kids you know that they have a purpose: to introduce you to the world again, and show you its wonder. These portraits of heroes are simplified and abstracted in a way that highlights their abilities. No jaded cynicism here. These scientists, thinkers, statesmen, musicians, were all leaders. My young leader could do worse than to select a role model from one of these larger than life heroes.
    Two other notes.
    1. The tapes are abridged, while the CDs are not. Buy the CD.
    2. Amazon has one description for both volume 1 and 2. Misleading. They contain different people.
Vol 1 - Queen Elizabeth I, Abraham Lincoln, Christopher Columbus, Horatio Nelson, William Shakespeare, Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart
Vol 2 - Alexander the Great, Joan of Arc, Leonardo Da Vinci, Isaac Newton, Ludwig van Beethoven, Louis Pasteur, Marie Curie, Mahatma Gandhi, George Washington (This is the one I am reviewing)
Great cds for kids and adults!
Got 3 of the series for when my 7 and 10 year old grandkids would be spending a week with me.

    Publisher's Summary:
This is a story from the Famous People in History II collection.
Here are the life stories of nine famous people who have left their mark upon the world. There are men of action such as Alexander the Great and George Washington, and a woman, Joan of Arc, who inspired a nation. There are scientists whose voyages of discovery took place in laboratories: Isaac Newton, Louis Pasteur, and Marie Curie. Imagination is the fuel of the artist. The paintings of Leonardo da Vinci and the symphonies of Ludwig van Beethoven, though centuries old, still affect us today. And finally, there is the story of Mohandas Karamchand Gandhi, who gained freedom for his country while at the same time promoting the idea of peace and non-violence. These men and women were important in their time and, even in our computer age, show what individuals with ideals and energy can achieve.
    Editorial Reviews:
Nicolas Soames concise yet highly informative overview of the original "Renaissance Man", written in simple, easy-to-understand prose aimed at the middle-school crowd, touches on the great Italian thinkers formative years and personal life as well as the myriad contributions he made to the fields of mathematics, astronomy, visual art, and anatomy, among many others.
As evidenced by her effortless ability to slip into character, such as an Italian citizen who observes Da Vincis working on The Last Supper, Laura Brattan turns in a loose, sprightly performance that will engage young listeners throughout.

    GREAT!!!
I thought it was great!!! One of the best books ever! It's so real, like it really happened. I really liked it, but I bought it because of a preview in The Dragon of the Dolomites, and then this has a preview for The Two Giants...
    Sad but exciting
I am crying right now It was a great book and I wish that there was a girl like Kenna in my life but overall a great book
One of the best books I have ever read!!
Super descriptive, well thought out and has an interesting plot . This is a good book for fantasy and fans of books that have different dimensions.
    Fun book
My brother and I are really enjoying this book. He's 8 and it's too complicated for him to read to himself, but some more advanced 9 year olds certainly could. It follows an unsocial young teen whose sister is kidnapped by creatures from another world. Along the way he discovers the ability to bring his drawings to life. Great characters, the book has very dark, and some very funny moments. Would really reccomend for young fantasy readers/ listeners!
    The next 'Harry Potter'
'Drawing a Dark Way' is a gripping tale of friendship and bravery. Carter 'draws' us into this fantasy adventure and you simply cannot put it down. The description is mind blowing. The storyline is brilliant and there is not one bad or boring spot in it. This is the next Harry Potter. Don't hold back... buy this book!!!

    an interview and a review
Matt is the soccer star, and his sister Bridie his manager. Matt doesn't let a busted leg or bullies interfere in his game, same way that Bridie doesn't let her asthma stop her from looking out for her big brother. This family knows to stick together, after a tragedy pulled them tight and has their mum always fretting, and Uncle Cliff keeping a watchful eye on things.
Bridie and Matt are due some good luck in their lives ... but when it comes their way and dreams come true, both are surprised at the many and varied ways that things aren't made better.
`Extra Time' is the new novel from superb Australian children's author, Morris Gleitzman.
I was lucky enough to have a phone interview with Mr Gleitzman recently, for an upcoming Kill Your Darlings blog. And in-between asking him some very serious questions about a very important topic, I was also able to fan-girl and throw in some Qs about `Extra Time' and his next book ... so this is a review/interview of sorts.
There's a moment in `Extra Time' when Bridie dreams of her and Matt being suffocated by safety; bubble wrap covers her knees, and Matt is drowning in cotton wool. It's a prescient dream for the many ways that Matt and Bridie have been made overly cautious in their lives, after a family tragedy ... but also revealing of Morris Gleitzman as a successful children's author, who often writes the sort of tough and admirably daring characters that kids love, and parents would prefer came bubble-wrapped.
    `Extra Time' is about soccer and realizing dreams are not always as easy you'd imagine them to be. At the back of the book, Gleitzman acknowledges the Premier League families for sharing their experience and friendship. I asked him about their involvement as part of his research, and discovered the level of detail that went into writing `Extra Time';
    ****************************************************
"I was over in the UK last year, doing some research for the book. And though it's not easy - because it's quite a closed and self-protected world - I finally was able to meet three families who have boys training in different Premier League clubs in their academy system. And they weren't able to go on the record with me . . . because they had a sense from our conversation that I was interested in some of the aspects of this whole process that maybe the official football authorities wouldn't necessarily want to have broadcast. And you can probably pick up from the book what some of those things are.
So; it formed the core of my research because I got a lot of information, and not only did they take me along with their family to training matches, but I also had a sense of how aspects affected other areas.
