A sequel that's even better than its predecessor.

'Das Jesus-Video' was published in 1998, and is one of my favourite books, one that I've read at least 4 times over the years. 'Der Jesus-Deal' is the sequel to it.

I gave 'das Jesus-Video' 5 stars. I'm going to have to reconsider, because 'der Jesus-Video' is much, much better, and manages to complement and complete the much earlier book (I wonder if the author had an idea at the time how a sequel would appear?)

Briefly, and without giving away too many details, in 'das Jesus-Video' during an achaelogical dig in an Israeli cemetery from the first century, in a grave is discovered the skeleton of a man with a mouthful of decayed teeth, including some with professionally filled cavities, and an old expertly treated fractured tibia. Also present is a users' manual for a Sony video camera.

Very quickly it's decided that the skeleton must belong to a time traveler. And that the only reason why a time traveler would want to visit Palestine of the first century would be to film Jesus. And that there's the strong possibility that the camera and recording would be hidden somewhere in Israel, waiting to be found.

Eventually, the camera (and video) are discovered. And destroyed owing to the machinations of an evil Catholic prelate. And a separate video, which had independently been discovered, is also stolen and its authenticity impaired apparently by actions of the Vatican.

At which point the sequel begins. And to my surprise, even more evil characters than the evil Catholic prelate are introduced, who eventually turn out to be responsible for the time travel of 'Das Jesus-Video'.

An excellent book. One I think I'll be rereading. Pity 'Das Jesus-Video' hasn't been translated into English yet. I hope a publisher will get around to commissioning a translation of both books so that monolingual English readers can enjoy both books.

I particularly enjoyed the Paluxy River dinosaur/human footprint joke at the end... As a method of tying up the loose ends.

Not bad, but not as great as his other books

Eschbach wrote many books that I loved, the story here is a little bit boring in times and has too many christian "bla bla" around it. Just my personal feeling, give it a try, it is for sure worth the money and maybe your taste is different than mine.

Where the Dark Streets Go

Our book club's book for September was Where the Dark Streets Go, by Dorothy Salisbury Davis. We chose this book because there has been a book making the rounds among us, Troubled Daughters, Twisted Wives, which is an anthology of short stories by women writers of suspense. Several of us liked the Davis story included in it, so we found our way to Where the Dark Streets Go. (It is tough to find online, but many of our libraries had a copy.)

It is late 1960s New York City in a rough neighborhood. A local priest, Joseph McMahon, is called to the side of a dying man who has been stabbed. The priest forges a bond in a brief time with the victim, and he finds himself being drawn into the investigation.

We had an excellent discussion about this book. I think many of us were surprised by how hard-boiled and frank it is. There are mature discussions and treatments of sexuality, competition and bad feelings among competing ethnic groups in the neighborhood, wealth and income disparity, and even the priest's crisis of faith as he finds himself falling in love with the murdered man's ex-girlfriend.

And yet, at the end of the day, this was not a book that we particularly enjoyed. Most of us agreed that we didn't care for it, and we spent a lot of time dissecting the reasons. The plot is really rather basic and isn't carried along by any detective or sleuthing work. Rather, information just drops into the characters' laps when the author is ready to reveal it. There's no sense of urgency about the story, no real surprises, nothing out of the ordinary.

The bigger problem, we thought, was the writing. It is rather muddy while taking itself very seriously. Equally problematic: The people in this book aren't people; they are characters who declaim, represent, and symbolize. Many of them speak as if they are in a book by Ayn Rand (i.e., they don't converse so much as pontificate and try to impress with their depth). For this reason, it was hard to really care about any of them.

Great Read!!!

I loved this story!!! This book is well written. It had me on the edge of my seat most of the time. I absolutely LOVED your narrator too. I really liked the different voice for when Lady Ace was talking to herself in her head (the voice). This is definitely one book where the narrator improved the story!

The author, Sandra Farris did a fabulous job keeping my attention! This is my second book read by Ms Farris and I love her style! Her books are SO GOOD! The narrator, Lia Frederick is an awesome narrator! She delivered this story with so many voices and accents and emotions. I could even feel Lady Ace's fear! Kudos to you both! If I could give you 10 stars, I would!!!

A great story and good audiobook

Lady Ace is an audiobook narrated by Lia Fredrick and written by Sandra Farris. Lady Ace is the nick name given to the main character Kasey O'Brian. After her fathers plane crashed into a Colorado Mountain Side she was left with running the family airplane business. When her plan looses power on final approach she lands the plane with her passengers in one piece.

Upon further inspection she finds her oil line was cut and begins to question what is going on. Is someone trying to kill her and if so did they succeed in killing her father also, or was it her passenger they were after. Who can she trust on this Oregon Ranch she flew too and can she keep her business and herself Alive?

Lia Fredrick does an excellent job narrating this audiobook. The story is short, only six hours, and very intriguing. A great listen for a rainy day.

The story has a little bt of romance and a mystery thriller. I tried guessing who the guilty party was. A little clue made me guess his identity. The short story at the end was a bonus.

Und wieder ein Buch bei amazom, von dem bzw. über das ich sagen muss

- wie GUT, dass ich's im Rahmen von Amazon Prime ausgeliehen habe, da mir jeder Cent leid tun würde ...

- kann JEDER ALLES bei Amazon veröffentlichen? ....Traurig!!

- u.U. liegt es an der Übersetzung, aber das Buch ist sehr schlecht geschrieben und damit ist das Lesen eine Quälerei! Keine Spannung ... kranke Andeutungen, aus denen vmtl. Spannung erzeugt werden soll ...

Ich jedenfalls kann es absolut nicht empfehlen und habe es nach nicht mal der Hälfte weggelegt und von meinem Kindle gelöscht!
