Hard to Follow, Dry, Rather Uninteresting

I would not recommend this book to anyone (except maybe to the neighbor's dog, to chew on). While the story idea seems good on paper and I was looking forward to learning a little bit about Mormonism, this book falls spectacularly flat.

The main problem is that this book refers too often to events that happened in other books in the series. The author does not explain events and characters that must have happened in previous books and the reader is left confused as to what is going on.

As for the Mormonism, it is not explained well at all in the book. I didn't really learn a thing, except Mormons can't drink caffiene. The religion did come up in the story, but nothing was explained. The reader is expected to know it all already.

Also, the book is dry and uninteresting. I had to force myself to finish it as it did not get better with time. The characters kept finding new leads to their mysteries, but it was not explained how they found these people. It seems as if major details were left out (for example, why they decided to dig where they did) and other parts were not explained at all. I can think of many other things you could better waste your time on.

Part 7 of 10

Different storylines are merging and wrapping up as characters race towards their individual fates. Questions are being answered but there is still plenty to explore

This is the seventh part of ten. In other words, it isn't a full story. There is a lot that has already happened and plenty left to go. You need to know that stuff that happened earlier to understand what is happening here, You will need to read parts 8 to 10 to finish the story. There is strong language and violence throughout all of the parts so far. Those are you warnings. If you just can't stand serials though, the book is going to be put out as two omnibus editions. Omnibus one contains parts one through five and is already out. Omnibus two with parts two through ten will be released after all the parts have been released.

If you got past the warnings, then you will probably not have a problem with this ongoing story. Personally, I enjoy the smaller segments. It helps to break up the reading of a long story. It is like watching a TV series. Sometimes, I just don't have the time to watch an entire season in one sitting. Also, it gives me something to look forward to reading. The other good thing about serialized novels is that you can usually try them fairly cheaply and see if you like them before getting too invested.

This story is full of action, great characters, and supernatural suspense. It is well worth following.

A battle for Normans soul

Norman is impressionable and kind of a loner. Not popular by any stretch of the imagination. Zach appears to have it all fed to him with a silver spoon. Unfortunately for Norman, when the two connect it starts to get dangerous. Zach wants to turn Norman into a regular Norman Bates. What ensues is a battle for Normans soul.

The ending was a bit abrupt without much closure, but nonetheless it was still a satisfying read (listen) although admittedly the narration took some getting used to and worked for some characters better than others.
