penal substitution as good news
Yes, there are many who need to know that God loves and forgives them. But I wonder how many people will read a book, despite its being nice and glossy, which is simply pushed through their door.
And it would appear that God doesnât loveâ practicing gaysâ according to the website of the group (Christian Missionary Fellowship International) he founded.
The author is a professor of science, not theology. He considered Jesus Christ the Lord of Science (âFor by Him all things were created...â â Colossians 1:16), and scientific research an act of obedience to Godâs command to âsubdue the earthâ (Genesis 1:28).
In more than 40 years of Christian ministry, Fomum travelled extensively, preaching the Gospel, planting churches and training spiritual leaders. He made more than 700 missionary journeys within Cameroon, which ranged from one day to three weeks in duration and 500 missionary journeys to more than 70 different nations in all the six continents. These ranged from two days to six weeks in duration.
This book asserts that Godâs original purpose for creating man women?) for fellowship with Him, though not that God needed to do so. We then the story of manâs fall into sin, and I think he takes the Adam and Eve eating the apple literally. He discusses the consequences of sin, now and in eternity. Godâs unparalleled love is manifested in the sacrificial death of Christ on the cross for the rescue of sinful man. His atonement model is that of penal substitutionary atonement. The sinnerâs response to Godâs love through repentance towards God and faith in the Lord Jesus Christ opens the way to a victorious new life. This is achieved by the so-called sinnerâs prayer, for which there is no precedent in scripture. There is precedent for baptism but the author denies its efficacy.
He assumes that the woman caught in the act of adultery was Mary Magdalene.
He denigrates the Student Christian Movement in favour of the Christian Union.
Each chapter concludes with some low-level, mostly comprehension, questions â the sort that OFSTED regards as demeaning to children (let alone adults).
At the end, weâre told to: Read this book and experience in a new way the love of God for you. Get your friend, your partner, your parents, your colleagues, your neighbours to discover this book, and they will be blessed through it.
God is good =)
God is good! There is forgiveness in Christ! But you must repent.
