Publisher's Summary:

The Montgomery Ink series continues with a forbidden love between three friends and a past that they can't escape.

Jake Gallagher knew from the moment he saw Maya that she was the one for him - it had the same breath-taking intensity as when he'd first set eyes on Border. Only life never turns out the way one plans, and now he's falling for someone else, or at least he thinks he is.

Maya Montgomery never should have looked past the friendship she already had. Now that she has, she can't stop thinking about Jake and what he means to her. When a mysterious stranger from Jake's past shows up at their door, she's forced to admit that if she doesn't take the risk of a lifetime, she'll regret it for the rest of her days.

Border Gentry walked away without a second glance once because of what could happen if he let go, but now he's back and ready to see what he's missed. He's been on the road a long time and has seen things no man should ever see, yet once he rediscovers the broody Jake and meets the inked and fierce Maya, they're like a balm to his soul and he realizes what path his future should take.

It will take more than sizzling chemistry and a heat that never dies for the three of them to overcome their pasts. And when someone from the outside wants to stand in their way, it's not only their hearts on the line but also their lives.

Tommy & Andi's story...another hot one!

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

That's a yes and a no question for me. If they can get past the nasal voice of Lauren, then yes.

Who was your favorite character and why?

Andi - just because I would want to be her.

Would you listen to another book narrated by Lauren Sweet and Paul Brion ?

I loved Paul Brion's narration - even the girls' voices, so yes, I would listen to another book narrated by Paul Brion. I do not feel the same about Lauren Sweet - her voice was just too nasally for my taste. I found myself cringing when she came on.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

Yes, I would have loved to listen in one sitting. But life made that impossible.

Any additional comments?

This is another great series from Tess Oliver - love all her books!

second in the series and just keeps getting better

loved it just as much as book one. Tess Oliver is so talented with her words and descriptions.

Yes a bad boy can be sweet!!!

Really enjoyed this audio book... it reminded me of the Outsiders with two sides of the track!!! Huck or Tommy has loved his best friends twin sister since forever and this is their story!!!! Read the Synopsis and then listen to the book!!!!

Fab story!!!!

Publisher's Summary:

I don't believe in destiny.

In fate.

Or in soul mates.

But I believe in Hawke.

My life has never been whole since my parents left forever. I have my brother, someone I can barely tolerate most of the time, and I have my best friend, Marie.

And I have myself.

But when Hawke walks into my life, there's an immediate connection. Our eyes lock and an unspoken conversation is exchanged. For the first time in my life, I actually feel something.

But he doesn't.

He keeps me at arm's length and pretends there's nothing between us when there clearly is. I'm not the kind of girl to wait around for any guy, so I don't.

But that doesn't mean he isn't in the back of my mind.

Our paths cross again in a way neither one of us expect and it changes everything. Was it destiny that made it happen? Was it fate?

Or was it something else?

editing fail

The editing on the audible portion was aweful! many sentences were repeated, book 2 is even worse.

Did they even listen to the final cut?

There is a lot of double sentences like they didn't even edit it. Breaks in dialogue that makes you wonder if they are turning the page.

Male character's voice isn't masculine enough for me to fit the description of the male lead.

The story line itself is good but wish I would have read it instead of listening!

Huge cliffhanger!

I wasn't happy to find out that this book had a big cliffhanger, but the story was interesting enough to listen to. The narration was well done.

Recording is horrible

Recording quality is horrible. At points it repeats it self. Reader is hard to listen to.

Really Sweet Listen

Any additional comments?

This was a good book sweet but I would liked to have more hot sex. Love and Heartbreak but is the there redemption?

But then he meets a mysterious, handsome man with amnesia, and Joe can't deny something sweet is in the works. He isn't one to take risks, not with his heart and certainly not with his life, but the more time he spends with the man he knows as Tom, the closer he is to losing both.

Members Reviews:

Wonderful!

I read this as an ebook first and I'm so glad I bought the audiobook version! The narration of it was great and I thoroughly enjoyed listening to the story, I would highly recommend this one :)

Funny, sweet, solid narration

When I read these Dreamspun Desires I have to remember that its a little bit like going in the way back machine (anyone remember that reference?) and to a time when readers were a bit less concerned with probability or realism or well you get the idea.

So, we set suspend our disbelief and we embrace our love for ooey gooey love stories and viola! you have a Dreamspun Desire book!

In this case, there is a super sweet baker named Joe who has a little pie shop in Manhattan (first suspension of disbelief) where he lives and works with some crazy folks and sells a lot of pies but hes very lonely. Hes been hurt in the past and doesnt ever leave his apartment for fun (2nd suspension).

One day he hears a scuffle in the garden in the back and finds an injured man who tells him No police, no hospital so he takes him upstairs to his apartment so he can heal. (3rd suspension)

Once he awakens, the mystery man (later called Tom) cant remember his name or job but he has a bunch of other memories like movies, sexual preferences, the fact that hes not involved in a relationship.

Over time the two grow close, some other crazy stuff happens with the folks who are after Tom and another amazing co-incidence occurs (4th suspension).

Now, dont think I didnt like this story, because I did but I really had to remember that it wasnt supposed to be real. It was fun, cute, lovey dovey (which I adore) and sweet.

If youre in the mood for real, keep looking, but if you want a light-hearted escape from reality with fun characters and sweet moments this is the book for you!

Audio

John Solo is a frequent choice for this genre and he definitely knows his way around a story. He is good at pacing, emotion and smexy times. I like his deep voice and most of the time, I find him easy to listen to. For the most part this was a good narration, my only issue was Bea she sounded more like a wizened sailor than an older lady friend. All in all this is a good way to experience this story.

Members Reviews:

Not her best

I usually love her books but this one could not keep me engaged. I felt like there was always a new character being introduced and not enough depth given to the main ones. I just couldn't get into it. Still a fan but this one just wasn't my favorite.

Only all right

Two many characters. Very hard to follow. Scene transitions so quick it takes you a minute to realize it's now the next day they're talking about. It was a hard book to get through.

A Great Book with a Fabulous Narrator!

Not a typical romance but very much a romantic book. The main characters are so well developed I felt like they were my friends by the end. They were all really likeable.

I suppose this book would appeal mainly to women, but if you have a credit you don't know how to spend, get this book! I would not have discovered it if I didn't like Heather Wilde so much I was looking for books she performed. Now I will look for more by Jill Mansell.

Stuck it through waiting for greatness.....

What would have made The One You Really Want better?

The story never really got going. It was always just a little dull and then would miss the mark when you think it's going to make a turn

Would you ever listen to anything by Jill Mansell again?

Probably not.

Would you be willing to try another one of Heather Wildss performances?

It was not my favorite narrator but I won't avoid her.

What character would you cut from The One You Really Want?

Joseph, and the roadie

I really wanted to like this book...

The story sounded good, but the narrator was just dreadful. I increased the reading speed because at normal speed she was agonizingly slow. She did well with the various accents required. Her voice was slow and monotone. I couldn't finish the audiobook, but would consider reading it the old fashioned way.

Loving the Men in this Series!

After book one in this series which I didn't love, I had not planned to continue but a friend told me that books 2 & 3 were better so I decided to give it another shot. I did like this book better and am hoping 3 is even better. I loved Ambrose, he was a good guy with good intentions and a guarded heart. I loved that even though he didn't want anything serious, once he realized his feelings he went for it instead of running (at least not for long) . Everly was ehh to me, I was getting tired of her pretending to be bratty and so proud of it. The sex was REALLY hot in this book. The narration was pretty good too.

good follow up

am really enjoying this series . And patiently waiting and looking forward to Constantine"s story.

hot and steamy

overall the book was pretty great. narrator did a good job wasn't the best wasn't the worst but overall did pretty well the only thing I did not like about the story which was she didn't like rich people and I felt like she was more whining and complaining or maybe both and it was just annoying. spoiler... when she finally finds out that he's rich she is in denial at least to me however the book is basically saying it has to do with a lie. I would still get another book by this author.

Good, not great, but very good

Would you listen to Playing Hard to Master again? Why?

Probably not but I don't regret listening to it the first time. I feel like BDSM books should come with possible trigger warnings. Because I have PTSD but I still enjoy BDSM romance novels. But I feel like books should have a list of certain topics it contains. I know it seems silly. But I can't listen to or read books if the character has a certain name. But that one is normally easy to check for before I get the book. I love BDSM and I did just fine with the first two books in the series. It was the fact that this time the character looked younger than her age and was a virgin, unlike the other women in the books prior to this one. It wasn't a bad book by any means. I just cannot safely re-listen to it.

Who was your favorite character and why?

Aside from the needed trigger warning. I did love the main characters.

YAYE.. A GREAT FINALE - BUT SOB.. COZ IT'S ALL OVER

Katy Evans has finally finished her Real series and I'm so sad about that.... but happy too because it's been the perfect series from book 1 til this, the end to it all - but boy have they all been worth the time, the credits, the sleepless nights and the emotional roller coasters that each one has put me on.

Reese has come to live with her Cousin Brooke and Remy to look after their little boy while Remy 'Riptide' is training and fighting - but she has also come to get fit, lose extra pounds and find herself. But what she finds along the way is Maverick - a solitary handsome figure obviously alone and in desperate need of her help so Reese takes very slow steps to aid him. They are both characters of few words but their heated glances say everything and their first words to each other, when they do eventually speak, are tentative, touching, shy, wary and heartfelt and, once in each others arms, they click, find their soul-mate and peace. However, first there's a slow, and oh so sweet, build-up that finally blossoms into a beautiful touching romance where all they want or need is each other.... and of course the chance to compete in, and then win, the MMA Title. But Maverick has a bitter legacy to overcome too which brings with it resentment, animosity and angst as he tries to prove, over and over again, that he is not his Father's son.

Oh, this listen was so addictive because both Reese and Maverick were such nice characters and Maverick proved to everyone that he deserved to fight - he was true to himself and true to Reese who, along with me, fell hard for this vulnerable, loving, kind and deep thinking man. And Maverick was also a good friend to his washed-up drunk Trainer who had hit the 'self destruct' button. Reese and Maverick were both crazy for one another and desperately wanted to be together and that came across so well that I couldn't help but be drawn into their plight and mesmerized by its wonderful outcome.
