    Publisher's Summary:
A minute can make all the difference....
Pieter Posthumus is enjoying a quiet drink in his favourite bar when the screaming starts. A minute later the owner of the guesthouse next door rushes in: one of her tenants has been murdered.
Marloes, the guesthouse owner, is an odd but kind soul. Posthumus cannot believe it when she is arrested - for both her tenant Zig's murder and another death years before. He knows there are questions unanswered: what is the link between the two cases? Why are people so keen to think Marloes is guilty? And why did Zig paint just one picture every year - a copy of a Dutch master, but with one peculiar twist?
As his investigation progresses, he comes to see that a few minutes can mean all the difference in the world: between saving a life and taking one, between innocence and guilt. And that sometimes asking questions leads to a truth that's hard to bear.

I love characters with great names and Pieter Posthumus fits the bill nicely. So does the victim he comes across within the first few pages of this fantastically written novel.
Zig Zagorodnii has been killed in his room at Marloes guest house and the blood is everywhere. There is a lot of blood. Zig used to be a rent boy. is this why he was killed? He also paints beautiful copies of old masterpieces.
Set in Amsterdam, Lives Lost is descriptive, the âwindow-girlsâ, the food even the bicycle rides transport you.
Although this book didnât quite grab me from the beginning, I was interested in the plot. Not all books have to be fast and furious and Lives Lost slowly builds to an interesting read.
There are shocks and twists. Britta Bolts novel is a very âdown to earthâ read. There is no beauty in it. It is about people who are down and low and itâs about friendships. The sort that matter.
    I thoroughly enjoyed it

This week is going to turn Nina's life upside-down.
Returning home from work, she discovers her door ajar, signs of a struggle, and her pregnant wife missing.
The kidnappers call. They issue a ransom, and she gives in to their demands, following their instructions to the letter. But it becomes increasingly clear that this kidnapping isn't about the money, isn't about her or her partner.
It's about the impending due date.

This book literally stopped me in my tracks!
Due Date quite literally stopped me in my tracks.
I was in the supermarket, listening to the heart-stopping climax when I realised I had become frozen to the spot, so engrossed in the story that Id forgotten to keep shopping.
A lot is packed into this short story yet it doesnt feel rushed, building gradually to the horrific finale that adds a final dramatic twist. The terror begins immediately when first person narrator Nina returns home to find the house open and her pregnant wife, Lisa, kidnapped. There is the usual demand for money and for no police involvement, leaving Nina fearful for the lives of both her partner and her unborn child.
As Nina scrambles to find the money by the impossible deadline, Lisa discovers the identity of her kidnappers and the ante is upped even further.
Elaina Stevenson reads beautifully, filling the story with all the desperation, love and loathing of each character. More importantly, she also presents the inner strength of the two heroines. She plays with pace and tone to match the scene, strengthening each moment appropriately.
Isserow is a marvellous writer who not only made me forget where I was, but he manages to celebrate love within a nightmare situation. Most striking however, is his normalisation of the central relationship, which could be played out by any couple of any persuasion. Their sexuality is neither here nor there and, after the initial surprise, it becomes irrelevant. Bravo!
Theres so few writers and readers out there who make me want to devour more of their works. Audible lists Due Date as Stevensons only foray into audiobook narration but Isserow has a number of short stories to his name on Audible, most which he narrates himself. If Due Date is anything to go by, his other titles will be worth exploring.

gotta wait to book two? :( hate that.
I would of given this 5 stars, but i hate when there is a book two to finds out what happens, and you don't know it before you start reading the book. Why can't they just write it all in one and charge a few bucks more?
Ok now on to the story.
Its a good story, I enjoyed the moms struggles, and heartache. I would of hated to be in her shoes. I love how she helped so many! I differently felt for Janie and what was gong on.
I was voluntarily provided this free review copy audiobook by the author, narrator, or publisher.
    Murder Mystery..
    Any additional comments?
This is a suspenseful thrilling story about Jannie, a Mother, fighting for her son.
She is at a parent - teacher meeting and the unexpected happens.
There are twists and turns that kept me guessing until the end.
Overall, the story line was entertaining.
My only complaint is that I wish the book was a little longer.
Daniela Acitelli did well with the narration.
    Note:
"This audio book was provided by the author, narrator, or publisher at no cost in exchange for an unbiased review."
    Engaging and Owe Inspiring!!
This book was a good fast paced thriller that kept you wanting more. I enjoyed each of the characters and found it to be worth listening to.
Great mystery! Truly inspired narration plus a great story makes this a fantastic listen! Can't wait to download the next in series! --
I received a free copy of this book and voluntarily decided to review."
    Yes, just yes!
    Any additional comments?
I had no expectation with this listen but man, was it good.
The story itself was unpleasant but it was delivered in such a way that kept me listening.
The narrator was excellent! The subject of school shootings is disconcerting but the narrator was able to keep an even keel, keep me listening and keep characters sympathetic.
And that ending!!! Totally worth the listen.
"Dead silence made no sense to her."
    Any additional comments?
Set in a small town high school, Robyn Graham tells the story of that all too terrifying event - a shooting of the students by a few of their classmates, and of one mother, hailed as an heroine and saviour, who struggles to make sense of what has happened. It is a brave and well written attempt to tease out truth not only of who was responsible and what actually occurred, but why. And the courage to stand up and tell.

Callan wants out - out of the Section, out of the whole dirty business - but his reputation as a ruthless, ice-cold professional killer precedes him. He seems the ideal man to rescue the daughter of a radical Greek politician from her kidnappers, or so say both his former employers in the Section and his long-time enemies in the KGB.
With his only trustworthy ally, the timid and often pungent Lonely, Callan sets off for Crete knowing that failure or refusing to do the job could result in his own name on one of the Section's deadly Red Files.

    Five Stars
    Great transition. would recommend.
presented a department tasked with taking out the government's enemies and Callan was its very best agent. He also was its most
Most of the spy series on television in the late 60s were frivolous, brainless noise. Callan was not. Most of the books written based on those series were even more vapid. Callan absolutely was not. An impressively gritty but absolutely mesmerizing series, Callan, played ingeniously by Edward Woodward but drafted flawlessly by James Mitchell, presented a department tasked with taking out the government's enemies and Callan was its very best agent. He also was its most difficult because he hated the subterfuge, the secrecy, the violence, and the killing. He greatly regretted that the one thing he was the best at, killing someone, was something so abhorrent. But he still did it, time after time.
The author's ability to write scenery and dialogue to capture the character's mood as well as protray the danger and excitement of the missions was even better in prose form than it was in a script and it was terrific there. To read a Callan novel is to be drawn quickly and totally into cloak and dagger world, leaving the reader occasionally looking over the shoulder to make sure no one was watching.
This is the best of the Callan books, in my opinion. The great form the author was always in was even sharper and the pages fly by.
I strongly recommend Callan to any lover of spy series. I recommend this book especially.
    Another good Callan novel
For those who know the old British TV series of Callan, about a government secret service assassin, this book will be well worth your while to read. Even for those who don't know, this is an intricately-plotted gritty thriller which would interest anyone who likes a bit of backstabbing, murder and politics.
Callan, out of the government service, is met by some Greeks who want to hire his services for a little mission. When he hears the mission is a dangerous kidnapping in Greece he declines the job offer - but then Hunter hears about it and demands Callan take part. Along with his smelly thief friend, Lonely, Callan has to work with a range of untrustworthy assistants for a variety of devious bosses with several different agendas and preferred outcomes. Convoluted, tricky and exciting, it's another Callan novel worth a read - especially if you miss the TV series and you are waiting for the next box set DVDs to be released.
Third book in the Callan series
The third book in the Callan series and probably the best. Callan is hired by the department to go to Greece and do a simple job. As you might expect it turns out to be anything but simple but luckily Lonely is there as insurance.
    A great read.

Older folks adventuring in Italy and their trouble
What did you love best about Vain Pursuits?
The humor of the author which was reflected in the performance of Wendy Kay White.
Did the plot keep you on the edge of your seat? How?
No. The plot was just fun. The story kept you smiling throughout the entire adventure. Enjoyable to travel with not-so-worldly senior citizens in a foreign country and all of the trouble they can get into.
Have you listened to any of Wendy Kay Whites other performances before? How does this one compare?
    No.
Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?
    Made me laugh and smile.
    Any additional comments?
Thoroughly enjoyable, light story when you want a break from the murder and mayhem high-octane thrillers. A very cozy mystery.
    Tired of clichés
I must admit that I didn't finish this book. Right at the beginning, I was irritated with the unfair description of Lufthansa Airlines. I have made many, many trips across the Atlantic over the past 32 years, trying out various carriers. The most outstanding ones were British Airways and Lufthansa regarding customer service and traveling comfort, as well as friendliness. The by far lesser airlines were the ones touted among "the friendly skys", as mentioned by the author. Maybe J.B. Hawker has a personal bone to pick with the Germans, but that has nothing to do with the experience I've had with Lufthansa on many transatlantic flights. I'm not entirely sure why this irritated me so much that I did not want to continue with the book, but it might have something to do with the very old and very tired clichés that paint Germans as unfriendly and rude. The German people are quite the opposite.
Sorry, the rest of the book may be much better, but I could not get past this issue.
    Italian vacation travails
What did you love best about Vain Pursuits?
I enjoyed the scriptures at the beginning of each chapter. It did get a little preachy a couple of times within the story.
If youve listened to books by J. B. Hawker before, how does this one compare?
This was my first experience with these characters.
What about Wendy Kay Whites performance did you like?
    She is easy to understand.
Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?
I was almost moved to quit listening when it seemed as if this was a travelogue visiting churches that I care nothing about and have no desire to visit.
    Any additional comments?
The mystery was interesting. Italian mafia meets naïve American women.

    Publisher's Summary:
Stephanie Banner is 20 years old the night Dakota Shane stands center stage while six bullets ring out through the stadium. Five deaths occur from those shots, although only four ever go on record.
    All four are women.
It happens in Portland, Oregon, at the Rose Garden Arena. The show is a sellout. Twenty-two thousand seats gone in less than four hours.
For the eight days leading up to the concert, a handful of disparate lives intertwine as their world unravels. Their sanity, their relationships, their work, their children, the law, and even death hangs in the balance. Among them are: the learning-disabled black kid from East St. Louis trying to move past having his little sister die in his arms when she and his Momma become collateral damage during a drive-by; the quick-witted black man who, after losing control of his car on his way to visit family in Portland, finds himself duct-taped to a chair, a hostage to a meth-addled lunatic wanted for a double homicide; the Latino son now desperately struggling to rise above his abusive father and help his mother and sister move on to a better life, while unable to let go of the tremendous guilt he bears over the fate of the other sister he once had; the slash-punk singer who manages to score her band the best gig of its career, only to learn she may not have a band left to play it; the Korean psychiatrist finally confronting how much of her life has slipped by her - how many years she lost - while focussing on far less important things; the ex-LAPD detective now working for the Portland PD finally facing the ghosts that still linger from the time of the Rodney King riots - a past that forced him to drag his family up out of LA; the bitter ex-wife of a disc jockey who still secretly listens to her ex-husband's midnight radio show as she drinks herself into a whiskey coma; the out of control daughter having unprotected sex with strangers hoping that pregnancy might draw the attention of parents unable to see past themselves.
And then, Dakota Shane: chart-topping superstar with a dark secret, caught in a media and tabloid frenzy full of rumor, speculation, and lies. She's off her meds and grappling to find any semblance of herself that might still exist inside an identity forged over the past five years by an extremely successful record company's marketing department.
Each of these lives is a story and the stories collide with each other like silver balls bouncing off bumpers on a pinball machine.
But in the end, The Rose Garden Arena Incident is a tale about passion, about bravery, about redemption, about fixing those things in the world that are fixable and learning to live with the things that are not - a heartbreaking story of tragedy, despair, and loss that still somehow leaves you with a glimmer of faith, love, and hope.

We get to know Marshall a little better as he is waiting for Reggie to arrive for his visit. I am intrigued with Marshall's story, he has had a hard time dealing with the death of his family and with Reggie's predicament, it will be interesting to see where things end up with Marshall. Karma continues with her crazy decisions, partying with Stephanie and Brenda.

    An interesting, gripping book.
Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?
Don't know. Depends on the friend and their interests.
What was one of the most memorable moments of The Royal Rabbits of London?
When Nelson said that Horatio was his brother.
What does Mike Grady bring to the story that you wouldnt experience if you had only read the book?
I think he brings character and life to the animals.
Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?
    No.
    Any additional comments?
I didn't expect to find a children's book among the Contemporary Conquests section in Action and Adventure but I was happy to listen and really enjoyed it. I do wish that Horatio and Nelson had met and that it'd been part of the story. I also wish we'd known why Horatio shunned his life of royalty.
