You can almost taste the salty teenage musk on this one. If it had an odor it would be ganja and herbal essence shampoo.

Loved it. Great listen. Really felt like growing up young and crazy in SoCal. Every minute has something going on, and it's all fun.

Sex, drugs, and surfing. I was already interested and the book satisfied my interest.

Feels like he actually lived this life. Lots of on-the-ground details.

Not much. You could see him as the main character for sure.

I thought it was good. Different from what I usually read. It was kind of on the edge of creepy but it didn't step over the line, it just walked along it.

Not My Cup of Tea

This book wasnt for you, but who do you think might enjoy it more?

Im not sure who this story was geared to but I imagine it was for young kids.

How could the performance have been better?

A different narrator. Ive never listened to this narrator before and, on that not, I am not a fan. I swear it sounded like she was smiling the whole time. Her overly-chipper voice was so annoying! Thats what she sounded like to me. I also didnt like that she didnt do different voices for the characters, they all pretty much sounded the same. Additionally, on and off throughout the story I could hear random background noises, for example, static. That definitely detracts from the story.

You didnt love this book... but did it have any redeeming qualities?

I did the audiobook version of this story. Sorry, but I didnt like it at all. I hate giving bad reviews, what more can I say? It was an interesting concept, but fell flat, in my opinion.

Questions/Comments:

Theres the part after Bom gives him little speech, which gets Father mad at him. Theres supposed to be guards out looking for him. When Mystic goes to Boms room why didnt the guards question her? Or even better, why does Bom have guards to begin with?

Lack of detail. I found it strange that the author went into detail when Mystic was going through Boms room but everything else was left pretty vague. For example, the marketplace, what does it look like? We know theres a marketplace, a theater, bedrooms, a communal bathroom, an auditorium, etc., and its in what? An old office building? Because of this lack of detail, I had a hard time caring about the characters in the story. I never felt connected or really focused on the story, of course, the narrator didnt help in this area.

So, Tom aka Father saw Bom helping the little boy at the marketplace when he was freaking out about the high-priced crackers, YET, didnt know Bom had given food to the market guy?

How was Bom able to get so much food and all for the kids he helped get out and the market without Father noticing?

I would suggest to the author that he go with contractions next time. Because of the lack of contractions, at least based on the audiobook version, makes the story very stilted.

At the end, where had Joshua gotten money to live with?

Mystic had been a student when she got her first job, but as an adult needs a HS diploma. So, why hadnt she continued her education to get a GED? That part doesnt really make sense.

JC Lane wrote a fantastic, fast-paced story with a little "The Amazing Race", a little "The Hunger Games" and even a little "Mr. Robot" as well. She puts you into the games of 3 people with both the hunter and the hunted being well developed, real characters.

Make sure you have time to really sit down and read this book when you pick it up to start. I read it on a beach vacation and started it in the morning and finished it before dinner, just really sucked me in and I needed to see what happened!

Crackling suspense for readers of all ages

J.C. Lane has created a harrowing, fast-moving tale that fairly crackles with life-or-death suspense. I generally don't read a lot of YA fiction, but "Tag, You're Dead" is a book for all ages.

Fresh, exciting and something completely brand-new.

First of all, I'd like to thank the author J.C.Lane for getting in contact with me in regards to reading and reviewing Tag, You're Dead. I absolutely loved the premise of this book. It sounded exciting, fresh and not forgetting incredibly creative. I'm certain I haven't read a book quite like this one before and I couldn't wait to see what was in store for me. I loved the look of the cover and the blurb had me wondering how, exactly, the author would deliver such a story to the reader.
