Vitamin C does much more than support your immune system. It plays an important role in the health of your blood vessels, helping protect against oxidative stress, supporting collagen production, and helping preserve the normal function of the endothelium—the delicate inner lining of your arteries. Research has shown that vitamin C can influence nitric oxide availability and endothelial function, both of which are important for healthy blood flow and vascular flexibility.
Your arteries depend on strong connective tissue and healthy endothelial cells. Vitamin C is an essential cofactor for collagen production, which helps maintain the structure and integrity of blood vessels. When vitamin C intake becomes inadequate, collagen formation is impaired and oxidative stress may increase.
In this video, I explain the fascinating relationship between vitamin C, oxidative stress, lipoproteins, circulation, and arterial health. I also discuss why humans must obtain vitamin C from the diet, the importance of fruits and vegetables, and some of the best natural sources including citrus fruits, berries, kiwi, bell peppers, broccoli, tomatoes, and leafy green vegetables.
Research on vitamin C and cardiovascular health continues to evolve. Studies suggest that vitamin C supplementation can improve endothelial function in certain populations, particularly people with cardiovascular risk factors, although vitamin C supplements have not been proven to prevent heart attacks or reverse atherosclerosis.
The message is simple: maintaining an adequate intake of vitamin C is one important part of an overall heart-healthy lifestyle that also includes a nutritious diet, regular physical activity, healthy blood pressure, appropriate cholesterol management, good sleep, and avoiding smoking.
Make it a great day.

Most people think flattening the stomach means doing endless crunches and sit-ups, but one of the most important muscles for pulling the abdominal wall inward sits much deeper. The transverse abdominis wraps around your midsection like a natural corset and plays an important role in abdominal control, posture, core stability, and support of the spine. In this video, I’ll show you several simple standing exercises using only a wall to help activate and strengthen these deep core muscles — including the abdominal drawing-in maneuver, wall pelvic tilts, mini squats, and controlled wall pushes. Research has shown that drawing the abdomen inward can effectively recruit the transverse abdominis and that this muscle contributes to trunk and spinal stabilization. The beauty of these movements is that there’s no equipment, no crunching your neck, and no getting down on the floor. Practice them consistently and you may notice better awareness and control of your abdominal wall, improved core endurance, and better posture. Remember, these exercises strengthen and retrain the abdominal muscles; reducing abdominal fat still depends on overall nutrition, activity, and energy balance. Start slowly, focus on your breathing and technique, and let your deep core do the work.

Many people struggle to fall asleep, stay asleep, or wake up feeling truly refreshed. This simple nighttime drink combines warm milk with nutmeg to create a soothing bedtime ritual that may help your body relax and prepare for a more restful night. Nutmeg contains naturally occurring plant compounds and antioxidants, while milk provides tryptophan, an amino acid involved in the body's production of serotonin and melatonin—important pathways involved in normal sleep. Research on milk and dairy products suggests potential benefits for sleep, although results vary and the effects may be modest.
INGREDIENTS: 1 cup whole milk, almond milk, or soy milk • ½ teaspoon ground nutmeg • Optional pinch of cinnamon • Optional small drizzle of honey.
HOW TO MAKE IT: Warm the milk until comfortably hot. Stir in ½ teaspoon of ground nutmeg and add a pinch of cinnamon if desired. Let it cool slightly, then add a little honey for sweetness if you like. Sip it slowly as part of your bedtime wind-down routine. The warmth, aroma, and relaxing nighttime ritual can help signal that it's time to settle down for sleep. Use only the recommended culinary amount of nutmeg—more is not better.
RESEARCH: Studies have examined the relationship between dairy foods, tryptophan and sleep. A systematic review of milk and dairy products found some evidence of improvements in aspects of sleep, although findings varied between studies. Research also supports the biological role of tryptophan as a precursor involved in serotonin and melatonin pathways, and studies of tryptophan supplementation have reported improvements in certain measures of sleep.

Have you ever met someone, heard their name clearly, and then seconds later realized it was completely gone? This happens to millions of people, and it doesn’t necessarily mean you have a bad memory. Names are unusually difficult for the brain to remember because, unlike a face, voice, object, or location, a name often has very little built-in meaning or visual information for the brain to grab onto. When you first hear a name, it enters working memory, where attention is limited and easily interrupted by everything else happening during a social interaction—making eye contact, thinking about what you’re going to say, listening to the other person, and being aware of how you are coming across. If that information isn’t properly encoded, the name may disappear before it ever becomes a stable memory. In this video, I explain how attention, working memory, the prefrontal cortex, and the hippocampus work together when you meet someone, and why stress, fatigue, poor sleep, distraction, and simply having too much going on at once can make remembering names even more difficult. More importantly, I’ll show you several simple ways to make a name more memorable the moment you hear it. Repeating the name once out loud can strengthen your attention to it. Connecting the name to a visual feature gives the brain another association to retrieve later. Adding a small physical movement, deliberately focusing your attention, and creating a meaningful association can provide additional cues for encoding and recall. Timing also matters—the first few seconds after hearing a name are important, so instead of trying desperately to remember it minutes later, give it your full attention immediately. Forgetting a newly introduced person’s name from time to time is common and is different from persistent or progressive memory problems involving familiar people, places, events, or everyday functioning. The goal is to work with the way your memory naturally operates: pay attention, create associations, repeat important information, and give your brain multiple ways to retrieve it later. Try these techniques the next time someone introduces themselves and see how much easier remembering their name can become. Burning feet, tingling hands, numbness, stabbing pain, and electric-shock sensations can be signs that your nerves are irritated, damaged, or struggling to function normally. In this video, I share 9 powerful ways to help support neuropathy, nerve pain, and inflammation by addressing factors that can affect the health of the nerve itself. You’ll learn how stabilizing blood sugar, reducing oxidative stress and chronic inflammation, supporting mitochondrial energy production, getting adequate magnesium and important B vitamins such as B1 and B12, and nutrients including alpha-lipoic acid, CoQ10, omega-3 fatty acids, and curcumin may support healthier nerve function. I’ll also explain why regular movement, quality sleep, breathing, and stress reduction can play an important role in calming overly sensitive nerves and supporting cellular repair. Your nerves require tremendous amounts of energy to maintain normal electrical signaling, and when mitochondrial function and ATP production are impaired, nerves may become more irritable and hyperexcitable. The goal is not simply to cover up burning and tingling, but to understand and address factors that may be contributing to unhealthy nerve function. Neuropathy has many possible causes, including diabetes, vitamin deficiencies, medications, chemotherapy, nerve compression, and other medical conditions, so persistent or worsening numbness, burning, tingling, weakness, or pain should always be evaluated by a qualified healthcare professional. Always speak with your healthcare professional before starting supplements or making significant changes to your health regimen. Scientific References: Ziegler D, et al.
