FOLLOW UP - LEVC TX LONDON CAB PRICE

NEW PETROL AND DIESEL ONLY ENGINED CARS BANNED IN UK FROM 2040

In the aftermath of the news, that new ICE only engined cars will be banned from 2040, which was part of the UK Government's environmental paper. There was, as seems to be the norm these days, hysteria and silliness for something that will happen in 23 years. One would think, it was going to come into force tomorrow and the Government was going to take our cars away from us.

ANNOUNCEMENT - ROAD TRIP

In a first for the Motoring Podcast, the chaps announce a road-trip. They will be using a regular priced electrical car to see how far they can drive around Great Britain in six days. The road-trip will take place from 28 August until 2 September 2017. More information will be released as we get closer to the date!

POSSIBLE DIESEL VEHICLE TAX RISE

FOLLOW UP - #DIESELGATE - AUDI "VOLUNTARY' RECALL

Following, hot on the heels of Mercedes, has announced a "voluntary" recall 850,000 of their V6 and V8 diesel engines, worldwide. The tweak will improve the real-world emissions. This is all the result of a meeting with German regulators. To read more click the Autocar article here.

FOLLOW UP - DEREGISTER OF UNFIXED GERMAN #DIESELGATE ENGINES THREAT

The German motor vehicle regulator, the KBA, has threatened to deregister cars that have not undergone the fix that addresses the amount of NOx emitted. In Germany, this was declared mandatory as it was a safety recall, unlike in the UK. To read more click the Autocar article here.

FOLLOW UP - VW REBUTT TFL'S CLAIM OF EXTRA £2.5M CONGESTION CHARGE

THe Mayor of London, via Transport for London, has sent Volkswagen a bill for an extra £2.5 million, he claims is owed due to their cars being falsely banded. VW refute this, as even after the 'fix' their cars do not change band and therefore are still at the same rate on the congestion charge as before. To read more click the BBC News article here.

FOLLOW UP - GERMAN CAR CARTEL IS ALLEGED

Reports started coming out of Germany, last Friday, that the VW Group, BMW and Mercedes had created a cartel. This cartel is accused of a wide range of issues including price fixing, supplier prices, AdBlue tank sizes and eventually allowing emission cheating to occur. Andrew has had enough now. He is jolly cross about what #Dieselgate is doing to the industry and the people who work in it. The general public now has very little confidence in the industry and the people who work in it. That is unacceptable.

CITYMAPPER OPENS A BUS ROUTE

Following a brief experiment of running a bus and analysing data that users of their app have provided, Citymapper has received the license to run a bus route in London. MUSK PREDICTS THE FUTURE

Elon Musk has declared that almost all cars will be sold will be autonomous in 10 years. This allows Alan and Andrew to make it clear that any statement of a vehicle's autonomous level is self-declared by the manufacturer. Remember that when you read anything that mentions an AV Level. NEW TESLA DIRECTORS

LUCID MOTORS SEEKS BUYER

Lucid Motos is seeking a buyer, in order to progress as a company as they wish to. Currently, they are in discussions with Ford, who has suggested they are not that interested. To read more click the Bloomberg article here.

FARADAY FUTURE STOPS DIGGING

Faraday Future's Nevada plant has been halted due to a lack of cash. In the complete opposite approach to Lucid, Faraday didn't secure extra funding before starting their factory. As their CEO, Jia Yueting, has money problems. To read more click the Automotive News article here.

SENSIBLE CAR TAX PROPOSED

The Wolfson Economics Prize has been awarded to the proposal of charging owners for the amount of mileage they drive, instead of the current vehicle excise duty and fuel duty. MERCEDES TO RECALL 3 MILLION DIESELS

Mercedes announced a 'voluntary recall' of 3 million diesel cars, following meetings with German Transport Ministry officials. EMERGENCY AREAS FOR SMART MOTORWAYS

 

To try and solve the issue of where a driver is to safely go in the event of an emergency, whilst driving on a Smart Motorway, as there are no hard shoulders, there is a trial on the M3.
