Grow Strong, Move Wild
Hey! Welcome to Move Wild Podcast, a podcast dedicated to understanding human health from an evolutionary perspective, and integrating the universal principles of human health and wildness into our lives. Each week I interview and discuss with guests on topics and conversations entered around re-wilding, natural movement, nature connection and ancestral living practices. Thanks for joining me on this journey!
About today’s show:
Today I had the honour of speaking with Steve Aldridge….
Steve Aldridge is the founder of Wild Movement Perth.
For ten years he worked in the health and wellness industry learning all the reasons how and why our modern lifestyle does not naturally result in healthy humans.
This left him with one burning question. What makes a healthy human?
What started as a quest to learn about human health quickly led to the understanding that humans are dependent on and part of ecology and that all organisms are best off when fulfilling their role within the ecosystem.
His own journey into rewilding, difficulty finding mentors in Perth and no desire to be part of a purely online community of “rewilders” led him to create Wild Movement Perth.
Wild Movement Perth exists to create a culture of people in Perth around rewilding.
Steve helps groups and individuals to reconnect with what it means to be human and understand how we fit into the web of life through Natural Movement, Nature Connection & Earth Based Skills.
Basket weaving, edible weed workshops, fire by friction, green wood carving, overnight camps, educational wilderness walks and adventure days are some of the experiences he currently offers.
Situated in the Whadjuk region of Nyoongar Boodjar he lives with his wife and two
children.

About today's show:
Today I am sharing a conversation I recorded with Peter Michael Bauer of Rewild Portland.
Peter Michael Bauer is an anthropologist, experimental archaeologist, and historian. His work focuses on the social and environmental impacts of the neolithic revolution, and how understanding these impacts can provide us with solutions to the sixth mass extinction. Since the early 2000’s, he has been an integral catalyst in the human rewilding movement. He sees rewilding as a principle, or a lens, that helps us see and move through the world in terms of regeneration and reciprocity. It is not the “one right way”—it is a million ways to live in the flow of natural cycles. It recognises that humans are not above those flows, and that it is actually more beneficial to our ecosystems when we acknowledge and become part of them. This movement works to create resilience through the return to place-based, regenerative subsistence strategies, inspired by those that existed prior to–or exist outside of–the formation of agrarian states. He created the first international online rewilding forum (now archived at discuss.rewild.com), wrote a book on rewilding called Rewild or Die, founded the organisation Rewild Portland (where he teaches classes), and created the Annual North American Rewilding Conference.

Today's Show:
Today I had the pleasure of sitting down and having a chat with Damien Norris of the Wilding Project. Damien has a background in gymnastics, parkour and natural movement. Damien’s journey of getting back into movement after leaving gymnastics not only transformed his fitness, but reconnected him to his wild side and what the human body has been capable of for many millennia. he has returned from a journey across the world, connecting with different movement experts on his travels. He lives in Perth with his wife and son, and owns and coaches at his gym - The Wilding Project. He has a great Tedx talk that I highly recommend where he talks about the process of Re-wilding our bodies.
We go into a wide range of topics in this one such as the difference between exercise and fitness, the role of fitness in the modern world and so much more, I was so stoked and grateful that Damien took the time to have this conversation and I’m excited to see what you think. This conversations inspired me in so many ways….
