  • S.2, EP.19 - RE-MEMBERING OUR PLACE IN NATURE WITH JOSH MCLEAN

Hey, hey! Welcome back to another epic episode of the Move Wild Podcast!

I had the pleasure of recording a conversation with my friend Josh from the bush tannery. Josh is such a legend and it was great to connect with him again after not having seen him for a couple of years. So much of what he said in this interview resonated with me on a very deep level and also inspired me. His energy and passion was contagious.

Josh McLean is a traditional tanner and public health practitioner living on Gulidjan country (Otways in South West Victoria). With a Masters in Public Health and currently finishing his Masters of Social Work, Josh is passionate about preventative holistic health and nature based practices. Owner and operator of The Bush Tannery, he has made appearances at events such as the Lost Trades Fair, and taught countless workshops/ people the ancient art of tanning over the past 5 years. In his free time you will catch him pottering around his home workshop sipping cups of tea and listening to various recordings on human behaviour and consciousness.

  • S.2, EP.17 - TRADITIONAL FOOD WAYS WITH DR. BILL SCHINDLER

    HEY!

Welcome back to another awesome episode :)

Move Wild Podcast, is a podcast dedicated to understanding human health from an evolutionary perspective, and integrating the universal principles of human health and wildness into our lives. Each week I interview and discuss with guests on topics and conversations focused around re-wilding, natural movement, nature connection and ancestral living practices. Thanks for joining me on this journey!

    About today's show:

Today I have the pleasure of sharing a conversation I had with Dr. Bill Schindler.

Dr. Bill Schindler is the founder and director of the Eastern Shore Food Lab, an Associate Professor of Anthropology and Archaeology at Washington College in Chestertown, Maryland and the co-star of the National Geographic series, The Great Human Race, Curiosity Stream’s, The Modern Stone Age Family and Wired Magazine’s, Basic Instinct.  He is a food archaeologist, primitive technologist and chef.  He travels the world documenting traditional food ways and works to draw inspiration from the deep archaeological record, rich and diverse ethnographic record and modern culinary world to create food solutions that are relevant, meaningful and accessible today.  Bill is a strong advocate of traditional foodways and is constantly seeking new ways to incorporate lessons learned from his research into the diets of modern humans.  His outlook on food has revolutionised the way in which he and his family eat and he attributes much of the health his wife and three children enjoy to the nutrient dense hunted, gathered, and fermented foods that comprise a significant portion of their diets.  He empowers people around the world to eat like humans again by reconnecting them with their food, past, environment and communities through speaking, teaching and writing.

  • S.2, EP.11 - EMPOWERMENT AND DEVELOPING SELF-RELIANCE THROUGH ANCESTRAL SKILLS WITH WONIYA THIBEAULT

Hey! Welcome to Move Wild Podcast, a podcast dedicated to understanding human health from an evolutionary perspective, and integrating the universal principles of human health and wildness into our lives. Each week I interview and discuss with guests on topics and conversations entered around re-wilding, natural movement, nature connection and ancestral living practices. Thanks for joining me on this journey!

    About today's show:

Today I have the pleasure of sharing with you a conversation I had with Woniya Thibeault of Buckskin Revolution.

Woniya Thibeault is a naturalist, craftsperson, and ancestral skills instructor, and her greatest ambition and joy is striving to be a wilder human.

Woniya’s work, through her business Buckskin Revolution, is to help people feel connected to their wildest, freest selves, and to the living world around them. She believes that practicing ancestral lifeskills in the context of our globalized, mechanized world is an important and revolutionary act. She teaches a wide range of topics, sharing skills that help people feel empowered to make and do more things for themselves and to feel and more connected to their human ancestors and the living world around them. Gathering and growing our own food, making the clothes we wear from resources in the woods around us, learning to understand what the birds are saying about the movements of other creatures in the forest are a few examples of the skills she teaches. Woniya teaches through in-person classes, her Youtube channel, speaking engagements, and the books she is currently writing.

Woniya believes that these skills and life ways are an important part of our human heritage and should be available to all of us. They speak to that place inside us that remembers what it feels like to know the world around us intimately, to shape the substance of our lives from the raw materials around us. They remind us what it is to be human and connected to the wild within and around us.

With a masters degree in Environmental Science and 25 years of study and practice of ancestral lifeways, Woniya works to bridge the practical hands on skills for land based living skills with a deep understanding of and love for the natural world.

The Buckskin Revolution is not just making buckskin clothing, or harvesting wild foods or survival skills, it is about inspiring and enabling people to do more for themselves and to be freer, healthier, wilder, more connected human beings.
