Are you conditioning your body in the right way? Have you mastered the technique before you start adding volume?
When we have poor understanding that all movement can be practiced with good form or bad form we start to build up volume of practice that might actually be harming our bodies.
This episode delves into why it is always crucial to value quality over quantity.
What does it mean to live sustainably?
Today I talk with Daniel Sainty a teacher of what he calls Ancestral Living Skills.
Dan lives set-nomadically on his land with pack goats, practicing and teaching Re-wilding and Ancestral Living Skills. He has plenty of experience in living and teaching these skills, I loved my conversation with him and I'm stoked to be able to share it with you!
Check out more of his work and get in contact with him over at rewildaustralia.org and on instagram - @rewildaustralia
IF YOU ONLY HAD LIMITED TIME TO PRACTICE NATURAL MOVEMENT WHAT WOULD YOU PRIORITISE?
I lay out the 5 Natural Movements I think are crucial to practice on a daily basis and why, how you can start to integrate them into your life and some of the progressions.
While many people would love to have the luxury of time to move naturally and develop all the skills, we need to prioritise, this podcast is my recommendation on how to do just that.
If you want to talk your physical capability to the next level and start embracing what it means to move like a human, head over to Move Wild Academy and sign-up for the membership and join the fastest growing online movement platform in the world and a community of like-minded people!
Are you inclined to drift slowly towards what you're good at, what's comfortable for you, what's easy? Are the consequences of this behaviour more important than we make them out to be.
I see so many people who seem content with 'doing their thing' because they are good at it, but when we put it back into context, that thing was hard when they first started out, it's just we seem to forget that.
We need to expand our comfort zone by challenging ourselves to be proficient in many areas of movement (and life), to move away from being a specialist and move towards being a generalist.
Do you spend time training a wide-range of real-world, practically applicable skills, or do you ignore the fact that you are not capable in some areas and would rather spend time in the areas you are capable.
Skills such as running, lifting, carrying, fighting and swimming seem inconsequential to those who like to stick to 'their thing' (whether thats parkour, gymnastics or handstands) until the time comes where the situation calls on them to know how to move their bodies in an adaptable manner in order to respond.
The lack of having a firm base of these skills can sometimes lead to situations that if prepared for could have been avoided. Whereby he who has spent hours practicing handstands has no capability in rescuing a drowning person, or those who are obsessed with calisthenics cannot move heavy objects to clear the path to a burning building.
Don't get caught off guard, be a generalist.

Strength training, like many forms of modern fitness, has lost a lot of context in a world devoid of physical challenge. How can we re-contextualise strength training so that it becomes natural and serves a greater purpose?
For what purpose are you strong? Is it so that you can look good or actually perform and move better in everyday life?

We have been told to avoid the Sun at all costs, lest it's rays burn us, but does the sunlight we have been exposed to for all of our species evolution play a role in our overall health and vitality? Does it somehow relate to how we are meant to live as humans on this planet?
I believe that sunlight should be considered an essential nutrient in terms of daily exposure and that is exactly what I cover on today's podcast - Why we need it!

How have the recent shifts unsocial dynamics through mass agriculture and the digital age affected our health?
Fasting is necessary to health, we as humans have evolved in environments whereby we were forced to for periods without food - our bodies adapted. We live in a culture obsessed with food, but is this healthy? Are we missing out on our true level of natural health by never fasting and constantly eating?
We need to bring back the context of fasting in health and why it is critical.

The modern world is filled with all sorts of diet trends and fads, though few seem to base any of their advice on what humans are actually designed to eat. If you talk to the average person about food they have a very poor understanding of where we come from and what we have evolved to eat and live on. We live in an age where food has become so abstract and disconnected from its origins that many people have lost all sense that we are animals who have evolved to eat specific foods.

There seems to be a high value placed on feeling good when you move - the reality is this should only occasionally be the aim when it comes to training. Our bodies were designed to get the job done, not to just do what feels right. Physical stress and challenge is not an option, it's a necessity - we are designed to endure hardship in order to experience freedom - when we remove challenge we never know freedom and we become weakened.
