"Discussion animée entre entendeurs de voix" (Animated
discussion between voice-hearers) won the Flying Film Festival first prize. We had a conversation on the project with the director Tristan Thil.
In the documentary we meet a group of people who gather to talk about how they deal with the voices in their heads. Instead of “schizophrenic”, to present themselves they prefer the term “voice-hearers” .
ENG translation of the dialogue excerpts:
- Carol: I had to go to another hospital to find out that it's called schizophrenia, and it comes from my brain. From my brain, yes...
It's my brain that secretes the talking voices, I thought it was telepathy, they get in and out against my will.
- Antonin : and do you answer them?
- Carol: Uh, yes... Well it's not like a real dialogue, but sometimes they ask questions, so I answer.
- Antonin: Oh, that...shh! Don't say that to anybody... They're gonna say you're nuts.
- Carol: but I can say it here!
- Virginia: Is there a link between the music you play, or listen to, and the reactions [of the voices]?
- Robert: Oh yes, totally. For example I'm not allowed to play Mozart, because he was coprophilic... Neither Mussorgsky, because he was an alcoholic. And, of course, I'm not allowed to play Schumann!
- Robert: because Schumann was schizophrenic!
- Does everybody take pills?
-I used to take Solian. Now it's Amisulpride, a generic. I took 2 in the morning, 2 in the evening. Now I do 7!
-Haha! I've got the same.
