From 2013: Do you ever hear a voice in your head when you read a book? For example, if you read the – God forbid – autobiography of Justin Beiber, would you imagine the Biebs reading it to you? Well, ever since my first interview with novelist Max Allan Collins, I can’t help but read his detective stories and hear his voice unraveling the narrative and dialogue. That was particularly true in "Seduction of the Innocent," a wacky twisting of realish people and false situations.

From 2013: In" The Story of Film: An Odyssey," which was just released as a DVD set, filmmaker Mark Cousins give the rest of the world its due. You’ll watch this documentary and be introduced to the brilliance of many filmmakers whose names and titles you probably never heard of before.

From 2012: I hope he takes this as a compliment, but Xander Demos’ guitar stylings remind me of the 1980s. In that era, I was a newspaper rock critic, listening to hour upon hour of heavy metal guitar solos and hair nation bands. And I liked it!

From 2013: Richard Doetsch’s 6th adventure-packed tale is "The Thieves of Legend." It reunites Michael St. Pierre and his supporting cast for their wildest globe-spanning challenge yet. It is the 4th in the series; I recommend if you’re new to Doetsch’s Thieves that you just order all four now. This is Doetsch’s fourth appearance on Mr. Media and his second on video. From 2013: Some of the fun of “1600 Penn” is likely to be deciding what is based on truth, what is make-believe, and what is the stuff Jon Lovett wished were going on at The White House. It also gives Jason Winer, Lovett’s co-creator, an unusually deep resource and partner in crime for a comedy that is as politically erudite as it is emotionally awkward. Winer knows awkward and funny: he directed the pilot of “Modern Family” and many episodes since, as well as several “New Girl” installments.

From 2013: In “Cameron,” which Jillette Johnson will perform for us, she tells the tale of a bullied young man who makes his father mad because he “likes wearing lipstick.” Jillette has a unique perspective and, I suspect, point of reference, making her songs sound like operatic ballads when they’re very simple stories about real-life people. From 2013: We’ve taken this show to a lot of interesting places thanks to the Internet. Today’s show extends the franchise a little further, as Mr. Media has been invited into the Hartford, Connecticut, loft of bass guitarist Doug Wimbish, where a remarkable rehearsal will take place right before our eyes. Joining us are Wimbish and his friends, drummer Keith LeBlanc and guitarist Adam Falcon.
