From 2012: No matter what you look like, it’s not out of the realm of possible that at some point in life you were made to feel you were not attractive enough – for a guy, a girl, a job or even a Skype video interview. Still, it’s hard to believe anybody ever looked at Josey Milner and said out loud that she wasn’t pretty enough for anything. And yet that’s the title of her new country single, “Am I Not Pretty Enough?”

From 2012: Andy Mangels, my guest today, helped write the autobiography, Lou Scheimer: Creating the Filmation Generation. Getting my hands on a copy of the book, which is jam-packed with photos – many black and white, the way I originally watched Filmation shows as a kid – was a thrill and a half. If you remember these shows as fondly as I do and what to hear some great stories behind them, I encourage you to order a copy of this book.

From 2012: Does anybody really believe that the world needs another book about the phenomenon that is Star Trek? Not me. And probably not my guest today, genre historian Bob Greenberger. But because ST:TCUH – I’m sorry, Star Trek: The Complete Unauthorized History – was written by the esteemed Mr. G, I was curious to have a look. Based on his history both inside and outside of comics and sci-fi fandom, it seemed likely he of all people could find some genuine nuggets of unique Trekness.

From 2012: One song is all it took me to invite singer Amy Rose to be a guest on the show today. If you can find a woman whose voice, demeanor and spirit is any more country than this young woman’s, sign her and get her to Nashville. But in the meantime, give a listen to the pipes on Amy Rose in her rising country single, “I Just Want You to Know.” Or her earlier one, “Redneck Reunion.” That’s a fun song and she sings the hell out of it.

From 2012: Darryl Lenox jokes about himself throughout his new Starz comedy special, “Blind Ambition.” But it takes a while for it to sink in on the viewer that the title of the show really does refer to him. He is blind in his left eye and has a limited field of vision in the right. So what though? The man is funny. He will make you laugh at things you didn’t know were funny. And they probably wouldn’t be funny coming from someone else.

From 2012: Howard Cruse’s newest raid on the archives is The Other Sides of Howard Cruse. It includes a big helping of his beloved Barefootz strip—which means cockroaches, frogs, sexually frustrated Dolly and is-he-or-isn’t-he Headrack. Then we get introduced to Shearwell the sheep, the squirrels of Tops & Button, Big Marvy, and yes, even “The Nightmares of Little Lulu.” There is plenty of the underground, stoner, sex-starved humor for which he is famous.

From 2012: I couldn’t help but be interested in watching rock photog Bob Gruen and Nadya Gruen’s new film, "Ike & Tina: On the Road 1971-72." It’s a hybrid of a classic concert footage interposed with the Ike & Tina Turner Revue on the road, plus extremely rare footage of the Turners at home with their children. I wouldn’t call it a documentary, per se; it lacks a narrative or even a narrator.

From 2012: Dr. Lillian Glass, who previously visited Mr. Media to talk about her book Toxic People, is really on to something with her latest book, The Body Language Advantage. Whether you’re in business, in a relationship, a sports coach or just like people watching, you’re sure to learn something interesting from Dr. Glass’s interpretations of body language – and the accompanying photos. And I’d like to immediately suggest a sequel: "The Naked Body Language Advantage." Think about it.

From 2012: Did I see the steamy remake of The Postman Always Rings Twice, with Jack Nicholson and Jessica Lange, before I found the ancient paperback version at the old Book Swap in Milltown, NJ? Or was it the other way around? Well, 35 years after Cain’s death, his final manuscript – his lost novel, as it is being touted – turned up. The Cocktail Waitress was a story Cain was never quite satisfied with. Enter Charles Ardai, editor of the Hard Case Crime publishing imprint.
