In a victory for 3M (NYSE:MMM), DuPont (DD), Corteva (CTVA), Chemours (CC) and other manufacturers of toxic "forever chemicals," the 6th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals on Monday vacated a lower court's ruling that would have allowed nearly 12M Ohio residents to sue the companies as a group in a class action lawsuit.

The court ruled the lead plaintiff had filed too broad a complaint against the manufacturers, and had not shown the PFAS substances found in his body could be traced directly to the companies.

"Seldom is so ambitious a case filed on so slight a basis," the judge in the case wrote, noting there are thousands of companies that have manufactured PFAS chemicals but just 10 were listed as defendants.

Nine months on from the devastating death of 16-year-old Brianna Ghey the trial of two teens charged with her murder has begun.

A boy and a girl both 16, who cannot be named for legal reasons, each face a charge of murdering the Birchwood schoolgirl in Culcheth Linear Park in February. 

Trans teenager Ghey was found dead on 11 February in Culcheth Linear Park in Culcheth, Warrington. Her death was determined to have been caused by multiple stab wounds. 

The teenagers were arrested at around 7.30pm on 12 February and charged in the early hours on 15 February.

Maine Democratic Gov. Janet Mills on Monday signed into law a bill that partially decriminalizes prostitution, with supporters saying the measure protects the most vulnerable while still targeting those who exploit them.

The bill, sponsored by Rep. Lois Reckitt, D-South Portland, eliminates the crime of engaging in prostitution. It also elevates the crime of solicitating a child for commercial sexual exploitation, lifting the crime from a misdemeanor to a felony with a maximum punishment of five years in state prison.

Reckitt, the longtime director of Family Crisis Services in Portland and an advocate for women suffering from domestic abuse, said the bill will help people pushed into sex trafficking by desperate circumstances.

Reckitt joined Mills for the bill-signing ceremony two years after the governor vetoed a similar bill.

“We are long overdue to better protect and decriminalize sellers engaged in prostitution without legalizing pimping and sex buying,” Reckitt said in a statement.

Australian media personality Em Rusciano has opened up about her experience with embattled comedian Russell Brand when she worked in radio.

The podcaster, 44, made the remarks on Thursday's episode of her Emsolation podcast. 

Responding to the anonymous allegations made in media reports over the weekend accusing the English comedian of rape, Em claimed that she'd thought nothing of Brand's sexual playfulness at the time, as it was before the #MeToo era.

YouTube has blocked Russell Brand from making money off its platform and the BBC pulled some of his shows from its online streaming service in the wake of rape and sexual assault allegations against the comedian-turned-influencer.

YouTube said in a statement early Tuesday that it had “suspended monetization” on Brand's channel for violating its “creator responsibility policy.”

“If a creator’s off-platform behavior harms our users, employees or ecosystem, we take action to protect the community,” the online platform said.
