In today's episode of the Mr. Wine Guy Podcast I have the pleasure of sitting down with Chris Carpenter, Winemaker for Jackson Family Wines out of Napa Valley, CA.

Chris has been in the wine industry for a little over 20 years now crafting wines for some of the most incredible brands out of Napa Valley, as well as the McLaren Vale of Australia.

One of the cool things about this podcast was I got to interview Chris from Australia, where he's currently making wine.  Not only did he share his valuable time to interview for the show, but he also discusses the current vintage in-depth and what makes winemaking in Australia and California so different.

Chris talks about one of his biggest strengths in the wine industry and that's his ability to make incredible mountain appellation wines and what makes these wines so different in comparison to a lot of the cabernet-driven wines you'll get on the valley floor.

With that being said, Chris shares his love and passion for Merlot and his ability to craft some absolutely fantastic Merlot's, and the progression forward that Merlot is making having spent so many years misunderstood by the public.

Chris also talks about his love for music, how much music and wine coexist in very strange and comparable simularities, and also his involvement with the Napa Valley Youth Symphony and what it meant to be the President of this outstanding organization. 

Chris is such an incredible human being who's not only recognized for his hard work and dedication in the wine industry, but also his love and compassion for his family and friends and how he wouldn't be where he is today if it weren't for the continued support of these people.

Carole also talks about her experience as a Vintner Hall of Famer since 2009, and her roles in the SOMM into the Bottle and SOMM III documentaries.

Carole is a living legend in the wine industry and wildly regarded as one of the most respected and talented people in the wine industry.  It was truly an honor to be able to interview Carole for this podcast and I cannot wait for you to dive in and hear all the amazing things she has to talk about.

In today's episode of the Mr. Wine Guy Podcast, I have the privilege of introducing to you Jason Lede, Sales Manager for Lede Family Wines and FEL Wines, both out of Napa Valley and Anderson Valley, CA.

Jason shares the story of how Lede Family Wines started back in 2002 when his father Cliff Lede set out on a mission to fulfill a life-long dream and start his own wine brand.  Today the Lede Estate sits on 60 acres of breathtaking property overlooking the Stags Leap District.

Jason talks briefly about Poetry Inn, a luxurious 5 room private villa with each room containing it's own private balcony, wood-burning fire place, and incredible valley views.  Poetry Inn is the only private luxury hotel located in the Stags Leap District.  Jason also talks about what inspired his father to create Poetry Inn and what makes it so special and unique.

Jason talks about Lede Family Wines receiving both Napa Green Land and Napa Green Winery Certifications in 2015 and what that means, especially in a society today where it seems everyone is very conscious driven from what they wear, to what they eat and drink.

Jason also talks about his family's love and passion for music and how music has been such an influence, not only in his families life but also on the family vineyards and winery as well.

With that being said, Jason is an incredible DJ and spends a good amout of time spinning at the Estate for spcial events and even donates his time to charitable causes and spins at places where the proceeds for the event go directly to a deserving charity which says so much about how great of a dude Jason Lede is!

John talks about the inception of Boich Family Cellar and how it all began when a casual conversation about available Real Estate in Napa Valley with Roberta Wall, led to a trip to the northern most tip of the Mt. Veeder AVA and an impulse purchase of the property we now know as Boich.  John even mentions that, “this whole thing started with a connection to the land” and now, the rest is history. 

To go on, John talks about his love and appreciation for Duane and Roberta Wall and how John feels Duane is not only an incredible human being but a “father-figure mentor and one of the most do-it-yourself men he has ever known.”   

John talks about the privilege it is to have winemaker Jeff Ames and assistant winemaker David Grega onboard manning the helm and how, between Jeff being one of the best and most talented winemakers he has ever known, and David being one of the most educated and sophisticated palates he’s ever been around, you couldn’t ask for a better, more appropriate fit for Boich. 

John also talks about some pretty solid advice he would give himself if he could go back in time and that would be to “establish role models along the way, always seek out people, and surround yourself with people that you respect and look up to.” 

With that being said, this episode is jam-packed with so much inspiration and so much emphasis on following your dreams, doing what you love, and being completely and totally passionate about everything in the process.

In today's episode, I have the privilege of introducing to you a man whose passion for wine runs so deep, but didn't necessarily start according to plan.  This man is none other than Anthony Schroth, Winemaker for Jackson Hole Winery of Jackson Hole, WY, and Premonition Cellars out of Sonoma County, CA.

In this episode Anthony shares how he fell into this career, taking 2 classes in wine to graduate from Sonoma State University, thinking this would get him one step closer to a career in baseball, but eventually led him down the road to becoming a full-time winemaker.

Anthony also talks about Jackson Hole Winery and how he picks 60 tons of California fruit, tops it off with dry ice, rents Budget Trucks and transports the fruit 16 hours north to Jackson Hole, WY at 6,200 feet above sea level and 18 degrees less oxygen to then crush, ferment, and age his wines.

Anthony's proven that you don't have to live in Napa Valley, or any other wine growing region for that matter to make world class wines.  You just have to have a high willingness to learn, and a genuine passion to go completely over the top to reach the achievements of your success.

Anthony shows how life doesn't always give us what we want, but that doesn't mean we aren't getting what we need.  Baseball was always Anthony's passion, marketing was his fall-back, and wine wasn't even a thought, but through fate and divine intervention, Anthony is now an extraordinary winemaker who's rapidly propelling to the top and he couldnt be happier!
