  • Hawkeye Season 1 Episode 5 - Super Tuesday Recap
Florence Pugh is lovely. Gotta love how she plays Yelena in a way that's so disarming yet also reminds you that she could kill you at any moment. This episode of Hawkeye does well to set us up for the finale. It also does a great job of showing why it was a good idea to put Black Widow after End Game. It's very clear that the Phase 4 MCU theme is how different people deal with grief. When you look at this show, we have Clint, Yelena, Maya and even Kate all being individuals that had different (and in many ways toxic) ways of dealing with grief.
Also, get you someone that has your back like Laura has Clint's. She basically told him to "Do what you gotta do and hurt who you gotta hurt".
And then there's the reveal of who the "Big Guy" is. We all kinda knew but it was still great to get confirmation. Also, Marvel are a bunch of assholes for how they did it (a grainy cell phone video? They knew we wouldn't care). We can't wait to see how the finale plays out.

  • Spider-Man No Way Home - Movie Trailer Reviews
Come on. You already know you're going to see this film. There's no point in wasting time writing a long ass review for something that you are going to see. We could say this movie was trash (it's not) and you would still go to see it. It's going to be the biggest movie to come out since COVID and for good reason. Sony's best decision ever was letting Marvel Studios hold the reins and take control. The result is not only the best live-action Spider-Man trilogy but the best trilogy in the MCU. If for some reason you're looking to reviews to determine if you want to see this film then the answer is this film isn't for you (at all).
There's plenty of reasons to love this film. The first is the way that it reminds us that no matter what big things Peter Parker is dealing with, he's still just a kid that wants to hang with his friends and do right. It's what makes Peter so special. By focusing on that, this film can also tell a big story that's both small in how it focuses on the core of Peter Parker but large in how the effects will spread through the MCU.
Our audio review is 100% spoiler-free. You can listen to Kriss & Ro talk about all the non-spoiler reasons this movie is great. Our spoiler review will be coming over the weekend for premium members and include Dpalm joining us to talk. You won't want to miss that.

  • Saint Maud - Movie Trailer Reviews
Kriss, Ro and yes, even Brandon get together to discuss the A24 film, Saint Maud. This film is listed as a horror film but it's really more of a drama/thriller. It does have some body horror in it but it's really more about how the lead character has become completely devoted to her faith to the point of being delusional.
One of the best things this film does is that it doesn't overstay it's welcome. This film gets in then gets out and doesn't try to do too much. It has a simple story to tell about how one can become very dangerous when they project their own insecurities and issues onto others with religion and it tells it well.
This film is definitely not for everyone. But for those looking for a quick film that dives into issues that we see affect us today with deadly consequence, its worth checking out.

  • Hawkeye Season 1 Episode 4 Review - Super Tuesday Recap
It's all fun and games until a Black Widow assassin shows up. Kate was starting to make a little progress getting Clint to accept her but as soon as Yelena shows up, Clint shuts everything down because it's clearly gotten way too serious. This episode revealed a lot (while still having so many questions). This really is all about a watch. And it might just be a regular watch with nothing fancy in it. Probably a retirement gift that traces back to  Laura. And Laura is clearly not just some quiet, simple housewife. The minute Clint starts asking Laura to run things down for him, it's clear she's got deeper connections to the "game" than anyone thought. While we don't think they'll officially making her Bobbi, it wouldn't be a shock if she's a former SHIELD Agent who had the codename Mockingbird.
We also get more of what we talked about last week with Clint revealing the way he sees himself. Not as a hero but as a weapon that needs to be pointed at the right target. It's clear that Clint hasn't given himself any grace and isn't seeing himself as worthy of redemption which is even more reason why he needs it.
There's only two more episodes left and we can't wait to see how this all ends.

  • The Flash S8E4 Review - Super Tuesday Recap
Thawne proves once again that he's a master manipulator of time. He didn't just change a few things in the timeline this time, but rather decided to completely take over Barry's life and basically become him. To top it all off, he fixed a mistake from the first time he tried to stop the Flash and made sure to kill Barry as a child. Thawne really won this time and if it wasn't for Damien Darhk having a soft spot for his daughter, Barry would have been screwed.
Overall this episode was really good. There are a couple of things that didn't work (as well). First, once again the show leans super heavy on the "love being the key" theme. While it makes sense to continue to have that theme throughout this show, it felt out of place at times. We really didn't need the Chester/Allegra part with Alex playing therapist. It just felt forced and repetitive from what we were getting in other parts of the show. Also while it was nice to see Ryan Choi for the first time in the Atom costume, he really was just sitting there like we were supposed to already know his relationship with the rest of team Flash (and even his own personality). Again, none of these things take away from the overall episode but did stick out.
It will be interesting seeing how all this concludes. While Barry was able to get the timeline back to normal (including Joe), now Thawne is pissed because he's the only one allowed to manipulate time. This could be the end of the Allen/Thawne conflict.

  • Groundhog Day - Unanimous Decision #215
This was originally going to be a solo show, but I wanted to ask the hard question, and who would hold my UGA loving feet to the fire better than Nata? Even though you're all here to laugh at me, we also talk my trip to AEW Dynamite, the chaos of Championship Weekend, the Playoff to come, and even some Panthers news from North Carolina directly.

  • Hawkeye Episode 3 - Super Tuesday Recap
Kriss, Ro and Dpalm are back to discuss episode 3 of Hawkeye. We talking about the introduction of Echo (Maya) as well as the potential to bring back Fisk into the MCU. This was before the news from Feige that if Daredevil comes back to the MCU, they would not recast and would use Charlie Cox. So it's not too far fetched to think that Vincent D'onofrio's Fisk could make a return as well.
We also discuss Clint's road to redemption and why it first has to start with him thinking he deserves to be redeemed. Clint has always tried to keep his two world's separate and we see the dark path that took him on during the Blip. Natasha at least found a purpose during that time while Clint was struggling with the fact that he lost everything that he thought made him good. We'll see how this all plays out over the next three episodes.

  • The Flash S8E3 Review - Super Tuesday Recap
No Legends of Tomorrow this week (apparently the last episode was the mid-season finale) so it's only The Flash this week. We get confirmation that of course it's Thawne behind all of Barry's problems. Thawne couldn't match Barry face-to-face so now we see that he's gone to his go to: Messing with Time.
Outside of the Thawne reveal that we knew was coming there are other things we liked and are keeping an eye on. First, Cecile and her powers are probably greater than most people realize. She's not really training not user her powers so we only get glimpses of what she can do but every time she ends up going well behind what we think are her limits. Also, in the scenes with Barry and Black Lightning, we get more hints that there are things that have happened that we haven't seen since all the worlds merged. That was a nice touch.
We wrap up this episode talking about the Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse (Part One) trailer (22:49).

  • Bedlam - Unanimous Decision #214
College football giveth, but more often than not, college football taketh. Just ask Oklahoma (and now Notre Dame!) about how fast life can arrive on your doorstep. With coaches leaving blueblood programs for other blueblood programs for the first time ever, I am joined by a fan of a former blueblood program that's fighting to get back. Weep with Gators fan Justin as I struggle with an emotion not usually associated with UGA: Hope.

  • Shang-Chi Master of Kung Fu - Character Corner #97

Kriss and Dpalm are finally back with a new Character Corner episode. This time we're talking about the Marvel Master of Kung Fu himself, Shang-Chi. We decided to wait until after we talked about the movie before diving into this character and for good reason. See, there's really no nice way to say this but the history of Shang-Chi is pretty racist. From the inception of the character and tying him to the racist Fu Manchu character all the way to even more modern books with the character that rely on how "foreign" he is. Shang-Chi is a character that has really suffered from good intentions that still fall short. Outside of the varying degrees of racism, the character has also suffered from being stagnant and not growing. A lot of that has changed though with the most recent solo series for the character. In the last year or so, Shang-Chi has grown in depth and his solo books have been really great.

For this episode we do a little less going into the step-by-step history of the character and focus more on the most interesting aspects, the racism & problems that plagued the early books and why the new books really have opened up some new possibilities for the character.
