  • Wrath of Man - Movie Trailer Reviews
    The team-up of Guy Ritchie and Jason Statham for Wrath of Man comes together as a very solid film combination of revenge mixed with heist. Is the film perfect? No. But there's a solid enough story with intense, bloody action that it makes a pretty entertaining pre-summer film.
    The film follows the mysterious H (Statham) who joins an armored cash truck company in order to find the thieves who ended up killing his son as part of a prior robbery. H uses his own seedy background and connections to try to hunt down who the inside man in the cash truck company is and who the crew is that lead to the death of his son.
    Wrath of Man has all the elements we've come to love (and hate) about a Guy Ritchie film. Between this film and The Gentleman, Ritchie really is in his wheelhouse when it comes to this type of film. The suave, nearly-silent, focused and deadly man who can exact ruthless revenge on those that wrong him is clearly something Ritchie does right. He also loves making his protagonist someone who isn't necessarily a good guy but rather a bad guy with a moral code that the audience can get behind. And it works. What doesn't work is the fact that Ritchie still has problems with directing/writing female characters. Niamh Algar's Dana is criminally underused in this film and in many ways her character almost feels like a backslide for Ritchie.
    Wrath of Man is a film worth checking out. Jason Statham is...well, Jason Statham and who doesn't love Jason Statham? The action scenes are intense with the final one being so intense it makes up for the anti-climatic ending. Still, there's enough here to overcome the flaws.

  • Invincible Volume 11 to 15 - Comic Book Book Club

    One of the biggest differences between the Invincible comic series and the Amazon Prime Video adaptation is the pace. The comic really doesn't give you a chance to catch your breath. And just to be clear, that works for the comic media. In these three volumes we get so much. From the "Invincible War" to Conquest to the Viltrumite War (and a bunch of stuff in between), these 5 volumes are jammed with problems for Mark. We get to see Mark struggling with not just being a hero but how. Mark has to ask himself what kind of hero he wants to be and deal with those consequences. Should he kill the truly horrible and evil people that he's come across that have caused so much death, pain and destruction? Or is that the easy way out and there's better ways? We end volume 15 with Mark thinking there's a better way but honestly, it seems like it's just going to lead to more problems.
    Overall this has been a really great series to read while watching the TV series. It feels like each offer a really great experience that doesn't taint the other.

  • Captain America and the Winter Soldier Episode 6 Review Cap is Back - Super Tuesday Recap
    They did it. Those crazy SOBs did it. If you told me 10 years ago (hell, 5 years ago) that Sam Wilson, a Black man, would pick up the shield and mantle of Captain America in the MCU, I would have told you that was just wishful thinking. But here we are with Marvel not only putting Sam in a comic-accurate Captain America suit but changing the name of the series to the rightful, Captain America and the Winter Soldier. But not only did they do right by Sam, but they also did right by Isaiah Bradley which they absolutely did not have to do but we're so glad they did.
    Right now Marvel is 2 for 2 on their Disney+ shows and Loki is right there next in the pipeline. We can't wait to see what they have in store for us on that one. If you want to hear us discuss that series, make sure you sign up for Premium on the MTR Network as we'll be discussing the next two Marvel Disney+ series on there.

  • The Falcon and The Winter Soldier Episode 5 - Super Tuesday Recap
    The penultimate episode of The Falcon and the Winter Soldier definitely didn't go as you would expect. The "midseason trailer" that Marvel put out before it made it seem like the confrontation between Sam & Bucky and John Walker would happen later on and instead its what they open this episode up with. And it's exactly what we needed. Then Marvel decided to give us even more stuff that we didn't think we needed but definitely did. From a great conversation between Sam and Isaiah to the introduction of Valentina Allegra de Fontaine played by Julia Louis-Dreyfus. They just keep the hits coming. We all know what's in the box but still can't wait to actually see it. The only problem we're having is that we already want more. We know we're going to clearly get more but we're just being greedy now.

  • The Flash S7E7 Review Growing Pains - Super Tuesday Recap
    This episode could have really been called "You're not my Mom!" We're glad The Flash is addressing some of the small issues that we've just kinda ignored. The two big things:

    * The fact that the Speed Force picked Barry's mom as the image to present to him. It was always weird for Barry but he adjusted to it. But now with the Speed Force back, the force is clearly different and more nurturing and mother-like than it ever was. That clearly was going to have an affect on Barry and we're glad to see the show address it
    * Frost is a felon. We've been saying this for a while and it seems like the show is finally addressing this. They also made a point to clean up the fact that she never killed anyone.

    The fact that the show is addressing these things also makes us look at the things they suspiciously haven't addressed. Like where is the baby? Is it just that there's no need to remind us that Joe & Cecile have a child or is this part of a larger thing? Also...while its nice that the Speed Force is being all nurturing to Barry, still don't trust it.

  • Barry Allen and the Flash Family Part 2 - Character Corner #90

    We're finally back with part 2 of our Barry Allen and the Flash family Character Corner series. We handle this episode a little different than our typical episodes. While we still bring up issues to read, we really focus on the discussion of the evolution of the Flash and the Flash family. Particularly under Mark Waid's run. His run is really what helped define the modern take on The Flash Family and the Speed Force. This run also serves as the bridge between all of the eras of the DC Universe as Waid helped revamp and reintroduce some Golden Age characters like Max Mercury and Johnny Chambers. Waid also brings us the first appearance of Bart Allen from the 31st Century, accompanied by the return of Iris. This run really set up not only Barry's legacy but also was the perfect example of how DC characters can pass the mantle from character to character to build generational connections to characters. Wally West goes from reluctantly filling in his uncle's shoes to becoming the confident Flash for years. After his introduction in Waid's run, Bart is a founding member of Young Justice that eventually leads into another incarnation of the Teen Titans with Bart eventually taking the title Kid Flash. It all works so well...and then Geoff Johns brings back Barry Allen in Rebirth (not the latest Rebirth run). We talk about that decision and how in hindsight it might not have been a wise one and also represents a core problem with DC's approach to their characters.
    Issues:

    * The Flash Volume 2 - Mark Waid's Run

    * Issues #74 - 79: The Return of Barry Allen

    * Issue #76: Reintroduction of Max Mercury

    * Issue #91: First cameo appearance of Bart Allen
    * Issue #92: First full appearance of Bart Allen
    * Issues #95 - 100: Terminal Velocity

    * First appearance of the Speed Force

    * Young Justice Volume 1 (1998)
    * Teen Titans Volume 3
    * The Flash Fastest Man Alive
    * New 52 Flash

    * Flash Annual #3 - First appearance of Wallace West

  • The Falcon and The Winter Soldier Episode 4 Review - Super Tuesday Recap
    They say Black women will change your life. I'm not sure John Walker having an existential crisis after the Dora Milaje whooped his ass is what folks had in mind with that saying but damn if it ain't true. Sam and Bucky knew they ain't want no trouble with Ayo or the Dora Milaje but John Walker's ass needed to be handed to him for him to understand that just because he has the title and shield of Captain America, he can still catch them hands.
    Episode 4 really solidifies why Sam is the one Steve gave the shield to and why he's the one that needs to carry. And not just because Walker got caught in 4K murdering someone with the shield. This episode also went back to lean on how we first met Sam. That he's worked with veterans that suffer from PTSD and that he can sympathize with Karli  cause and motives but not her methods. The fact that his first instinct is to try to talk to her and sympathize instead of just dismissing her concerns and cause like John felt very Steve Rogers. It was also great how this episode showed Sam as the only one who would turn down the serum because he knows he doesn't need it to be a hero. Karli felt she needed the serum and to give it to more people because that power would finally make those in power take her demands seriously. While sympathetic, it's a flawed position. And John? Well John thinks the only thing keeping him from getting the respect Steve had is the serum, not realizing he doesn't have any of Steve's character.
    These episodes continue to get better. We've also officially reached the territory where we're sad that there are only 2 more episodes left. Marvel has really hit us hard with their first two Disney+ series and if they keep this up, the sky is the limit.

  • The Flash S7E6 The One with the Nineties - Super Tuesday Recap
    The Flash Season 7 Episode 6, The One With the Nineties feels like a personal attack. We don't know what the writers were thinking but reminding us about how long ago the 90's were was completely uncalled for. Also, people didn't dress like they do in this episode in 1998. Now if the setting was 1992, we'd have something less to complain about. Either way, this episode was an attack and we demand an immediate apology for reminding us how old we really are.
    Anyway, this episode introduces us to another one of the new forces, The Still Force. It also serves as a way for us to learn more about Chester who is really the only member of Team Flash that we don't know a lot about. We also have some questions about the Speed Force and if it's telling all that it knows to the team. And we also think that the new Wells might have more to do with this new force even though he doesn't make an appearance.

  • Snowpiercer Season 2 Episodes 9 & 10 Review - Movie Trailer Reviews
    Everyone out there has something that is widely accepted as bad and not good that they like. You know that show or movie you can't defend as being "good" but nonetheless you can't help but watch it. In a way. Snowpiercer is what we (Kriss & Ro) consider their "trashy TV". Is it good? Probably not. But it's also very very entertaining and well, who is going to turn away from the (no pun intended) train wreck.
    To be fair, Snowpiercer isn't really a bad show by any stretch of the imagination. However, by the end of season 2 we can't help but some things were rushed and handled poorly which would have made this show much better. I don't know if COVID affected the end of season 2 of Snowpiercer or not. We've seen this happen before with The Flash. But this is a season that felt like we should have either ended at episode 8 or gone a full 13 episodes. The last two episodes feel like they rushed through some of the set up for the very end. After seeing Wilford take over the train and see all the support he had on Snowpiercer, it seemed a bit odd we didn't get more of the other side and those on Big Alice that support Layton. Because he got back across the border way too easy after he escaped the swamp. Also the stuff with Audrey was a big miss and disappointment. If you're going to do a storyline with a female abuse victim being manipulated back to being under the spell of her abuser, you have to treat that way more delicately than this season did.
    Overall, we did find this season entertaining but we do think it's time for the show to make a decision as to whether it's trying to live in the shadow of the movie and have a story that leads to that. Or if it wants to blaze its own trail. Right now it feels the show is being hampered by the indecision of what the show wants to be. We hope that next season gets back on track and doesn't lose sight of things (like the Tail).

  • The Falcon and the Winter Soldier Episode 3 Review - Super Tuesday Recap
    First and foremost, congrats to Dpalm for his cameo as the bartender in this episode (Its not really him).
    This episode continues to build out not only the characters of Sam & Bucky but the entire MCU world post blip. So much so that some of us even believe that Sharon has fallen so far that she's now the super secret Power Broker. And while that might seem like a big departure for the character, what Marvel is doing with the universe post-blip makes it a possibility.
    The other thing this show is doing is showing us the progression of Sam not only needing to pick up the shield but coming to the realization that he's the only one that can. We see John Walker getting all the disrespect he deserves and not understanding that just because he's been named Captain America and has the shield, it doesn't mean he gets the respect. And on the other side, Karli is showing that just because you have a noble cause and the power of a super soldier, it doesn't make you less of a mass murderer. On top of all that, making the legacy of the current super soldier serum tie back to Isaiah, the forgotten Black super soldier, the table is being set for Sam to pick up the shield.
    Also, gotta love Zemo (unless you're from Wakanda). We know we can't trust him but so far...he's not been wrong. Of course Ayo showing up at the end of this episode is clearly gonna complicate things for Bucky (Unless that was always his plan).
