Are you stuck at the gathering point on your spiritual journey? Do you feel like you have grown over the last few years? Or, do you feel like you think, act, and live exactly as you did when you first became a believer? Are you really growing and changing as a person?
It is easy to fall into the mindset that reduces discipleship to simply coming to church occasionally on Sundays. That, however, is not real growth. If our journey does not lead beyond simply gathering into real spiritual growth, we are missing out on the best that God has for us!
Our second Discipleship Pathway is Growing. Investing time and presence into Bible Study, home fellowship, Discipleship Mentoring, or other teaching opportunities is well worth it as we move beyond being just spiritual babies and into dynamic and powerful spiritual adulthood.

God invites us to gather together often to encourage one another, support each other, and worship together. I can certainly praise God alone at home and find that meaningful, but it will never replace the full experience of worshipping side by side with a sea of other voices! I can have a coffee and sweet treat alone in my apartment, and it’s nice. It, however, does not compare to the energy and sweetness of fellowshipping with others after church. God created us to be in fellowship, gathered together before His holy throne.
Our first Discipleship Pathway is Gathering. Regularly, consistently, faithfully, we are called by God to gather TOGETHER in His presence! And what an absolute joy it truly is!

For Jesus, however, this was no wrong turn. It was a deliberate course change that He embraced with power and purpose. It is a journey that led Him far beyond the echoing cheers and right into the darkest day of suffering and death. His purpose? YOU! For you He took this turn and journeyed to the cross.

In the dark, we try to get away with things we think no one will ever see. God sees. God is light. We are children of the Light. Let us walk in the light of Christ always. We cannot afford to stumble around in the dark any longer.

Today we wrestle with the sin of having all the bits and pieces of religion, yet still lacking the Spirit which gives new life. ☝
We can know all of the scriptures, go to church, serve on a team, and even give financially. None of this, however, will save us. 😔
God seeks to bring real spiritual life to our dry bones – a life that comes by grace through faith! 🙏

• Are we guilty of the sin of losing trust? During times of testing (Massah) we often argue (Meribah) with God, accusing Him of letting us down or abandoning us. We are so focused on the outward and visible signs of struggle, trouble, despair that we cannot believe anything else is possible. So, in our sinfulness, we take matters into our own hands and try to rely on our own strength. It never works out.
• The real problem is that we cannot see what God sees. We cannot imagine the provisions He has prepared for us. He is able to bring water from the rock, and satisfy your soul. Only trust Him, and He will lead you to streams of living water.

How often do we quickly fall to the pressures of temptation? We fail. We give in. We sin. Then, we cry out, make a big show of sorrow, and promise to never do it again–only to turn around and commit the same act. God does not want our showy acts of contrition! “Tear your heart, not your clothes…” He desires that we yield to the Spirit and open ourselves to true transformation.
True, we will never be sinless. Thank God for Grace and for Jesus’ sacrifice upon the cross! However, are we even trying? Do we strive for it? Christ, in the wilderness, demonstrates His power over temptation. Christ is dwelling in us! We are more than conquerors! Lent is a time to take our sin seriously and seek transformation in Christ!
