Mumbrellacast: Alan Jones vs advertisers, Kellogg’s finally finds media, plus The Guardian visits the studio

Listen Later

This week, a host of brands announced that they would be withdrawing their advertising from 2GB’s breakfast program with Alan Jones, after he made comments on air the previous week about New Zealand Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern. The team sat down to discuss if the advertisers were really gone for good, and if Jones would actually get axed in the inevitable reoccurrence of this event – like 2GB has threatened.
Also this week, after five days in the job, new Seven CEO James Warburton fronted up to investors and the media to discuss the $444.4m loss the broadcaster posted. The 2020 Olympics are on the horizon, but how will Warburton steer the Seven ship into a more profitable direction?
Also arising this week, Kellogg’s finally appointed Zenith as its media agency after a pitch process shrouded in controversy. After being called out by Mat Baxter on stage at Mumbrella360, and publicly rejected by agency bosses, Kellogg’s has taken a hit to its reputation and Zenith, too, is paying the price.
Plus, The Guardian Australia’s managing director Dan Stinton, and editor Lenore Taylor, visited the Mumbrellacast studio to chat to Brittney Rigby and Hannah Blackiston about how they are making an impact on the Australian media landscape. Stinton and Taylor discussed what it actually means to be a progressive platform, The Guardian’s reader donation model, the fall out of the ACCC report and whether they will ever sign a content deal with Facebook.
