Mumbrellacast: Foxtel revolutionises yet again, the industry reflects on R U OK? Day, plus Shutterstock’s Lou Weiss

Listen Later

This week, Foxtel announced three more ‘revolutionary’ changes, including Multi-Channel Network’s rebrand to Foxtel Media, four new Fox-branded channels and shorter ad breaks. Editor Vivienne Kelly and senior media report Hannah Blackiston sit down to chat about “the world’s most enthusiastic CEO”, Foxtel’s Patrick Delany’s, presentation on how these changes will take the subscription TV provider into its next stage of life.
Ten’s Pilot Week went to air, and Roxy Jacenko’s I Am Roxy came out on top with 399,000 metro viewers. It was the highest rating pilot for 2019, and also narrowly missed 2018’s Pilot Week episode of Kinney Tonight which received 404,000. The team discusses if Ten’s Pilot Week really lives up the grandeur of the US television networks’ version, and how many of this year’s shows will make it across the line.
This episode of the Mumbrellacast was recorded on R U OK? Day, and the team reflects on the meaning of this day for an industry in which mental health issues are particularly prevalent. The Australian Radio Network’s broadcasters took 10 seconds of silence on the hour, every hour, and The Works teamed up with the movement to create a Google voice action to help people navigate tough conversations. But how can the industry do more to improve the mental health of its members? How can we move beyond lip service to actual outcomes?
Plus, at Mumbrella’s B2B Marketing Summit last week, Vivienne Kelly sat down with Shutterstock’s chief marketing officer Lou Weiss to talk about how the company found it had over 200 clips of swimming pigs when it created its infamous Fyre Festival campaign. Weiss also discussed the biggest challenges facing marketers, how story telling is key to each and every brand, and why he can not manage to get his own photos into Shutterstock’s library.
