Marquis Jaylen Brown, known to friends and family as Jaylen or JB, died under mysterious circumstances on the night of October 4th, 2018. Police were called to Duquesne University to check on Jaylen, who seemed to be in distress. Campus police say that soon after they arrived to his dorm room, he jumped out the 16th story window to his death, completely unprovoked. 

When Jaylen's mother, Dannielle Brown, heard about the incident, she was shocked and confused by the incredible story. The details didn't seem to add up, and when she tried to hire an investigator to help, they were met with nothing but dead ends. 
All while processing the fresh trauma of losing her son, Dannielle shone a light through the cracks in a system that let her down and pledged to bridge those gaps with a new foundation in her late son's name. 

We had the pleasure of chatting with Dannielle about her 237 day hunger strike in a fight for answers about her son's death, and how she plans to build a support system for students in crisis and their mothers, to prevent another tragedy from happening on campus.

Aurora's is the story of 45 year old Mary Stella Gomez-Mulett, who went missing on February 18, 2021. After her husband had a too-perfect explanation for every line of questioning the police pursued, they finally discovered her remains last Friday, March 5th. Hear more about the couple's quid pro quo marriage, husband Roberto Colon's strange excuses and his eventual arrest, and how Mary's body was found all in this episode.

When 8-weeks pregnant Kelsie Schelling went missing back in 2013, her boyfriend Danthe Lucas also had a long list of excuses. But Danthe's story was ever-changing, as he played cat-and-mouse with Colorado investigators. After his arrest in 2017, a number of bizarre twists and turns delayed the trial time and again, until he was finally convicted of first degree murder this past Monday, March 8th. Kelsie's body has yet to be discovered, so true closure still looms for her devastated parents.

Aurora gives us the scoop on the little talked about but fascinating to hear about serial killer, Roger Kibbe, also known as the I-5 Strangler. The California killer met his end in prison just last week on February 28th. But his crimes date back to at least the 70s. Aurora talks about his confirmed victims, what tied them together, the murderer's M.O., and how he was caught.

Angelina has a story that is eerily similar to one of our earlier episodes, although we're always hearing about how rare and unexpected these types of events are. Hunter Chenoweth murdered 3 relatives in their family home in Arkansas, and then fled the scene, abducting his infant nephew to join him in a statewide road trip. But they were intercepted by state troopers. Hear about how this whole mess started, and how the surviving members of Hunter's large blended family are dealing with the aftermath.

Aurora fills us in on the case of Alexis Murphy, a murder story eight years in the making.
Alexis was just 17 years old when she seemingly disappeared in 2013. She was last seen by her family at their home in Shipman, Virginia, as she was leaving to run some errands. Some grainy surveillance footage and a trail of Alexis' belongings and DNA led authorities to the man who was ultimately charged with her murder, but Alexis' body was never found... until December 2020. Due to the state of decomposition and other factors, police couldn't comfirm the ID of the body as Alexis Murphy until this week. The details of this case are still unfolding, but it's nice to know Alexis' family can finally find some closure after this discovery.

Angelina's is a story just eight months in the making. But after several months in the desert, all that was left to discover is skeletal remains. Understanding the disappearance and death of 37-year-old Erika Lloyd is made all the more difficult by the mysterious location of her death - Joshua Tree National Park, and the strange set of evidence we're presented with.
It isn't clear if this is the story of a murder, an accident, or something else altogether.

Aurora tells us everything she knows about the disappearance of Noemi Bolivar after spending a few days on web sleuthing forums dedicated to the case. Noemi is a 21-year-old woman on the autism spectrum who was reported missing by her parents after she didn't come home from a hike at a nature preserve not far from their home in Hollywood, Florida. She was last heard from in a Snapchat the day she disappeared, and because it is so unlike her to wander off, her family fears she may have been kidnapped.
The search for Noemi Bolivar is ongoing, so listen up and take notes!
And if you know anything at all that could aid investigators in their search, please call the Hollywood Police Department at 954-967-4636.

Angelina covers the timeline that police pieced together from scrap paper and receipts found in the jacket pocket of a woman whose dead body was discovered roadside on the I80 East on Sunday February 7th. The body was discovered by a snow plow driver, riddled with bullets (Union County coroner removed 18 in total), and clothed but without shoes, socks, or any identification. Police identified the woman by her fingerprints as 47-year-old Rebecca Landrith, a former model who was taking a step back from the limelight. She was traveling under an alias when she met and befriended the truck driver who would eventually be charged with her murder. How things got so out of hand is still such a mystery, but we are just amazed by the fact that police were able to identify a body, trace the victim's path across the northeastern united states, and find her killer, all using bits of paper from her pocket!

This week, Aurora and Angelina got the chance to interview their own true crime hero, Jerri Williams. Murder Murder News is thrilled to shine a light on this incredible lady during Black History Month, because Jerri sure made history when she joined the FBI as one of very few black women in the 1980s! She worked as a special agent for the FBI, a spokesperson for the Philadelphia FBI office, and the Director of Media Relations for SEPTA before retiring from the FBI after 26 years. But she didn’t stop there — Jerri now has 4 crime books under her belt, and she’s the host of the hit podcast Retired FBI Case Files. 
 
Jerri opened up about what it was like moving through her career as a woman of colour, and offered words of encouragement for young women and people of colour who might like to pursue a career with the FBI. She shared highlights and insights from different milestone moments in her career, and things she has gleaned from the many interviews she has conducted on her podcast, where she chats exclusively with retired FBI agents.

Aurora tells the haunting story of a loving mother vanished from her family home in an affluent neighborhood in Chula Vista, California in early January. Maya Millete was last seen in her home by her family, when she allegedly locked herself inside a downstairs bedroom after an argument with her husband. When they finally unlocked the door a day later, she was gone. 
Officially, we are just gobsmacked by the mystery of it all, and we have no idea what could have possibly happened to Maya. On Speculation Corner, we have a few ideas.
What was that classic idiom? Oh yes, It's always the husband. Not sure what brought that to mind.

Angelina dug in to duck culture, complete with a study of an excellent article of Field & Stream magazine, and a stint on the Duck Hunter's Refuge forum. What on earth would inspire her to do such a thing? After a double homicide on Reelfoot Lake in northwestern Tennessee led to a nearly week-long manhunt of a so-called armed and dangerous 70-year-old duck hunting fugitive, who himself wound up dead in the water when investigators finally located him... We began to suspect there's some drama in the duck hunt!
Turns out the duck hunting community is rife with machismo and even violent altercations. Shocking.

We were feeling extra chatty this week, so enjoy an extra long episode! We’ll tell you how all your 90’s crushes were and continue to be toxic, but that we still enjoy a good old 90’s cat-and-mouse detective drama nonetheless.

The youngest victim of the Green River Killer was finally identified, 37 years after her body was found. Aurora talks about her case, and goes into detail about some of the killer’s other victims — particularly the youngest of the bunch who were all under 18 years old. 

Last weekend a teenage boy carried out a mass murder in Indianapolis, leaving six people dead in his family home, and the one survivor badly wounded. Angelina explains how this could have happened, and why mass shootings like this seem to be happening more and more frequently these days both in Indiana and across America. (Spoiler alert: the ongoing worldwide pandemic crisis hasn’t helped!) 

Both of today’s stories are centred around young people, but which will be memorialized for having had “potential?” Food for thought.

Aurora and Angelina of MurderMurder.news have had one wild ride of a first year -- they built a comprehensive website, their weekly YouTube series 'This Week in True Crime,' and a dedicated social media following. The goal for 2021 is to break in to the podcast realm, and this is MMN's maiden voyage: The First Episode.

This is a deeper dive into the ladies' respective cases they described on This Week in True Crime. Aurora talks more about the death penalty and the record number of executions the Trump administration has overseen in comparison to any other presidency since the 1800s.
