One of the pillars of the Remnant Fellowship Church is submission. Submission to God, a wife's submission to her husband, and a child's submission to their parents. If children aren't submissive and obedient and quiet, the Remnant Fellowship recommends corporal punishment. At the church's advice, Sonya and Joseph Smith put their 8-year-old son, Josef, through a series of atrocious punishments. In 2003, Josef finally succumbed to his brutal injuries. Ex-members of the cult suggest that the group's leaders should be held responsible for their negligent advice. Instead the group persists, and continues to perpetuate a toxic cycle of abuse.

Today marks the twelfth anniversary of the murder of Jennifer Lee Daugherty by the Greensburg 6. The Greensburg 6 were a group of people led by a close friend of Jennifer, who tortured their victim over the course of two days before violently murdering her and attempting to stage it as a suicide. The group took advantage of 30-year-old Jennifer, whose mother described her as having the mental capacity of a teenager.

One year ago today, on February 4th 2021, Alexander Blake VanDalsen was reported missing. Five days later, Alex's body was found 10 miles from his home in Lafayette, Indiana. Authorities were quick to rule his death a suicide, but the details just don't add up. We spoke with Alex's mother, Jennifer VanDalsen, who is still fighting for justice for her son. She shared some major red flags from both the investigation and the autopsy report, and explored some possible reasons why neither the media nor law enforcement seem to be taking Alex's case seriously. Alex was a trans man, could there be transphobia at play? Or is this simply a case of lazy investigators?

Today marks five years since the disappearance of Elaine Park. The 20-year-old student and actress was last seen leaving her boyfriend's home in Calabasas, California early in the morning. When Breana Noojin Nix was found dead in her bathroom in March of 2020, her husband Steven Nix had an explanation for everything. But Steven's stories were full of holes. He suggested his wife had died of an accidental overdose, after hiding a secret drug problem from everyone she knew. Brittany Noojin knew that would have been completely out of character for her sister, and also knew that Steven would lean on his connections to evade suspicion. Steven's uncle is a Deputy at the Hayden Police Department, which has a reputation for being a real boy's club. Nearly two years after losing her sister, Brittany continues to fight for Justice for Breana, as the authorities seemingly try to sweep this whole thing under the rug.

Today in true crime history, on January 14th 1964, the González sisters, Guinness World Record holders for Most Prolific Murder Partnership, were arrested after a reign of terror that killed over 91 people. The sisters, known locally as Las Poquianchis, operated a brothel in Mexico called Guadalajara de Noche, which housed around a dozen captive girls between the ages of 13-17 at the time of their arrest. Authorities soon found that the squalid conditions these girls were kept in was only the tip of the iceberg!

On November 22nd 2016, 20-year old Sarah Butler was murdered by Khalil Wheeler-Weaver, now known as the Dating App Killer.  The serial killer had already claimed the lives of two prior victims that year and attempted to murder a third, Tiffany Taylor. In fact, his spree could have been cut short and Sarah's murder prevented if only authorities had taken Tiffany seriously when she reported the attack. Wheeler-Weaver targeted black women and sex workers, and was confident that he could continue to get away with it. But these women mattered, and when he went to trial the Judge ensured the killer's sentencing reflected that.
