Murderology

This week we wrap up the harrowing tale of the Cleveland Kidnappings. We talk about the birth of Jocelyn Berry, the story of escape, and the end of Ariel Castro. The sound does get louder after the beginning so please hang in there. 

This week we talk about one of the most unimaginable stories of survival, the Cleveland Kidnappings. On August 21st, 2002, Michelle Knight was kidnapped by Ariel Castro, the father of one of her friends. She would endure 11 years of torture that could make up the scariest of horror movies. In 2003, she was joined in her capture by Amanda Berry and lastly, Gina DeJesus was kidnapped by Ariel Castro in 2004. The story that follows is one of torture, abuse, but also hope. The Cleveland Kidnappings are not stories about victims, but about survivors. 

Rachel tells Dustin two stories this week- that of the horrible murder of Maddie Clifton and the double murders committed by Mary Bell. Both cases show that not every child is innocent and not every case is handled the same in court. Maddie Clifton was just 8 years old when she went missing for 7 days, only for the family to realize she was much closer than they could have imagined- her body was under a waterbed just across the street.

When two young boys are found strangled in the 1960s in England, the killer isn't what any one would have been able to suspect. 

Tyler Hadley was just 17 years old when he carried out the double murder of his parents, Blake and Mary Jo Hadley, on July 16th, 2011 in the small town of Port St Lucie, Florida. It seems like there was only one motive and it was to throw a house party. 

Rachel is joined by a new co host, fellow true crime nerd and friend Melissa to start the story of the West Memphis Three. Three 8 year old boys are found mutilated in a swamp and the investigation immediately zeroes in on a theory about Satanic Cults, even though there was no evidence to suggest such an occurrence. Three teenage boys, supposedly lead by Damien Echols, become the prime suspects in this horrific case of criminal injustice, discrimination of the poor, and the still unsolved murders of Christopher Byers, Stevie Branch, and Michael Moore. 

Rachel and Dustin cover the coincidence filled unsolved triple homicide at Lake Bodom on June 5th, 1960. Three teenagers were found brutally bludgeoned and stabbed to death, and one barely clinging to life with no memory of the event. 60 years later, there has been one arrest but no convictions for this mysterious event. 

Better late than never right? This week Rachel and Dustin discuss the brutal slaying of Jayna Murray and attack of her co-worker Brittany Norwood that launched the suburb of Bethesda into a terror thinking the killers were wreaking havoc on their quiet community. Like most murder stories, this one is not what it seems. 

This week, Rachel and Dustin discuss the baffling case of the Missing Panama Girls. On April 1st, 2014, two youthful and aspiring women named Lisanne Froon and Kris Kremers went hiking in the forest of Panama, never to be seen again. The phone records show them helplessly dialing emergency numbers to no avail and the photos recovered from a camera only adds to the mystery.
