September 05, 2021Free Music Lesson with Sarnia Suzuki Book 1 French Folk Song Modern LearningFree Music Lesson with Sarnia Suzuki Book 1 French Folk Song Modern Learning.hey little ones welcome to um french folk song suzuki method book one i haven't um i haven't uploaded for a while because i've been so busy i've been doing a lot of performances and such like so i've been really really crazy busy but i want to really have quite an in-depth lesson today about this this lovely little piece it's also in the suzuki piano as well actually but they are using a different key to us so we can't really play together unless you're very good at transposing what transposing means is that you change the key so you're playing the same spaces between the notes but different notes do you see the same intervals but you're moving to a different starting point and that's all about the root note of the key so the pianists for suzuki i'm doing those as well um there theirs is in c major uh i think it's c major uh because for pianists c major is the easiest and for cellists debatably d nature is the easiest for us the easiest to start with um and that's just uh to do with really the way our hands work and the way that our instruments are set up because the piano has all those black notes so anywayfind your d now first of all are you tuned that's the first thing isn't it always always tune so should we just when you tune up do you know what's a really good thing to do after you've chewed once you know you've got the right note it's a really good warm-up just to take the bow and just hold the bow in the middle with your left hand to let it balance okay just let it balance there and just feel where your center of gravity on that bow is my mine is uh about a third of the way up interesting isn't it it's not halfway uh up at all that's because your fog is really heavy so now i just want you to hold the bow with your right hand and your left and just drop it on the string just drop it there don't let go you don't want to let me don't want it on the floor but just drop it and just feel the gravity holding it attaching it now take your left hand off now look you don't have to have stiff hands to hold this bow do you let gravity do all the work for you look chenists rely a lot on gravity we love gravity look it's just so much easier if wei'm hardly touching the bow i promise you all the workis being done by gravity now that's the g string let's try the c stringi hit my music stand there so that was rather unfortunate but uh you need a lot of space to be a cellist we're all over the place all the way to the tip feel the gravity it's interesting isn't it what happens when we maneuver our arms bodies hands everything still keeping our bow straight but we go to that d string remember to look in the mirror if you can i really do advise a mirror i don't think you're going to benefit unless you use a mirror at least from time to time to check this bow is straight or you can film yourself on your phones we all like doing that these days now just pop that bowon that d string where's the gravity now well it depends doesn't it because if it's on the tip where's the gravity is it is it more in the base by the frog or is it work it out where where is the gravity where's the pull well of course the pull is going to the tip isn't it and you could easily fall forward and i've got uh if i fell forward with my bow i'd end up in my the capped ball so i don't want to do that so we've got to think about when we when we're doing the a and the d strings we need a bit more pullingbut look if you you've still got gravity to some degree but also you've got momentum once you startkeep the momentum going where's that dimension coming from what do i mean it's coming from the energy that you kicked off with hereand it's coming from your back okay so bring it from your back and keep it nice and steady it's difficult to keep steady when you're talkingit's why......more22minPlay
