Suzi Ronson gives us a first hand account of the Ziggy Stardust years she spent with David Bowie from creating the iconic Ziggy haircut & costumes, the early days at Haddon Hall in Beckenham, hearing Starman for the first time, touring America with the Spiders, the UK tours leading up to the final performance at the Hammersmith Odeon in 1973.
We start in 1971 when Suzi cuts David Bowie’s Mums hair in a salon in Beckenham, shortly after she first sees David Bowie walking down Beckenham High Street wearing a dress.
Suzi meets Angie Bowie shortly after & visits their home Haddon Hall & cut David Bowie’s hair into the iconic Ziggy Stardust style on that very night. She meet future husband Mick Ronson around this time.
The Hunk Dory album comes out & soon after David also debuts the Ziggy Stardust character at a gig at the Toby Jug in Tolworth. Shortly after Angie & David invite Suzi to come & work for them full time.
The Ziggy Stardust tour goes all over the country & Bowie somehow finds time to produce Transformers for Lou Reed.
The Ziggy character is a sensation in the USA & also travels to Japan before the Aladdin Sane album comes out in April of 1973. The final leg of the tour is over more than 50 dates across the UK before the famous final show at Hammersmith Odeon.
