Music Promotion & Events

The global dance music craze is in full swing with parties on every outcropping of rock. Clubbedrs want to dance (and sometimes, just stare at DJs) and as such, they want to know what music will be played. But that is not why we chase music and the very personal release of our spirits. We come for the surprise; the added dimension of every great night. Underground music sets bend genres and styles to produce an audio experience of excitement. When it is too new for the mainstream, great music always has a place in the underground. While the world has constructed a framework to make dance music predictable, sellable, The Reverend's music selection has remained both unique and inspiring.

Look no further for the energy boost to take you thru year end. This week's mix kicks 2023 to the curb and sets the stage for a perfect night in clubland. In a powerful and highly professional effort Chris delivers four on the floor with stylish details and the highest fidelity. Tons of nuance in the mix with mids and highs; light acid patterns and smooth, long pads. The kick and surrounding percussion are bubbly and underground. The first hour gives way to sweet loft filled sweet voice and suggestions. The deep chill isn't long as the last 45 minutes brings a progressive corker home to roost.

'Variety is the spice of life' couldn't ask for a better spotlight. Newcomer to our podcast, Dj Cogg serves up a dance set with no stops. A house intro gives way to a live sounding and serious funk. The energy continues to gain pace and emotion with deep house tunes; with no shortage of smooth genres changes. The depth charge really hits later as Cogg carries over acid elements through a darker progressive storm and into a smooth mellow vibe to wind down floor. Super thoughtful set.

Music constantly evolves style. Both in advance of, and as a response to civilized society. While many DJs sit back and ride a single style to garner attention, Nigel John (here under his Blacksuede moniker) takes a deliberately different approach. He brings it all. This willingness to meld diversity in one set, is truly rare among DJs. And his latest residence at Proper in Orlando is a hallmark. In a purely vinyl format, Nigel moves effortlessly across styles, captivating moods, and challenging the listeners to ditch expectations and open their minds. A collection for the ages.

The summer vibe isn't over, and for the lands down under let this episode be an emotional prelude to spring. The first half is a bit of a genre-buster. It has all the energy of Dante's staple disco vibe but with tons of unique sounds in the rhythm. Bright like the sun. At the half, the set takes on some more serious underground vibes. Some basslines become more atmospheric with tones that are thick and even somber. But like the heat of the day, the fun dance vibe lives on throughout.

When FreedaSol tells you it is her funkiest mix yet, it is gonna be fun.  Right out of the gate the tracks are modern funk with elements plucked from dance music history.  Once the vibe is ignited there is no time wasted to push on through a number of styles; yes its even got soul.  The vocals come and go in full presentation and snippets giving the set plenty of voice.  Classic and fresh vibes all the way.

Electronic music when mixed well, can transcend time.  For more than thirty minutes the mix delivers audio with deep and sublime changes through an organic style.  Once the scene is entirely separated from reality, a sweet drift gives way to more bubbling basslines and colorful sounds.  One foot on the gas and another on his paintbrush, Scott drives the mix almost endlessly in a progressive house train of high-q style.  Scott's artful dagger makes an unmistakable point; 120 minutes feels like one.

Orlando music culture continues to grow and inspire.  Sean Samaroo's live sets at Monkey Bar represent a great mix of what is de facto fun in the Florida house music scene.  He has keen ear to keep the sound open and housey early with some funky vibes.  Later he moves deftly through a few styles to more banging progressive.  As the night unfolds, he transitions those genres with bridges of style and consideration.  We used to call these "journeys by DJs"; time to get up.
