  • GTIN UPC and Brand Registry updates 2021

I have been talking about brand registry on Amazon for some time now; OK, it’s been over two years. I am going to say I told you so, but also follow that up with a hug. I have been branded on Amazon since 2015. I genuinely believe it helps protect your account, brand, and everything else as an Amazon seller. I know some of you will be thinking, ‘I don’t want a brand; I don’t want to sign up for that.’ So, let’s talk about what having a brand registry means and why it’s important to you, especially if you use Amazon bundles as part of your business model.

It’s not something you need to be scared of... but it’s something you should be aware of.

Today, I talk about the current issues many of you are having when trying to list bundles with your GTIN exemptions. I explain what is happening regarding the brand registry on Amazon right now and what we can expect to become part of their policy. I explore the differences between brand approval and brand registry and what Amazon is currently accepting for you to be considered brand registered. I share why these brand registry requirements are great for your business and how you can create your brand bundles. I also share some good news coming from GS1 about UPCs as well as some great resources you can use for affordable custom packaging.

“What Amazon wants to verify is that you’re a legitimate brand; and legitimate brands usually have trademarks and custom packaging.” - Kristin Ostrander

  • Retail Arbitrage Updates

I know a lot of you are using the retail arbitrage business model to build your Amazon business. I used to do it, too. It was the foundation of my business for many years and there is certainly profit in it. However, when you go to a store, there is no guarantee that you will find products to fill your cart.  There are some pitfalls, most notably: time and business limitations. Things have changed for 2021 and some new policies coming from Amazon that you need to know.

So let’s talk about retail arbitrage and how this can, should, or shouldn’t fit into your business model so you can build your business in the best way that suits you.

Today, I share how my journey with Amazon started in retail arbitrage and some of the successes I have had with it. I explore the art of retail arbitrage and some of the challenges I faced when using this business model. I highlight the main limitations of retail arbitrage and why it can take up more of your time as your Amazon business scales. I reveal how you can get yourself out of the retail arbitrage trap and explore some of the new Amazon selling rules on cash register receipts and brand restrictions. I also share why we moved our Amazon business into wholesale bundling and how you can find wholesalers to partner with and build your own Amazon bundles.

“If you are doing all the work and doing all the things all the time, then you’re just building yourself a different job.” - Kristin Ostrander

  • Exploring Private Label Options with Stephen Somers

Around seven years ago, Stephen Somers started his path towards building an amazing Ecommerce business by Googling “how to build an online business.” What he found was an abundance of terrible courses. Real knowledge on expanding an Amazon business later came when he met his mentor and eventual business partner, Robert Rickey, with whom he co-founded Market Superheroes, an online education and services company.Robert and Stephen have sold over $12 million in products and have helped over 8,000 people start, run, and grow their Amazon businesses by selling products worldwide.

Stephen joins me today to explore different private label options with Amazon. He discusses how an Amazon entrepreneur can earn a large income by selling niche, non-brand items on Amazon. He defines the “Amazon iceberg principle,” explains the Rule of Five and how to apply it in an Amazon business, and describes his unique product research process. He also underscores the value of diversifying an Amazon business and highlights the importance of being part of an Amazon community.

“There are many ways to sell on Amazon. But more importantly, whether you’re doing wholesale bundling or private label, look at what you want to get from your business.” - Stephen Somers

    • The importance of putting customers head-on when conducting product research

  • It's Time

We make a lot of excuses just to put off the thing we said we’re going to do to reach our goals. We say things like, “I don’t have the time!” But in reality, what really makes many of us procrastinate from taking the next step to our dreams are fears and assumptions. We fear that, because we failed the last time we took a risk, we’re going to fail again. We assume how our stories are going to go. We keep old labels that hinder us from achieving our success.

It’s time to change the narrative.

In this episode, I discuss the overwhelm that we feel and how we put off our goals and dreams. I share tools to help you overcome fears and assumptions and explain how writing your In a Perfect World scenario can help you move towards your goals. I describe our tendency to take care of everyone and everything else - our families, homes, businesses - but never ourselves. I also underscore the importance of taking care of our physical, mental, and spiritual health and highlight the role of practice in achieving our dreams.

“It’s time to put aside the excuses, put your feet to the fire, and take some action. Your goals are worth it. Your ‘In A Perfect World’ is worth it.” - Kristin Ostrander

  • The Key to 7 Figures - It's NOT Wholesale Bundles

Throwback to 2010: A week after I had my third child, my husband got injured at work. The only income that we had was my eBay and Amazon online businesses, and they certainly weren’t enough to feed a family of five. Soon enough, we ended up losing our home because of foreclosure. Fast forward to today, I run a seven-figure online Amazon business while working from home.

But how did I get from foreclosure to millions of dollars in Amazon revenue?

    What’s the secret sauce?

In today’s episode, I share how I went from losing what I thought was our forever home to earning over $1-million in Amazon revenue. I explain how taking small and consistent steps can yield significant, powerful results, and why not all consistent steps are beneficial. I underscore the importance of planning for your business and describe how change can pave the way for business growth. I also discuss how fear prevents us from growing, both in life and business, and share some questions you can ask yourself to help you overcome these business fears.

“Growth is not possible without change. You have to be willing to pivot and not quit.” - Kristin Ostrander

    • Why I was fearful of outsourcing tasks and getting a prep center

  • 22 Year old Entrepreneur Noah Bindschatel Tells All

While getting a college degree is great, it’s not what it takes to be successful. Take Noah Bindschatel. A self-made entrepreneur at 22 years old, Noah is busting through the “traditional” pathway society pressures young people to take: the path that forces the young generation to go to college, incur student loans worth hundreds and thousands of dollars, and get jobs that shackle them from doing what they find meaningful. Today, Noah is the Head Ambassador for Customer Service at MyPrepCenter, an Amazon prep center that he runs with his family. Noah - armed with grit and faith - is proof that you don’t have to have a college degree to be successful in life - or to be successful in running an Amazon business.

He reveals one of the most challenging parts about being self-employed at a young age and describes how the idea of freedom motivates him. He also underscores the role of faith in business and entrepreneurship and highlights what it means to become a servant-leader.

  • Secrets of Inventory Lab with Jeff Campbell

Selling on Amazon isn’t exactly the easiest thing to do. Every Amazon seller has definitely wanted to pull out their hair at some point. Luckily, there’s one of my favorite tools in the world: InventoryLab. It lifts so much of the stress and helps us focus on growing our Amazon business. And while Amazon’s seller support can be a nightmare, InventoryLab’s customer service is the total opposite. InventoryLab listens to its customers so much that, in fact, most of the software’s updates come from the customers, says Jeff Campbell, who acts as the Customer Engagement Coordinator at Inventory Lab.

And I know that’s true: I’ve made suggestions myself that turned into features in the program.

Jeff joins me today to share the hidden gems that make InventoryLab such a great software and service for Amazon businesses. He discusses how InventoryLab helps Amazon sellers focus on the profit-making tasks of their online businesses. He shares some exciting updates from the InventoryLab team and explains why they try to keep the software at a reasonable price. He also reveals the software’s biggest strength and underscores how the program’s most underused feature can help Amazon sellers grow their business.

“InventoryLab listens to customers and takes user suggestions seriously. We listen to everything customers say and take it to the developers directly.” - Jeff Campbell
