  • Top Bundle Questions answered: What you need to know NOW

From researching keywords and sourcing products to bundling and managing your finances, there is a lot to learn when it comes to running an Amazon business. This, in addition to the constant policy changes Amazon makes, can keep beginners in perpetual research mode and away from taking their first step. It’s definitely challenging for everyone to scale their online stores, but once you lock in a process that’s right for you, the sky is the limit for how many successful bundles that you can create.

In this episode, I answer some of the most frequently asked questions about starting an Amazon business. I share some of the best tools for product and keyword researching and discuss some of the steps involved in the keyword research process. I discuss branding matters, explain changes to GTIN exemption, and describe the newest changes on Amazon’s bundling policies. I also discuss how long it takes to get an Amazon bundle idea off the ground, from conceptualization to listing, and reveal what I think the future holds Amazon bundlers.

  • Fixing Amazon Error Codes

Getting error codes on Amazon isn’t something new. Receiving error notifications with listings is a regular occurrence, but with Amazon’s recent changes to their policies, error codes have been surging. While the company is making these changes to protect both their bottomline and Amazon customers, the drastic changes can feel stressful and confusing. But don’t pull your hair out just yet. While the solutions are not as fun and exciting as one might think, there are certainly steps you can take to fix these Amazon error codes and make your business thrive.

Today, I outline both short-term and long-term fixes to those dreaded error codes everyone keeps receiving on Amazon. I explain the Amazon error codes 5661, 5664, and 5665 and describe how they impact the way you list your bundles. I define and differentiate ‘brand registry’ from ‘brand approval’ and emphasize why you need to start pursuing brand registry for your Amazon business. I also discuss Amazon’s bundling policy and underscore the importance of having the willingness to do the hard work and creating a long-term sustainable Amazon business.

“Amazon has officially changed the rules, and the best way to fix these errors is to create your own bundle brand and custom packaging.” - Kristin Ostrander

  • Is Amazon a BULLY?

If you’ve been selling on Amazon for a while, it can feel like they’re trying to bully sellers into submission. Not only do they make drastic changes, they sometimes don’t even bother telling you beforehand. But don’t get discouraged: with over 80% of U.S. households joining Amazon Prime in 2020, it’s no doubt it’s still the best place to sell. You certainly don’t have to be afraid of big bad Amazon, either, as there are action points you can take to stand up to Amazon and hold them accountable for their policies.

In this episode, I discuss how you can proactively prevent Amazon from bullying you. I illustrate some drastic changes they have made on the Seller Central homepage and reveal why they’re making those changes. I advise how you can persistently file your cases and explain why you need to answer the polls and surveys Amazon offers. I also describe how hiring virtual assistants can help you manage the cases you file against Amazon and underscore why voicing your thoughts matters.

“No one’s going to fight for your business except you. If something violates policy, hold Amazon accountable as much as you can.” - Kristin Ostrander

This week on the Amazon Files:

    • Proactive steps you can take to prevent Amazon from bullying you
    • Why Amazon created drastic changes on the Seller Central homepage
    • The horrors of Amazon’s customer service and seller support

    • How holding Amazon accountable for their policies can help every seller
    • Receiving price alerts and why you shouldn’t hit the “update price” button
    • The importance of answering seller polls on Seller Central
    • The value of taking short surveys when Amazon responds to your case
    • Hiring and training virtual assistants as your Amazon business’s case managers

  • The S-Word

When was the last time someone used the dreaded s-word on you? Did they tell you that you should do or be something, whether you should be farther in your Amazon business or should be doing an Ecommerce business model that everybody’s doing? Who told you that you should? Chances are, if it’s not your mother-in-law, it’s you. And if it’s you, you may need to check why you’re “should-ing” yourself into doing something: because should can be as bad as can’t.

In this episode, I discuss the dangers of the word “should.” I describe how it can stem from the fear of being judged or embarrassed and how it can take us away from the things we want to actually do. I discuss the only times it’s okay to consider an s-word situation and reveal an alternative to doing a should. I also discuss the value of creating your “In a Perfect World” scenario and emphasize the importance of cultivating the beginner’s mindset.

“If you use the s-word, make sure you’re analyzing it all the way down to its core: that you “should” do something because it’ll get you to where you want to be.” - Kristin Ostrander

This week on the Amazon Files:

    • “Don’t you should me!” and the biggest problem with the word should
    • How should can come from a place of fear, guilt, or self-comparison
    • When is it okay to consider a should that someone tells you to do
    • The importance of thinking about our priorities instead of our shoulds
    • How crafting your ‘In a Perfect World’ scenario can help you avoid doing something out of guilt
    • Putting the “pro” in procrastination and what happened when I decided to stop being bad at something
    • The power of being humble enough to be a beginner
    • The value of getting better by challenging yourself

  • Lessons from a Football Coach

I thought it was going to be the best year when 2020 started. Everything was going great: I had a vacation with my family in Puerto Rico, my Amazon business was booming, and we had a remodeling in the house. Then, the pandemic hit - hard and fast. Like many people, I was impacted by the quarantine, the uncertainty, and the struggles of COVID-19. But someone inspired me out of my recent rut. Someone who, despite life’s challenges and physical limitations, strove to reach his dreams. That someone is high school football coach Rob Mendez.

In this episode, I share the story of coach Rob Mendez, how he aspired to become a football coach despite having the Tetra-amelia syndrome, and the four key lessons I learned from his life. I underscore the importance of refining your skills and capabilities to the best of your ability and illustrate how some of the words we use can limit us. I describe how Rob Mendez uses love as a tool to coach his team and why you need to commit to loving and honoring yourself. I also explain how having coaches and mentors can help you develop yourself and discuss how life’s challenges and hurdles can teach us to be better.

“The sign of a true champion is trusting your abilities and greatness without being complacent. Always seek to improve as a person and as a business owner.” - Kristin Ostrander

    • The story of Rob Mendez and his determination to become a football coach
    • Why “can’t” is a bad word in our house and how our minds handicap us the most.

    • The importance of running a team from the perspective of love
    • The impact of accountability and seeking support from other people
    • Waiting for happiness and why we shouldn’t hope for an instant solution to our problems

  • WARNING: This may Shock you

Sometimes, people get this impression that coaches, business leaders, and mentors are impervious to mistakes and always have it together. So, let me be a bit vulnerable here. From worrying about the future of Amazon due to Antitrust Laws to doubting the performance of my Amazon business because of the global pandemic, I struggle too, just like you. Still, I pick myself up and dust myself off. And whether you’re new to selling online or are an Ecommerce veteran, if you are struggling, I encourage you to join me and keep pressing on.

In this episode, I dispel the myth that business leaders don’t struggle and share some of the fears and challenges I face as an Amazon business owner and educator. I share some of the lessons I have learned over the years and discuss how we can face the biggest stumbling blocks in our lives. I also explain why you need to think about what you desire in life, the reason regret can be worse than failure, and underscore the importance of taking small, consistent steps.

Have you ever come across a product on Amazon that would have sold so much if it weren’t so terribly listed? Those listings are actually potential gold mines, according to e-Commerce Specialist Todd Welch. Todd - whom I call the Listing Whisperer - and his “Mine and Refine” method can help you scale your profit by locating bad Amazon listings, taking control of them, and revitalizing them to your advantage.
