Andrés Zúñiga es un cantante colombiano, intérprete e integrante de Rumba 7. Andrés llegó a Vancouver hace algunos años y nos cuenta sobre cómo, junto con miembros de su familia cuando formaban parte del grupo Aluvión, hicieron gira por Estados Unidos. Nos contó sobre su experiencia de presentarse en festivales de música en Bogotá y otros lugares de Colombia. También hablamos sobre sus inicios en la música y su desarrollo en la escena Latina en Vancouver.

Patrycia Arana Vela es originaria de Perú radicada en Vancouver. Es la directora de GPA Entertainment, Inc que producen conciertos Latinos y shows de Stand Up por todo Canadá. Nos platica sobre sus experiencias organizando conciertos y las dificultades que ha tenido que enfrentar con algunos artistas antes de la fecha de los shows o de subirse a los escenarios.  

Patrycia Arana Vela is originally from Peru based in Vancouver. She is the director of GPA Entertainment, Inc. that produce Latin concerts and Stand Up comedy shows across Canada. She talks to us about all the difficulties she has encountered with some artists right before they go on stage or before the date of the show.

Scott Verbeek is a Jazz guitar player who grew up un Winnipeg, Manitoba based in Vancouver. He talks to us about why he began playing guitar when he was 8 years old. He started playing Neil Young, later moved into rock, metal, until he decided to study jazz so, he moved to Boston and graduated from Berkley. We talked about 'mind reading' other musicians and having a conversation when playing, not needing visual cues, and developing your own sound. Scott shares to us that his biggest influence has been Ornette Coleman.

 He currently plays solo all around the city as well as with many bands.   Scott Verbeek es un guitarrista de jazz que creció en Winnipeg, Manitoba y radica en Vancouver. Nos cuenta por qué empezó tocando la guitarra a sus 8 años. Comenzó tocando música de Neil Young, después rock, metal, hasta que decidió estudiar jazz, así que se mudó a Boston y se graduó de Berkley. Hablamos sobre leer la mente de otros músicos y tener una conversación, no necesitar de pistas visuales y desarrollar un sonido propio. Scott nos comparte que su mayor influencia musical ha sido Ornette Coleman. Actualmente toca como solista por toda la ciudad así como en muchas bandas.

Alonso Benavente Fortes es un  baterista y guitarrista nacido en Lima, Perú y criado en Quito, Ecuador. Decidió mudarse a Vancouver para estudiar cine hace 10 años, le gustó y se quedó. Platicamos sobre muchos tipos de música que existen en Latinoamérica y cómo aprendió a tocar por su cuenta, aunque actualmente está estudiando música y le gustaría ser cineaste y compositor. Anteriormente era el baterista de Las Empanadas Ilegales.   

Alonso Benavente Fortes is a drummer and guitar player born in Lima, Perú and raised in Quito, Ecuador. He decided to move to Vancouver tu study cinematography 10 years ago, he liked it so, he stayed. We talked about the variety of music styles that exist in Latin America and how he learned to play by himself although he is currently studying music and he would like to be a cinematographer as well as a music composer. He was the former drummer for Las Empanadas Ilegales.

Paul Clark is a drummer from Chilliwack based in Vancouver that plays for numerous bands in the city. He gained an interest in music because of his grandfather. He talks to us about how his grandfather started a band in the 40's to provide the town with some entertainment. Paul also talks to us about the story of how the foundation GroundUp came to be and why they donate to the east-side Vancouver, as well as, what it's like to play for many musicians of different genres, and booking artists for Guilt & Co. He is currently a drummer for bands or R&B and jazz-fusion.   

Paul Clark es un baterista de Chilliwack radicado en Vancouver que toca para diversas bandas en la ciudad. Empezó a ganar interés en la música por su abuelo. Nos cuenta sobre cómo su abuelo empezó una banda en los 40's para proveer al pueblo con algún tipo de entretenimiento. Paul también nos cuenta la historia de cómo empezó la fundación GroundUp y el porqué donan al East-Side de Vancouver, así como lo que es tocar para muchos artistas de diferentes estilos musicales y agendar a músicos para Guilt & Co. Actualmente, es baterista para varias bandas de R&B y jazz-fusion.

Rubén Sandoval, de padres Salvadoreños, nació en Kitchener, Ontario y a partir de sus 10 años de edad vive en Vancouver. Desde que estaba chico, su padre tocaba el bajo y pertenecía a una banda en Toronto. Su padre guardaba varios instrumentos en su sótano, por lo que desde temprana edad se sintió atraído por la música, en especial por la batería. Nos cuenta que cuando tenía seis años, sus padres decidieron mudarse a Quebec y lo alentaron para tocar la batería en la Iglesia. Después, aprendió a tocar el piano y el bajo. Rubén también estudió para ser ingeniero de sonido y hoy en día toca el teclado en Rumba 7. 

Rubén Sandoval, from Salvadorian parents, was born in Kitchener, Ontario and has been living in Vancouver since the age of 10. When he was growing up, his father played the bass and was part of a band in Toronto. His father had various instruments in their basement, which made Ruben feel drawn to music from a very young age. He talks to us about how when he was 6 years old, his parents decided to move to Quebec and encouraged him to play the drums in church. He then learned how to play the piano and the bass. Rubén also studied to be a sound engineer and is currently playing the keyboard for Rumba 7.

Kitt is an indie-soul singer songwriter based in Vancouver, she also is a photographer, videographer and co-founder of Sandstone Studios. While growing up in a farm, her Dad made documentaries about the farm life which is where she learned from a young age some of the camera skills she has perfected with time until today. She also talked to us about how she entered a song contest while in school and won 25 grand to record an album, writing about depression, love, and self love. Kitt has released more than 4 albums and various singles which you can listen to on Spotify.  

Kitt es una cantante y compositora de indie y soul que radica en Vancouver, también es fotógrafa, videógrafa  y co-fundadora de Sandstone Studios. Pasó su infancia en una granja y mientras su padre hacía documentales sobre la vida en el campo, ella aprendió a una edad temprana la destreza detrás de la cámara que ha ido perfeccionando con el tiempo hasta hoy. También nos contó sobre la vez que entró a un concurso de canciones cuando estudiaba y ganó 25 mil dólares para poder grabar un álbum, escribir sobre depresión, amor y amor propio. Kitt ha lanzado más de 4 albums y diversos sencillos que puedes escuchar en Spotify.

José Montilla nació y creció en Venezuela y se mudó a sus 20 años a Vancouver en el 2005.  José nos cuenta que cuando tenia 15 años hizo una gira y tocó en las cárceles de Venezuela con un grupo de Pop al que pertenecía. Él empezó tocando la flauta en la Estudiantina de su escuela y siempre había cantado para su familia. Alrededor del 2010 fue cuando tomó la decisión de aprender a tocar el cuatro y empezó a tocar música folklórica, trova y raíces Latinas. José actualmente es tecladista y cantante de Salsa, Cumbia, Merengue y Bachata con los Sonora Kings.   

José Montilla was born and raised in Venezuela and moved to Vancouver in 2005 when he was 20 years old. José talks to us about how he toured through prisons in Venezuela, when he was 15 with a pop band that he was part of. He started playing the flute in the school band and he always sang for his family. Around 2010 he made the decision to learn how to play the cuatro and he started to play latin roots music. José is currently a pianist  and singer of Salsa, Cumbia, Merengue and Bachata with the Sonora Kings.

Kate Yahn is a singer songwriter based in Vancouver. She studied and trained in theatre but always wanted to set foot in the musical scene. She was considering being a park ranger, a teacher or going into a music program. Kate then went to New York for six months to pursue musical theatre and came back. She has recorded a 3 song cover EP that is currently on Spotify and will be releasing a new original song and video in March 2023. She is inspired by a wide range of singers from Linda Ronstadt from the late 60's all the way to Taylor Swift and Lady Gaga.   

Kate Yahn es una cantautora residiendo en Vancouver. Estudió teatro pero siempre quiso adentrarse a la escena musical. Inicialmente consideró ser guardabosque, maestra o entra a un programa de música. Kate se mudó por 6 meses a Nueva York a perseguir el teatro musical y regresó. Grabó un EP de 3 covers que está en Spotify y estará lanzando un sencillo original y video en Marzo 2023. Se inspira de un abanico amplio de cantantes desde Linda Ronstadt de finales de los 60's hasta Taylor Swift y Lady Gaga.

Tita Galindo es originaria de Mazatlán, México. Empezó cantando opera y por diversas razones dejó de cantar y de pensar en seguir en la música, por lo que estudió Arquitectura. Se mudó a Vancouver en 2018 y hace 3 años que canta con Orquesta Tabasko. Su repertorio se ha expandido y crecido desde entonces. Tita interpreta canciones de salsa, merengue y cumbia.   

Tita Galindo is originally from Mazatlán, México. She started singing opera and for different reasons she stopped singing and thinking about living from music, so she studied architecture. She moved to Vancouver in 2018 and 3 years ago, she started singing with Orquesta Tabasko. Her repertoire has grown ever since. Tita sings salsa, merengue and cumbia.
