Born in Vancouver and raised all across Canada, Ian Cromwell has one true home: the stage. A classical violinist by training, Ian has spent more than 20 years performing with classical ensembles, symphonies, quartets, and as a solo performer. Ian’s love of the stage put a guitar in his hands some years later, and he hasn’t looked back since. Over the past 8 years, Ian has been regularly rocking stages in Vancouver and beyond both as a solo artist, and as a member of Jack Mercer & The Whiskey Bandits. Ian is also the curator and host of Locals Lounge, a monthly performance and interview series focussed on Vancouver’s local music scene.

Alvin Brendan has been quickly crafting a strong identity for himself as a Jazz musician in Vancouver. Despite his youth, he has been fortunate enough to land many performance and recording opportunities with Vancouver’s best. Alvin attributes his cool and sophisticated sound to his learning from his local heroes Bill Coon and Ron Samworth, as well as having the opportunity to learn from internationally acclaimed legends Peter Bernstein and Lorne Lofsky. In combining his love for early Jazz/Swing music with his contemporary influences, Alvin always aims to create a statement that adheres to a rich musical tradition whilst being exciting and fresh. Alvin was the recipient of the 2020 ‘Rising Star Jazz Musician Award’ by the Fort Langley Jazz & Arts Festival.

John Welsh y Los Valientes comenzaron con la creencia que la música tiene el poder de unir a las personas de todas las culturas, idiomas y edades. Cantando en inglés y español, la banda se compone de músicos canadienses y colombianos tocando una mezcla de música latina, canadiense y reggae. De Vancouver, Canadá, John Welsh & Los Valientes Son conocidos por su música vibrante y alegre con diversas influencias de artistas como Manu Chao, Bob Marley y Harry Belafonte. John Welsh, hijo de inmigrantes ingleses en Canadá, creció en un ambiente multicultural y fué influenciado por música de todas partes del mundo. Vancouver soul dynamo Dawn Pemberton has a deep musical foundation rooted in tradition. Dawn spent her formative years surrounded by a family of multi-instrumentalists and developed a true love of music as a young girl. In addition to regularly collaborating on the projects of her peers and having an educated background in jazz voice and piano, Dawn is a talented and passionate songwriter in her own right. A staple of the West Coast music scene, Dawn can be found tearing it up as a vocalist, arranger, and go-to for live performances and studio sessions.El alma del soul de Vancouver, Dawn Pemberton, tiene una profunda base musical arraigada en la tradición.

Dawn pasó sus años de formación rodeada de una familia de multi instrumentistas y desarrolló un verdadero amor por la música cuando era niña. Además de colaborar regularmente en los proyectos de sus compañeros y tener una formación en voz y piano de jazz, Dawn es una compositora talentosa y apasionada por derecho propio. Eder Lobo es un cantautor y guitarrista mexicano que radica en Vancouver. Eder comenzó en la música cuando estaba en la preparatoria y nos cuenta que desde pequeño creció escuchando boleros, baladas y música folklórica latina. También nos contó sobre los retos que se enfrentó al grabar su segundo álbum durante covid a distancia y tener a colaboradores en su álbum músicos de Prince y Madonna. Eder está por lanzar su segundo álbum y puedes escuchar su música en Spotify y conocer sobre sus presentaciones en sus redes sociales.

Eder Lobo is a Mexican singer, songwriter, and guitar player currently based in Vancouver. Eder started in music when he got in High School and he talks to us about how he grew up listening to boleros, ballads, and folkloric latin music. He also talked to us about the challenges he faced while recording his second album during covid at a distance and having musicians of Prince and Madonna as collaborators in his album. Eder is about to launch his second album and you can listen to his music on Spotify and learn more about his upcoming shows through his social media.

Kärma Sounds (Karina Morin) is a singer and songwriter from Montreal based in Vancouver. Karma talked to us about her beginnings in music since she was a toddler. Her dad is a musician and noticed in her from a very early age that she had a good voice. She was shy and slowly was pushed into music stages, whether it was a friend that convinced her to go an a music contest in school or a teacher that taught her how to show confidence on stage. She also talked to us about how she worked through the shyness by using techniques from theater school to be in total control on stage when singing, going on Canadian Idol, being in an all girl band and touring through Europe. Karma is currently the vocalist for Coco Jafro and you can see her sing all around the city.

Kärma Sounds (Karina Morin) es una cantautora de Montreal radicada en Vancouver. Karma nos platicó sobre sus inicios en la música desde pequeña. Su padre es músico y notó en su hija que tenía una buena voz desde una temprana edad. Ella era muy tímida y fue impulsada lentamente a escenarios musicales, ya sea que haya sido por una amiga que la convenció entrar en un concurso de música en la escuela o algún maestro que le enseñó cómo mostrar seguridad sobre el escenario. Nos platicó cómo lidió con la timidez usando técnicas de teatro y estar en total control sobre el escenario al cantar, participar en Canadian Idol, estar en una banda de chicas e ir de gira por Europa. Karma es la actual cantante de Coco Jafro y puedes verla cantar en muchos lugares de la ciudad.

Dino Dinicolo is a Canadian bass player singer and songwriter based in Vancouver. He chatted with us about how he started playing the organ and hated it. During high school he chose to study and play guitar and didn’t really think about music as a career until he realized he loved it and he was good at it. He also talked to us about people unintentionally listening to his CD and later seeing him perform live without having planned it. Dino Dinicolo es un bajista y cantautor canadiense basado en Vancouver. Nos platicó sobre cómo empezó a tocar el órgano y lo detestó. Durante la preparatoria decidió estudiar y tocar la guitarra sin pensar en dedicarse a la música hasta llegó a la realización de que era bueno y le gustaba. Gabriel Medina es un cinematógrafo y empresario en el ámbito del cine quien ha producido videos musicales y trabajado con grandes celebridades como los Black Eyed Peas y Nickelback. Gabriel nos cuenta cómo empezó su camino desde México y venir a Canadá. Hablamos sobre cómo fue abriéndose paso en la industria del cine y la música produciendo videos musicales. Gabriel actualmente es el dueño de Red Eye Motion Pictures, una empresa que ha colaborado en grandes producciones del cine.

Susana Williams is a singer songwriter, keys and guitar player. She was born in Caracas, Venezuela and moved to Vancouver in the late 90's. She had started her musical career in Venezuela and worked with great South American musicians until there was a major political shift and she decided to come to Canada. She talked to us about her discouragements and disappointments in music, as well as her first experience singing with a full professional musical band when she was 13. She also talked to us about her need to create as much as she could since the pandemic, making music for film and television, releasing a new album, and singing with Rumba Calzada and other bands.
