Across the EP, Spice moves through synth-led Deep House, subtle acid lines, Balearic touches and dubby atmosphere. The opening pair, “Midsummer Sunrise” and “Heatwaves,” sit closer to peak-groover territory, while “Acid House in the Countryside” and “Midsummer Sunset” hit a more reflective, late-day zone with their unique vibe.

Rather than aiming for straight nostalgia, the record filters late ’80s and early ’90s acid house influences through a cleaner, modern production style. There are hints of Balearic looseness throughout, with the EP’s summer theme tying together its brighter club moments.

Except their is nothing Flat about this beat. While Cowboys Are Consistent moves with a more sideways, deeper and more unhurried territory.

The remixes stretch the material without losing its charm. Variable Self twists Alien Squat into a stranger, more elastic-dub shape while Slow Assembly takes Cowboys Are Consistent into a territory with a touch of the Big Beat about it. The result feels like a forgotten late-’90s Ninja Tune twelve-inch pulled from a dusty bag with all the strange, groovy and quietly addictive quality you would expect.
