Straight from the depths of the Italian scene, A-Tweed and Oltrefuturo have materialized Morphism, a collaboration that makes its place as the fifteenth release under Fauna Reve’s main collection. Both artists have paved their way through some international electronic music labels such as Duro Label, Veneno, I Low You and Logical Records, with them also recently working together in the track “Neptune Lullaby” for whypeopledance’s compilation 'WhyPeopleWar - Fundraiser for Ukraine vol.1 & vol.2'.

A journey through some of electronic’s most intriguing passages and endeavors, full of hypnotizing cosmic paraphernalia, Morphism lifts off with “Axis Tilt Winter”, an opener track which perfectly settles the album’s whole atmosphere: dark, mysterious rhythms meeting with synthesizers of a glowing, metallic shine. “Beta Morphism” carves deep into the mind with its powerful percussions and sharp edge synths, while “Taipanic Bite” makes its way with a glowing and scheming exploration of depth and bass.

The trip nears the end with the powerful, percussion-driven “Treeball Alpaka”, a track that sculpts a tight passageway of metallic, futuristic sounds and haunting voices with a sense of menace, and finally settles down with an upbeat, lively remix of this last track, like the enactment of a last-minute escape at the speed of light, out of the mind and hands of Coast2Mago, one of Mexican DJ Theus Mago’s many monikers now with modular producer, coast2c.

Morphism, a work of A-Tweed & Oltrefuturo, and Fauna Reve’s newest release, is a piece that takes glowing movements out of the darkest corners of the night, and won’t pass undetected by connoisseurs of these phenomena. apaull, a dutch-canadian electronic music producer, has released the Sans Phobia EP, his third release of 2022. It is executive produced by Abe Duque and is on the furnace room records label.

This EP takes a heavier turn that portends the cold and dark winter ahead. We find ourselves beset by turmoil everywhere we look. Some of it is real. Much is manufactured.

Around every corner lurks a crisis that tells you to cede a little more of what you control.

It is a slow drip, imperceptible to the naked eye, of a naked power grab by the people we elect and buy things from.

Sans Phobia (original mix) is littered with disembodied voices struggling to get out of the various rhetorical and physical prisons they find themselves in. These prisons, by design and literally, put regular people in their place in an evolving new world order that justifies their actions by saying “its all your fault”. “Why did you hurt them?” is their cry in reply, as they squirm to find and redefine their current standing.

Sans Phobia (Maedon remix)

Berlin based Maedon hammers home the point of the original mix with her unique hybrid of industrial techno and prickly splash of rave. You feel the sharp gloom of what Skinny Puppy long ago called “Smothered Hope”, with no reasonable expectation that this will

change any time soon. You are left relentlessly pounding on the door, with no obvious way out of your new human condition, when it dawns on you that there is no actual door.

Not a Victim paints a dystopian world where the fresh coat of grey paint has not yet dried, still running down the walls of a fragile gingerbread house. Despite this there is hope and opportunity. It points to an uprising, where people see themselves “not as victims” but as honorable people that “lived up to their pledge to defend democracy”.

The Jazz-o-Tech label serves up a second volume of „This is Techno Jazz“ which again lays out a clear sonic statement.

This double album is a deep dive into the label‘s carefully nurtured sound with music from artists all over Europe.

What unites this label and its broad array of artists is a desire to fuse the traditional improvisation of jazz with the avant-garde experimentalism of techno. Over the last couple of years, it has done that to critical acclaim with a series of innovative EPs and LPs from artists all over Europe. Some are studio wizards, some are jazz trained musicians, all are cooking up fresh new sounds that push the boundaries of electronic and acoustic music further than ever.

This collection once again proves that jazz and techno belong together as it takes you on a roller coaster ride through many fascinating fusions. Jazz-O-Tech is a label that draws on the rich heritage of two of the most visionary and experimental genes in mu- sic: jazz and techno. Taking inspiration from the free form creative nature of those two musical worlds, artists on the label mix tradition with modernity, improvisation wit h experimentation, and create a new sound known as techno - jazz. Modern music needs to be ambitious. It must aim to deliver a musical message which is one step beyond what has already been heard. It must take you on a new musical journey into unknown dimensions and emotions. That is the Jazz-o-Tech mission.
