In this episode of My Empower Project, we learn that everything goes back to mindset and why restriction diets do not work.  We should look at all the things we CAN eat instead of all the things we cannot eat.  In order to do this we need to know our baseline.  Erin inspires others to do this by writing down everything she eats.  She explains in order to know where you stand, you must compare how you feel now to when your diet does change. 

Later we discover what vital thing to do when cutting carbs and we learn how journaling can help us notice things.

“We need to aspire to move better, not just move more.”

In this episode, Erin talks to Luke DePron about working with clients with injuries, how sitting all day can impact your body, and why you should invest in a stand-up desk. Erin reveals the irony as she has a stand-up desk saved to her Amazon cart and Luke suggests investing in the most helpful desk you can buy because sitting is mechanically wrecking your body. Also, Luke suggests a beginner should practice strength training three times a week, with workouts lasting no longer than 45 minutes. Then, Erin and Luke discuss what to do when your fitness goals reach a plateau & taking inventory on your health. In this episode, Erin opens up the show talking to Holly Perkins about celebrity fitness and tracking macros. Holly reveals how she is really into following macros because otherwise she would not know what her clients are consuming. She touches on how bringing mindfulness to your diet will result in your desired income; and how you cannot reach goals without knowing what the problems are, otherwise you are just throwing darts without having a target. Today, Erin reminds you that any label that you put on yourself doesn't need to be forever. It’s possible to have a goal or commitment without labeling it.

She touches on how saying you’ll ‘try’ is reinforcing your own limiting beliefs!

Erin shares that labels usually define actions, and not you. It can be detrimental to put emphasis on a label since it is only one part of you, and one thing doesn’t define you.

Today on My Empower Project we are discussing gut health and mindset.  I am interviewing Caryn Nicole and hope you will tune in!  Caryn Nicole is an IFBB Pro (International Federation of Bodybuilding and Fitness) and was one of my coaches for my fitness competition training.  Caryn Nicole has been hugely successful with her app, Best Me!, as well as Her Fit Camp and her YouTube channel. 

As a fitness coach and digestive specialist, Caryn Nicole educates women on the importance of maintaining a healthy digestive balance.  Most of us aren’t even aware of gut health and the importance of healthy digestion, so let’s get into it! 

Caryn Nicole says that 80-90% of our serotonin receptors are found in our bellies.  When we are bloated, fatigued, or not able to lose weight, then gut health is likely out of balance.  Isn’t it fascinating that your digestive system can be affecting your mood, your thyroid, and chronic inflammation? 

What are some indicators of your gut being out of balance?  Listen in at 2:58 to hear Caryn Nicole describe warning signs of an unhealthy gut.

Caryn Nicole is also a huge proponent of mindset.  As a fitness coach, she doesn’t think you can reach your fitness goals without the correct mindset.  With her background in psychology, she understands the connection between wellness of the mind and the body.  Pay attention at 8:30 mins. to hear Caryn Nicole go into that further, as well as her holistic approach to a happy and healthy mindset. 

10:00 mins. into today’s episode I asked Caryn Nicole about her thoughts on bodybuilding and bikini competitions.  As you probably know, that stage holds a special place in my heart and I was so fortunate to have Caryn Nicole as my coach when I won 1st, 3rd, & 4th, as well as qualified for Nationals.

My favorite takeaway from this interview happens between 11:50 and 14:15 when Caryn Nicole talks about her transition from her career in psychology into becoming a fitness coach and switching paths to be truer to herself.  Hearing her experiences into entrepreneurship is really inspiring and I encourage you to listen to her story and advice if that is something you are possibly interested in. 

Overcoming fears, persevering and getting past imposter syndrome are all self-limiting beliefs that we fall victim to, according to Caryn Nicole.  If she can move past them, then I know we can to.  Thanks for listening!
