  • Wall talk stumbles, Brexit can kicked further
    Monday 11th February 2019
Talks at averting another US government shutdown ended in deadlock at the weekend. Phil Dobbie asks NAB’s Rodrigo Catril how that could play out in the markets in the early part of the week, after a relatively quiet end to last week. They also, reluctantly, talk about Brexit, as Theresa May kicks the can further down the road. Is it a cul de sac? And a wealth of data and Australian news this week, but will any of it help the beleaguered Aussie dollar?

  • A way to go - for growth and that trade deal
    Friday 8th February 2019
It’s a sea of red for shares this morning. Phil Dobbie asks NAB’s David de Garis how much of this is down Larry Kudlow’s comment that there’s a “pretty sizeable distance to go” before trade issues are resolved with China. It seems the clock is ticking with no immediate resolution for that, the pending government shutdown and Brexit. Meanwhile, the European Commission and the Bank of England have downgraded growth forecasts and the Kiwi dollar has been hit by an unexpected unemployment upturn. Feeling a bit gloomy after all that – think of the weekend!

  • Lowe sends Aussie lower; Markets unmoved by Trump
    Thursday 7th February 2019
Words from the RBA’s Governor Lowe send the Aussie dollar spiralling downward yesterday, with investors wondering whether the next move will be up or down. Phil Dobbie asked NAB’s Tapas Strickland what it would take for the RBA to consider a cut. The Canadian dollar also took a bit on the back of words from the central bank, whilst the Bank of England announce their rate decision today. There’s been little response from President Trump’s State of the Union Address or on Brexit, with another US government shutdown and another UK government vote looming.
