In the digital age, we cannot afford to live in a world where experts assert that only people with degrees deserve to be heard.
This is partially true because real leaders are also educators; and an uneducated population is a reflection of the communication flaws present in so many institutions. That is a conversation worth having.
It's also true because there are so many barriers to education in this country. The people in our country who have experienced the most harm and neglect are also the people most likely to fail and drop out or not pursue higher education. There are improvements that must be made; and that doesn't happen when you only listen to the people who are able to thrive within the system.
As human beings, our opinions don't matter because we have degrees or research (even though research and education are valuable). As human beings, our opinions matter because we deserve to be seen and understood and responded to and taken care of, regardless of whether or not we have a degree.
We can bring value to the world with our stories, perspectives, and art. There is no prerequisite for that.
Of course, it doesn't mean that our opinions are always right. It means that our opinions are a reflection of our understanding of the world; and *that* information *should* be used by professionals across industries in order to improve the (educational, political, and medical) systems that we rely on.
In a world where DEI and affirmative action are being stripped away, women need to have a value and belief system that is deeper than a diploma. You need to know that you are an important, significant woman who matters and belongs. You deserve to be seen and heard and taken care of in alignment with that.
