Naked Diner

Happy Memorial Day

Our guest Dylan Brody has been writing, acting, and living in the Entertainment industry since 1981. His new endeavor, “You are Here: A Dylan Brody Project” draws on his experiences in the industry as evidenced by the string of contacts he’s managed to make the film come together on a shoestring budget. Jack and Andy talk with Dylan about his early experiences doing stand-up at 17, to his writing career, to this new directorial project.

You can find more Dylan at his website: https://www.dylanbrody.com/, Twitter @dylanbrody, and over on his Facebook.

Original Show Notes:

Do I really have to tell our audience who Brian is? Doesn’t seem like I should. But Brian Dalton is the creator and star of the Mr. Deity, and just an all around swell guy.

This is a fun episode and I think, as as far as I’m aware, one of the few times Brian has talked about how Mr. Deity … happened. We do a pretty deep dive into his childhood and how the channel took off. The conversation goes into a lot of interesting places so we hope you enjoy it.

Also funny story from the cutting room floor: Just before we added Brian onto the skype call he shot me a message asking whether swearing was ‘allowed, prohibited, or just frowned upon’. For those of you following the show who know that we’re currently running our #swearjar campaign to raise money and awareness for livethroughthis.org you understand why he was delighted to hear my response ‘Not only is it allowed, it raises money for a good cause!’

So, of course the place to go to find more from Brian is MrDeity.com

Kaveh is a blogger at On the Margin of Error on Patheos. He is an ex-Muslim Atheist living in Tehran. This week Jack and Andy talk with Kaveh about America’s decision to pull out of the ‘Iranian Nuclear Deal’ U.N. Resolution and the potential and likely implications of this decision. We tend to agree it was a bad move if the overall goal of the U.S. is to foster non-theocratic, progressive voices in the region that are sympathetic to secular values.

I don’t normally say this but go ahead and share this one with your family or friend’s who you think might benefit from the perspective of someone on the ground over there and what the real effects of the U.S.’s new policies will have on the overall stability of the middle east.

This week’s blast from the past goes back to the Summer of 2016 to revisit one of our favorite thinky thinky episodes with guest Massimo Pigliucci.

Massimo Pigliucci is is Professor of Philosophy at CUNY-City College and former co-host of the Rationally Speaking podcast. Earlier in the summer I watch a video Massimo did on Stoicism and Dying with dignity that really got me thinking about death and mourning from a secular perspective, and after a summer of scheduling hiccups we were able to sit down and talk about Stoic philosophy, mortality, and the fast approaching Stoicon and Stoic Week.

If you want to find more from Massimo his websites HowtobeaStoic.org and platofootnote.org are generally brimming with philosophical goodness. Do check him out because he’s really done A LOT more than I can do justice in the short space I’ve got here.

Not the actor James Woods. James ran for Congress in Arizona’s 5th District a few years ago after a harrowing encounter with America’s healthcare system that left him completely blind and missing about 3 inches of his collarbone. His campaign achieved national prominence after an innovative sex education campaign and this impressive gun control video:

Jack and Andy talk with James about his path to candidacy, how to run a campaign on a shoestring budget, and what the path forward for progressive candidates should be.
