Had a super great time last Saturday at the “You’re a TEArrific Mom” event by the Proverbs 31.10 women of GCF Ortigas. Here is my talk on motherhood entitled “A SMother’s Love” which isn't just for biological moms, but also for adoptive and spiritual moms. I hope that even teachers, mentors and coaches will be able to pick up a nugget of encouragement or two from this message. Most of this episode was recorded LIVE so you will be hearing a lot of children, and noise in the background. I also requested the guests to help me welcome you, listeners. Thanks for being so cooperative, ladies. You are TEArrific indeed!
Thanks also to Liza Magtibay, the emcee of the afternoon, for such a sweet introduction. I am grateful that you benefited from the last episode “Helping Your Child Face Transitions”.
You can find the translations of the Filipino terms and phrases I used in this podcast here in my blog: English Translations of Filipino words in "A SMother's Love" (Part 1)
Also, here’s the link to the video of the ad I included in this episode of Lady’s Choice: Lady's Choice "Letter" Ad

Life is tough. Transitions can be haunting and daunting while turbulence after turbulence can happen around and inside us.
Changes are stressful no matter how you welcome them.
In this episode, I hope to answer questions like:
How do I help my kids face conflicts and crossroads?
How do I get to know my child more?
I am teaching my child, and training her, what else do I need to do?
Why am I having a hard time letting go of them?
“Helping Your Child Face Transitions”, an article I wrote for Family Wise Asia, is not just for parents. I pray that what I have to share in this piece will be helpful for all of us to understand and appreciate how we were raised and why we’ve turned out to be who we are now.

Oh no, oh no, how do I work from home, when the kids are home all day? Oh, no.
Ended homeschooling my youngest child last schoolyear, and picking up lessons from almost 2 decades of homeschooling my children, I came up with some tips. With cinematic timing, thunder claps when I mentioned “Set Playdates!” as a way to help our kids in their social development. So as the skies agreed with me on this one, I hope you will too someday, as you just give all the tips a try. Let me know how it goes?

Hey, Ho! How do we manage work from home? Especially now that the kids are on school break, it can be disastrous. For homeschoolers, it's a school-year round of keeping the kids happy while learning at home.
Here are some tips for those who are seriously considering homeschooling soon, but not limited to newbies! Even parents who have been at it for some time now, and those who don't homeschool will learn from these tips to maximize the learning environment at home. Posted this in preparation for school opening next month. But first, make sure you enjoy this vacay!

Season 2 begins! And the search has begun too.
June was fully-packed and clinched with Yakob’s 6th grade graduation. So for this episode, I get to see things from my 11yo’s perspective on readiness for high school, parting with some friends, handling the pressure of performing just like how siblings did in school.
Many times during the last season of mine, I found myself adjusting to several new things: saying goodbye to homeschooling, and hello to mainstream school; bidding online classes goodbye, and seeing your children adjust so well to face-to-face classes. I look forward to this new season. As a starter, I hope through this episode, parents get a glimpse of why kids are so enamored by internet games, and gaming podcasts, and why they want to become YouTubers someday. I am not a fan of such preoccupations but I decided to just listen, search, and understand.

Speedrun? Minecraft? Roblox? Mr. Beast? Heavens to Betsy! I learned a lot from my 11yo Yakob in this episode. There's also this sadness and pressure he was going through which we got to talk about and process as we conversed. Bonus inside: a list of Yakob's recommended family-friendly YouTube Content Creators to help prevent parents' paranoia because really, there's just so much danger waiting to devour our kids in the internet.
Some acknowledgments: Alicia Keys for the song "Good Job", and Dr. Kent Keith for the poem "Anyway" (posting it here: https://nanaysnotes.blogspot.com/)
If you would like a copy of Yakob's "The Search for an Heir" poem, write me at [email protected]. Would be happy to send it to you.

Who was your favorite teacher? Who is for you the greatest teacher ever? My 3rd child Miro, who turns 14 today, freshly done with her freshman year in high school shares the podcast mic with me in this episode. I learned about what is most relevant now to teens her age: mental health, burn out, empathy, sleep. The value of listening, and being listened to.

Miro, my third child, turns 14 years old today, and together with street sounds, phone rings, humming of the A/C, and creaking of the chair, she shares with us the value of learning to pause, to inhale, and necessary dead air to help process our thoughts and feelings. Parents just might pick up a tip or two on how children in their early teens think and speak, and what they need, and what makes them feel loved.
She also shares her experience as a voice talent, and here are the links to the ads we talked about in this episode:
Recorded since last year https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zUVg46FUarc&list=PLiAtComfIuZxxG4sN-OUnxIJeB5_KDvQc&index=1
Recorded when Miro was 8yo https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tpozvJRNSi0
We also talked a little about the book "The Five Love Languages of Children" by Gary Chapman and Ross Campbell.
Thank you to Miro's friends (Adee! You're the sweetest!) for agreeing to be part of this podcast. God bless you!

What do you appreciate most about your father? I remember Papa was hard to wake up to take us to school, and he would drive ever so slowly (eh late ka na!), but after having carpooling our kids (and other kids) to early classes and call times, I have learned to appreciate his getting up early. I think it's hard to be a dad. Maybe even harder than being a mom! I wouldn't know except for doing some daddy duties when Tatay can't be around. And they're mostly challenging for me. Like cooking, carrying heavy stuff, holding my child at the hospital for tests or ER procedures.
Here is a preview of Episode 11 "There You Are!". I'm glad Tatay is there for us. Super glad our Heavenly Father is, when Tatay can't be around.
