  • Beauty and the Beasts: Why Terrorists Target History
Terrorist groups target cultural heritage, from the Taliban destroying the Bamyan Buddhas to the Daesh wrecking Palmyra. But why? This documentary looks at how terrorist groups use cultural heritage for control – but also for funding.
Taking in interviews ranging from the head of UNESCO through to an Afghan smuggler, this documentary looks at the trail of destruction left by terrorist groups in our cultural heritage. It investigates how they both ban it but yet use it to fund their activities. It talks to those who are part of the problem, like smugglers, but also looks at the best methods to stop terrorist groups from profiting from this trade.
