Hello! It's me again for another solo-cast where I explore the topic of trauma informed care.
I've luckily had quite a few guests who operate through this lens and I realized that I haven't ever really addressed what that means or the various issues that can come from it. As always, there is so much more nuance to this topic than I can address in a single episode and I'm sure I have missed many elements of this work.
Books that I mention: Why Zebras Don't Get Ulcers by Robert Sapolsky, anything by Peter Levine. Other good books: Healing Trauma Through Yoga, The Polyvagal Theory, Lifting Heavy Healing Trauma One Rep at a Time by Laura Khoudari
Also known as Stevie Rock or Stevie Rock Fitness, Stevie is rocking the boat all the way in California and virtually as a weight neutral and inclusive personal trainer.
She specifically serves the LGBTQ+ community by helping "girls gays and theys escape diet culture and get unstoppably strong" through online and in person training. She is a weightlifter who uses all modalities of strength and fitness to prove to people that they are stronger than they think!
We talked about staying organized as a self-employed person, challenges of online training, imposter syndrome, social media, and how everyone can make their fitness space more welcoming and inclusive.
As mentioned in the episode, more diversity, equity, & inclusion resources from @tee_smilesss/Taryn Pascal

Kay owns I Am Magick, a storefront and personal brand located in Buffalo, NY that focuses on sustainably sourced crystals, ritual tools, and tarot. While one might think that wellness and spirituality are different realms, there truly is so much crossover.
If you're skeptical, I invite you to listen to Kay speak as she puts into words what many of us who are struggling with a religious upbringing have- finding a personal practice with yourself and unpacking the dissonance with religion.
We discuss incorporating ritual into the daily routine, how we choose the stones we work with, and how magic and art intersect. You'll also find some practical tips for connecting with your best spiritual self and avoiding toxic mindsets common in the spiritual and wellness community.

Today I got to talk to Rhiannon Needham, who is a Full Spectrum Doula.
I'll be honest, I had no idea what a doula does, or how they can fit into a pregnant person's care team. Many people in my life are starting their journeys towards parenthood, so I was curious to learn more.
We discuss what role a doula can play through the full spectrum of life, from IVF to end of life care, and what it means to be trauma centered as a doula. Rhiannon shares how doula care is perceived in the medical field, as well as how it can become more accessible to all people who need it. I learned so much through this interview and I hope you do too!
Join us as we take a deep dive into the process of becoming a health coach, and how that translates to working with clients in the fitness industry.
(I do apologize, something funky happened at the very beginning of the episode with my audio and I lost a tiny clip which I couldn't recover. )
