The Way, the Truth, and the Life – Jesus declared in John 14, “I am the way, the truth, and the life.” He doesn’t just show us the way, tell us the truth, and offer us life, HE IS the way, the truth, and the life. Through a relationship with Him, we can find our way, discover the truth, and live the ultimate life. We lean into Him and all is well.

Jesus, the Light of the World – Light. When you’re standing in the dark, your eyes naturally seek light; your mind and heart long for light. Light gives clarity to what’s around us, and that clarity offers confidence that we’re secure…headed in the right direction. Jesus said, “I am the light of the world.” By His light, we see everything else more clearly.

I am the True Vine – In John chapter 5, Jesus called Himself the “True Vine.” He said if we aren’t connected to Him, like a branch is connected to the vine or to the trunk, then we will lack the power to do anything of significance whatsoever. When we are connected to Him—we’re in a meaningful relationship with Him—there’s no telling what He might do through us.

Jesus, the Good Shepherd – In the New Testament, Jesus made a series of “I Am” statements declaring both Who He is, and why it matters. We begin with Jesus, the Good Shepherd. As we learn about this facet of His character, we learn plenty about ourselves in the process.

Listening to God…beyond reading Scripture – We’ve spent weeks talking about how to pray. But is prayer only a one-sided conversation? Or is it a dialogue? What if God is speaking, but we’re not listening? We’ll talk more today about how He speaks, and how we can listen better.

Listening to God through His Word – Prayer is more than just talking. Join Discipleship Minister Marc Mobley as he begins a discussion on how we listen to God. Because God speaks through His Word, how we can listen more carefully?

Gratitude – Gratitude is a profound element of prayer, and yet is often one of the most overlooked. The Lord’s Prayer reminds us that the Kingdom, the Power, and the Glory of God are at work in this world, and in our lives. We need to focus our minds on our blessings, and then celebrate the Lord who gives them to us.

Intercession – Jesus taught us to pray for each other, not only for ourselves. It’s not just “MY Father in heaven,” but “OUR Father.” It’s not, “Give ME today MY daily bread,” but “Give US today OUR daily bread.” Prayer involves intercession on behalf of others. “Lead US not into temptation, but deliver US from evil.” We ask God for guidance and protection–for ourselves–and for the rest of the world.

Repentance – “Forgive us our debts AS we forgive our debtors.” In this part of the Lord’s Prayer, we are asking God to treat us the way we treat other people. We repent when we pray, asking for the same grace from God that we must be willing to grant. Part of being forgiven is being forgiving.
