Nerds From the Crypt

Lyndon White joins us to talk about the 2011 psychological thriller drama, "We Need to Talk About Kevin". The screenplay was written by Ramsay and Rory Stewart Kinner, based on the novel of the same name. The movie stars Tilda Swinton, John C. Riley, and Ezra Miller.

"Eva Khatchadourian is a travel writer/publisher who gives up her beloved freedom and bohemian lifestyle to have a child with her husband, Franklin. Pregnancy does not seem to agree with Eva, but what's worse, when she does give birth to a baby boy named Kevin, she can't seem to bond with him. When Kevin grows from a fussy, demanding toddler into a sociopathic teen, Eva is forced to deal with the aftermath of her son's horrific act."

The artwork used for our episode cover and seen above we created by Jackson Ellis. I found this while creating the episode artwork and really thought it was better than the official movie poster. You can find these and other illustrations by Jackson Ellis by heading over to https://www.jellistrations.com/ or to his Instagram.

We are back with another set of creator interviews. First, we speak Kevin Garcia and Emmanuel Valtierra about their ongoing Kickstarter campaign for "Teoatl". You can follow the Kickstarter page by following the link: http://kck.st/2ZzaU5r.

"The story of "Teoatl" is the story of Mexico. The people popularly known as Aztecs called themselves Mexica, and while the story of their fall has been told and retold at least 400 times, the story of their rise - the founding of the great city of Tenochtitlan - is one more people need to know. Schoolchildren might learn about the Aztecs leaving on a journey guided by the war god Huichtilopochtli, ending when they find an eagle holding a snake on a cactus growing from a stone - but a lot happened in leading up to that iconic moment.  And that’s the story we’re going to tell."

You can learn more about Kevin Garica at www.kevingarcia.com or www.monomythic.com.

You can check out Emmanuel Valtierra's work at www.emmanuelvaltierraillustrator.com or follow him on Instagram.

We also have an interview with Miles Greb, creator of "After the Goldrush".

"After the Gold Rush is a return to optimistic Science-Fiction. It follows Scout, the last scientist, as she returns to Earth to find it in a state of wilderness. She lands on her ancestral home of Earth and instead of the Star Trek-like utopia she was expecting...she encounters a lush and natural Earth. But in this new frontier, it appears Science has been traded away."

This week we welcome back Mike Shea (Miskatonic High) & D.W. Kann (Lovecraft P.I.) to talk about their 2 issue crossover event "Miskatonic High Meets Lovecraft P.I." We first talked with Mike Shea (episode 48) and D.W. Kann (episode 49) in May 2019 about their respective series. The art and tone of these series are so different, I would have never thought of these two worlds colliding. It's the crossover we didn't deserve, but definitely the crossover we needed.

The Kickstarter campaign launches on September 29, 2020. But you can click the following link to get a reminder once it launches: https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/1442861719/miskatonic-high-meets-lovecraft-pi-crossover-part-1-of-2.

Detective Ward Lovecraft finds out that capturing a cosmic monster is child's play compared to babysitting five modern teenagers.

"Serious Creatures" by Tony McMillen

We also talk to Tony McMillen about his graphic novel "Serious Creatures". "Serious Creatures" is a 200 page graphic novel about a teenage special fx artist growing up in the Hollywood movie industry of the 70s, 80s, and 90s. It collects the first six-issue arc: "Never Been to California". Tony also talks to us about the inspiration for this comic and his love of horror as a kid.

Follow the Kickstarter by clicking the following link: http://kck.st/2Zgmfr5.

It’s 1974, Bobby Feckle is fourteen years old and sneaking onto the set of some movie about a shark terrorizing a New England tourist town. The movie will change Hollywood and Bobby’s life.

Get a front-row seat to the rise and fall of an industry and an art form; all from the perspective of an adolescent iconoclast who helped shaped both before he was even old enough to shave.

You can follow Tony on Instagram and on his website.

"Toeatl" by Kevin Garcia & Emmanuel Valtierra

I wanted to highlight one more project that I found this past week. This is right down my alley, and I fell in love with the concept of it right away.

You can follow it on Kickstarter by clicking on the following link: http://kck.st/2ZzaU5r.

The story of Teoatl is the story of Mexico.

This is the story of the struggles, the prophecies, the faith, and the loves of Mexico’s founding fathers and mothers.

J. Gonzo joins me to talk about the trade paperback edition of "La Mano del Destino". It is currently running on Kickstarter for another 47 days as of the day of this post. "La Mano del Destino" will be collecting issues #1-6 and is going to include a translated Spanish version of the complete story along with the English Version in a Flipbook format (that way neither language seems like an addendum or afterthought to the other).

"La Mano del Destino," tells the tale of a once-champion Luchador – who, after being betrayed by his friends and unmasked in the ring, agrees to a Faustian bargain with a mysterious promoter. He gains a new power and the identity of La Mano del Destino in order to exact revenge upon his betrayers. Set in a swanky, 1960's Mexico where Lucha Libre is intrinsically woven into all aspects of society and are the most important events that happen within this world, this tale winds its way through the machinations and motivations of all types who inhabit this unique setting.

Midnight Highway is an 80's-inspired comic book series bout a teenage boy that inexplicably ends up on a mysterious road filled with supernatural terror. The further he travels down the highway, the more bizarre and twisted it becomes.
