What is a trigger warning? •☆• A trigger warning is something that is often used ~ in the trauma informed world ~ to indicate particularly sensitive content that may be "triggering" for some listeners ( a "trigger" meaning to have a trauma response or reaction from external stimulus or data) •☆• If I were given to "trigger warnings as a concept ~ I would offer one with this episode •☆• However I do not subscribe to the concept and here is why ~ first and foremost it is impossible to define what may trigger individual stored trauma and though there are common themes, of commonly understood traumatic events, that might seem reasonable to offer "trigger warnings" for ~ for me this is a form of limiting the nature of stored trauma in the body and what "trauma" actually means •☆• One persons intense trigger is another persons Sunday stroll •☆• A "trigger" can be as simple as a certain aroma •☆• And "trauma" (a biological event stored in the body in response to a traumatic event) can be as common as a visit to the dentist or a naturally conservative child growing up with parents focussed on alternative lifestyle •☆• Thus ~ I find that using "trigger warnings" for certain subjects actually indicates and perpetuates a misunderstanding of the intrinsic, deeply personal nature of trauma and traumatic events •☆• If any part of my story has you experiencing uncomfortable sensations ~ please, needs be, take a break •☆• Have a cool drink, stretch, be with your body sensations with tender regard •☆• In fact ~ take this as generalised life and nervous system regulation advice •☆• It is all about "titration" •☆• Which is learning to honour your own impulses, have clear boundaries and take this work ~ and life ~ in bite sized pieces •☆• Thus ~ increasing you palette, your capacity, for a wonder filled life •☆• My journey is my journey, shared with great vulnerability •☆• Your response is your journey •☆• Your response~ability is the very reason to begin to bring your conscious awareness to your own, precious, sacred nervous system journey ~ the one you have been on since your first breath ♡
